Gore. The Animation Geeks will appreciate the fact that over 200 puppets and sets were created for the film.

When Tim Burton originally conceived the idea for Frankenweenie he envisioned it as a full-length, stop-motion animated film. Due to budget constraints, he instead directed it as a live-action short, released in 1984. Frankenweenie follows in the footsteps of Tim Burton.s other stop-motion animated films Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas – both of which were nominated for Academy Awards®. The voice cast includes four actors who worked with Burton on previous films: Winona Ryder (.Beetlejuice, »

Filming Begins On Saving Mr. Banks – Stars Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson And Colin Farrell

19 September 2012 12:30 PM, PDT

Disney and Travers

Disney began production today on Saving Mr. Banks the account of Walt Disney.s twenty-year pursuit of the film rights to P.L. Travers. popular novel, Mary Poppins, and the testy partnership the upbeat filmmaker develops with the uptight author during the project.s pre-production in 1961.

Saving Mr. Banks will film entirely in the Los Angeles area, with key locations to include Disneyland in Anaheim and the Disney Studios in Burbank. Filming will conclude around Thanksgiving, 2012, with no specific 2013 release date yet set. I’d suspect an end-of-the-year bow for an awards season push. But who will this type of subject matter appeal to exactly? Unless your a fan of Mary Poppins and Walt Disney, it seems boring. They better jazz it up somehow. It reads like an old-peoples’ movie. An HBO showing may have been a better venue for Saving Mr. Banks. On the other hand it could be huge, »

Pink Ribbons, Inc. – The DVD Review

19 September 2012 8:52 AM, PDT

Pink Ribbons, Inc is out on DVD and I.m disappointed, they didn.t include a quote from my review on their packaging. .All the Debbie Downerism seems unnecessary. would have looked great above the stack of money wrapped in that ubiquitous pink ribbon. In my initial review of Pink Ribbons, Inc (read it Here) last Spring, I gave it 2 ½ stars, claiming it was well-made and a healthy debate, but I also called out its transparent attempt to portray the Susan G. Komen foundation.s raising of funds for the worthy cause of breast cancer  into something ugly and crooked. My take didn.t sit well with a certain angry type and in the review.s comments section I was called a .propaganda machine. and was even accused of being paid off by Komen. A slanderous charge! I would never take a bribe to slant my review from a non-profit (corporate bribes are another story! »

Wake In Fright – New Trailer for Lost Australian Horror Film from 1971

18 September 2012 9:11 PM, PDT

Wake In Fright is a terrifying horror film from 1971 starring Donald Pleasance and directed by Ted Kotcheff (First Blood, Weekend At Bernies, North Dallas Forty) . Never heard of it? You’ll be hearing a lot about it soon. Wake In Fright  opens theatrically in New York on October 5 at The Film Forum (NYC), October 19 at The Nuart (La) and will have a national release to follow in major cities after screening at Fantastic Fest 2012 next week (Drafthouse Films).  Wake In Fright was based on Kenneth Cook’s 1961 novel Wake in Fright. Gary Bond plays a naive young Australian teacher who is tragically unprepared for his new position in the outback. The community he has been sent to is populated almost exclusively by amoral, primitive toughs, more interested in slaughtering kangaroos and sexual carousing than in such niceties as education or propriety. The methodical shattering of Bond’s dearly held values »

Photography Starts On Director Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan

18 September 2012 1:34 PM, PDT

Photo credit: David Lee (c) 2012 Paramount Pictures. All Rights Reserved.

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions announced today that principal photography has begun on Jack Ryan, from Academy Award®-nominated director Kenneth Branagh, starring Chris Pine, Academy Award®-nominated Keira Knightley and Academy Award®-nominated Kevin Costner. Branagh has helmed films such as Thor, Frankenstein and Dead Again. He’s become a very astute director and I have no doubt he’ll do another fine job with this contemporary action thriller. I really am impressed that Branagh, in addition to directing the film, will take on the role of Russian oligarch Viktor Cherevin. Check out the movies I mentioned if you’ve never seen Branagh the actor. Presently he’s on PBS as “Kurt Wallander” in the Wallander series Sunday nights on PBS.

Cabin In The Woods – The Blu-Review

18 September 2012 8:26 AM, PDT

When five friends take a trip to a secluded cabin, they expected a weekend of fun. What they didn’t bargain for was a trip where they fight for their lives.

One of the best horror films I have seen in a long time, Cabin In The Woods stars Kristen Connolly (The Happening), Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers), Anna Hutchison (TV.s “Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior”), Fran Kranz (The Village), Jesse Williams (TV.s .Grey.s Anatomy.), Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) and Bradley Whitford (TV.s .The West Wing.) as they set off on their adventure into the unknown.

Check out the trailer here:

A rambunctious group of five college friends steal away for a weekend of debauchery in an isolated country cabin, only to be attacked by horrific supernatural creatures in a night of endless terror and bloodshed.
