Trouble With The Curve New Poster – In Theaters September 21

24 August 2012 1:08 PM, PDT

Check out the new poster for Trouble With The Curve. What’s everyone think? As a fan of sports-themed films, I really like the stature of the baseball park towering in the background of the poster. Add to it that the timing of the film’s release is perfect for the waning days of the 2012 Mlb regular season.

The drama stars Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman, Robert Patrick, Matthew Lillard, Scott Eastwood, Joe Massingill and will be in theaters September 21.

Gus Lobel (Clint Eastwood) has been one of the best scouts in baseball for decades, but, despite his efforts to hide it, age is starting to catch up with him. Nevertheless, Gus.who can tell a pitch just by the crack of the bat.refuses to be benched for what may be the final innings of his career. He may not have a choice. The front office »

Official Martin Scorsese Statement On Cecchi Gori Pictures Lawsuit

24 August 2012 11:38 AM, PDT

On Wednesday news broke that Oscar winning director Martin Scorsese was being sued by Cecchi Gori Pictures for allegedly choosing to direct another film, The Wolf Of Wall Street, over their movie, Silence. They claim that money was spent on the film with the assumption that Scorsese would helm it after he was finished with Hugo.

This morning we received this email from his public-relations firm to refute the lawsuit.

Here is the following statement from Martin Scorsese.s representatives:

“It is shocking to us that the lawyers for Cecchi Gori Pictures would file a suit pursuing such absurd claims considering the amicable working relationship existing between Martin Scorsese and the principals of Cecchi Gori Pictures. The claims asserted are completely contradicted by, inconsistent with, and contrary to the express terms of an agreement entered into by the parties last year.

Premium Rush – The Review

23 August 2012 10:59 PM, PDT

There is no shortage of gimmicky, cliche-driven films being made today to try to capture a youthful niche segment of the market, Step Up comes to mind. One could even classify Jason Statham as a star who has made his fame from such a specific gimmicky formula of action film, but we rarely fault him for that. Men love to watch him kick ass; women just love him. That brings me to an entirely different kind of young, new star… Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Is there nothing this talented, seemingly forever youthful actor can’t — or, shall I say won’t — do in film? No, not in the undignified sense, but this 31-year old phenom keeps surprising us. From his TV Days on 3Rd Rock From The Sun to the anti-romantic comedy with Zooey Deschanel, on to the jaw-dropping Hesher and fighting alongside The Dark Knight… Jgl (as I will refer to »

The Imposter – The Review

23 August 2012 10:26 PM, PDT

Review by Barbara Snitzer

That Je Ne Sais Quoi quality is like obscenity, only in the sense that while indefinable, you know it when you see it.

The new documentary The Imposter is certainly not obscene, but it is an imposition on one’s time.  It recounts a compelling story, employing re-enactment techniques that are surprisingly original and not an automatic turn-off, but the movie doesn’t shift into its promised high gear until the 75th of its 95 minutes. Pas bien.

It’s an interesting story:  A young French sociopath pretends to be a missing Texas teenager and surprisingly, most of all to the Frenchman himself, he gets away with it.  Having spent his entire life searching for love and a place to belong, he has found it.  Lacking formal schooling, I guess he was never told to be careful what you wish for.

Easy Money (2010) – The Review

23 August 2012 9:50 PM, PDT

Ah yes, the allure of film noir is so very addictive. Set-up saps, dangerous dames, crime bosses, goons with gats, they’ve been a part of American cinema since the 1940′s. One of the genre’s biggest fans is Martin Scorsese ( you could say he put his own spin on them starting with Mean Streets and Taxi Driver ). Well, Mr. S knows when it’s done well, that why he’s put his name ( as in “Martin Scorsese presents” ) on this Swedish import. Sweden? The land of dour relationship dramas? Well, it turns out that they can make a very engaging crime thriller. Particularly director Daniel Espinosa ( he’s already jumped across the pond to make the recent Denzel Washington spy caper Safe House ), who gives us the taut nail-biter Easy Money. And if you know your noir, you know there’s nothing easy about going after those elusive big bucks. »

Killer Joe – The Review

23 August 2012 9:31 PM, PDT

You will never look at fried chicken the same.

In the new William Friedkin film Killer Joe Matthew McConaughey plays a corrupt cop who has a bit of a side business… killing people. When Chris (Emile Hirsch), a 22-year-old drug dealer, has his stash stolen by his mother, he has to find a way to pay off the missing drugs or he is dead. Through hearsay, he finds “Killer Joe” and strikes up a deal to kill his mother for her life insurance. Unable to pay upfront, Chris’s sister Dottie (Juno Temple) is offered up as sexual collateral.

I can’t decide how to describe this. It’s almost too dark for a dark comedy, but it’s still really funny. Friedkin could not have picked a better ensemble cast to deliver this crazy story to audiences. “Killer Joe” is a complex character. Joe is a deranged man who needs to be in control. »

So, let’s take a look back at some of these fantastic men in action!

Stanley Tucci in The Hunger Games

Tucci brings color (literally… check out that hair!) to the eccentric character of Caesar Flickerman in The Hunger Games. Flickerman is the host of the games, as well as a show where he interviews the contenders. He seems sympathetic and encouraging to those about to fight for their lives, but he also does not seem to phased when they are killed during the games. Still, he helps the contestants out with their interviews, »
