Waiting for The Big B in Bloomsbury

Amitabh Bachchan, the legend of Bollywood, joined BBC Asian Network’s Tommy Sandhu in conversation on the 27th of January.  The veneue was Bloomsbury Theatre, London.

Walking down a cold London street en-route, my phone buzzed in my pocket. It was Bodrul reporting on the enormosity of the queue. Now, we British are famous for queues,  but this queue had stretched all the way down the street. What’s more, people were smiling and waiting excitedly to see their hero, to see their Babu Moshai, their Don, their Anthony Gonsalvez.

We caught up with some of the hard core fans amidst the queue  to find out more on their love for The big B:

He was the actor who we at lunch times would bunk schools  for the afternoon and sit down and watch Silsila for the entire afternoon! – Sonu, London

Been waiting in the queue since 1:30pm… to see Amitabh Bachchan. »

Hawaizaada Movie Review

As Indians we have always been proud of how our ancestors were way ahead of their times, giving the world some revolutionary concepts and inventions. So ‘Aryabhatta gave the world the number 0’ is often our trademark reply to India being called a backward and third world country in almost any movie. Taking this a bit further is Vibhu Puri’s Hawaizaada based on a theory that an Indian was the first to build an airplane before the Wright brothers did.

Marathi manoos Shivkar Talpade (Ayushman Khurana) is a disappointment to his father who has repeatedly failed fourth grade. His father finally has enough and throws him out when he is taken in by Shastri. Shastri (Mithun Chakraborty) is a scientist who is trying to decode the Vedas to find the answers to the making of numerous inventions which apparently our ancestors have hidden and makes Talpade his assistant. 30 January 2015 2:17 AM, PST

The stunning Jacqueline Fernandez will be seen in a double role in her upcoming movie Roy and the actress reveals that she had to work on her voice modulation for each role. Being a perfectionist, Director Vikramjit Singh decided to use sync sound in order to give the film its vintage feel.

She says, “Roy is a film with a lot of dialogues and since Vikramjit had decided on making it with sync sound, it became more difficult for me. My Hindi diction was the least of my problems; the biggest challenge was to get right separate ways of speaking for my characters — Ayesha (filmmaker) and Tia (art enthusiast). The two have starkly different ways of speaking because they aren’t twins.”

Roy is the story of a thief played by Ranbir Kapoor alongside actors Arjun Rampal who portrays a confident yet brazen director and Jacqueline Fernandez in a double role as Ayesha & Tia. »
