Dia Mirza’s thought provoking poem on World Earth Day

In honor of World Earth Day Dia Mirza has written a very thought provoking poem. We know present it to you in full.

Earth Day sounds a lot like Birthday

The man that thought of this name

Urged that Earth and Birth connote life

Nurturing and existence

A celebration of the only planet that provides.

His name was Dennis Hayes

He wanted all humans to embrace

The truth that we are all connected

That this place we call home

Must be protected.

He called upon each one of us to make this a matter

That united us.

A day marked to bring people together

No matter what caste, creed or colour.

“The largest secular holiday in the world”.

And why do we need this day, you may ask?

Because our home is threatened by devastating loss

A loss, of consciousness to such a degree

That climate is changing drastically.

“Raveena Shines In A Hardhitting Rape Revenge Saga” Subhash K Jha Reviews Maatr

21 April 2017 8:22 PM, PDT

Maatr

Starring Raveena Tandon, Madhur Mittal, Anurag Arora

Directed by Ashtar Sayed

A raucous raga on the aftermath of rape, much of Maatr unfolds in a stern humourless no-nonsense manner of a fact-finding newshound who won’t go into digressions—because the film’s heroine knows what one wrong turn can do– just to keep the audience’s perception lightened.Which is for the best, really. In India we can’t afford to laugh about rape the way the French could in the film Elle.

MaatrMaatr aims to do. It strips the act of rape of all its filmy glamour and titillating trappings to portray the agony of a woman who watches her minor daughter gangraped, after she is raped herself. The two are then dumped on the side of the Highway by the seven wayward sons of influential dads, nocturnal animals who belong in hell. Provided the over-crowded address »

“Noor Says So Much Without Seeming To Say Anything” – Subhash K Jha Review

21 April 2017 8:16 AM, PDT

Noor

Starring Sonakshi Sinha, Purab Kohli, Kannan Gill, M K Raina, Smita Tambe

Directed by Suhnil Sippy

Honestly, the conscience has become a huge liability in these times. As a journalist with a good three decades of experience I still have problem deciding where to draw the line between professionalism and ethics.

Though I couldn’t relate to her endless boozing and snoozing, Noor Roy Choudhary as played by Sonakshi Sinha , is someone I’ve known in passing. And that’s I would keep her if I met her. At a safe distance.

Noor is not one of the best films on journalistic ethics. It doesn’t do to the contemporary Mumbai media world what the Paul Newman-Sally Field starrer Absence Of Malice did 30 years ago. It pricks at the conscience in a rather undemanding way. Noor takes sly and slender satirical swipes at sensationalism in journalism, more »

Chris Pratt loves the Guardians Of The Galaxy Jhoom Jhoom video for India

21 April 2017 6:37 AM, PDT

Distinctive 80s music, abundant thrills, spectacular action, cheeky humor, never forget characters and once again, distinctive 80s music – that is the quintessentially gift from the Guardians Of The Galaxy. In a musical coup, hearts matched and feet sprung into disco moves when 80s Disco from India was injected into the awesome Guardians.

In the movie, music left behind in a walkman is Star Lord aka Peter Quill’s way to stay connected to the Earth, home and the mother he lost. His mother had left behind a curated Awesome Mix Vol 1 mixtape – for Peter which featured prominently in theGuardians Of The Galaxy. Aptly titled Awesome Mix Vol 2, again a mixtape of retro hits from the same era will be part of the Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2. What better, but to add to this a desi beat specially for India? “Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom Baba” the India Mash Up is a homage to the 80s music, »

Shritama Mukherjee enters ‘Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi’

21 April 2017 3:37 AM, PDT

The young, quirky and talented Shritama Mukherjee is known for her quality work and has made quite a mark for herself in the industry. Known for her vivacious role in Dekha Ek Khwab, this actress has bagged the role of a parallel lead in Nivedita Basu’s Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi.

She’ll be portraying the role of Sonali, who is Ranveer’s ex-girlfriend. She enters the show during Suman and Ranveer’s Sangeet, and nobody knows who invited her! With her entry in the show, it seems that the show will see some high voltage drama.

On being asked about the role, she confirmed it and said “Yes, I’ve joined the show as the parallel lead. The role seemed very interesting, and I could connect to it on a very personal level. On top of that, I’ve known Nivedita for a long time. Getting a chance to »

“Shabana Azmi’s Dolon In Sonata Will Stay With You For A Very Long Time” – Subhash K Jha Review

21 April 2017 12:05 AM, PDT

Sonata

Starring Shabana Azmi, Aparna Sen, Lilette Dubey

Directed by Aparna Sen

Except for one of the women landing up with a black eye and another making a shocking announcement at the end of this enchanting chamber piece—a sort of Beethoven for the sexually impaired—nothing really ‘happens’ in the 90-minute celluloid discourse on post-menopausal sexuality and other related topics on how to be a woman past her prime, without guilt and the accompanying crimes.

A lot of the recriminations and remonstrations that are thrown back and forth between Shabana Azmi and Aparna Sen are selfconsciously stagey, like two people, two women, who have been so close to one another for such a long time that they can afford to ‘act’ in front of one another without the risk of being misconstrued or causing permanent damage to their mutual relationship.

The fact that Shabana and Aparna have been friends »

Open Letter from Raveena Tandon

18 April 2017 11:42 PM, PDT

Actress Raveena Tandon, who will soon be seen in the drama revenge thriller Maatr has written an open letter to the nation.

“Crimes in India have been on a constant rise of late. As a mother, this really scares me. Sometimes, we read about horrifying incidents in the newspapers or watch these gruesome acts being discussed on television; during such times, my worst fears begin to haunt me. As a mother, a person’s thoughts are a lot different than how they would have been otherwise.

As of today, more than 34,000 rape cases are lodged every year, which is just a miniscule fraction of incidents that have actually occurred. Because of this, I am always on my guard. My blood boils when I read about people being harmed, about young boys and girls and their helpless parents.

Dear young boys, all I can tell you is Stop. Stop objectifying women. »
