Abcd 2 Music Review

26 May 2015 3:11 AM, PDT

After the surprising success of Abcd, Remo D’Sousa attempts a second a bite at the apple with Abcd 2. While its predecessor featured an ensemble of dancers and choreographers from India’s various dance-reality shows in starring roles along side Prabhudeva and K K Menon, the sequel features Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in pivotal roles with Prabhudeva and the returning cast of dancers/choreographers in the periphery.

Sachin-Jigar have reprised their roles as music-director composing a 10-track soundtrack featuring the vocal talents of Vishal Dadlani, Anushka Manchanda, Divya Kumar and Mika Singh.

‘Bezuban Phir Se’ substitutes the videsi interludes for desi ones with Vishal, Anushka and Madhav Krishna behind the mike this time. Vishal and Anushka easily deliver the stand-out performances while Madhav’s is a little underwhelming, mostly because it is hard to not compare his rendition of the returning hook with Priya Panchal and others. While both tracks are equally well arranged, »

Aparajito (The Unvanquished) 1956 – the second part of The Apu Trilogy

26 May 2015 1:00 AM, PDT

There is a pivotal moment in Satyajit Ray’s film Aparajito:  Apu’s mother, Sarbajaya (Karuna Banerjee) descends a staircase, obviously torn by the decision she must make after the death of Apu’s father Harihar (Kanu Banerjee).  Should she remain as the cook for the family she has been working for in Benares, happy with her work, even though this would mean taking Apu to Dewanpur?  Or should she take up the offer of her uncle, to move to a house he has in the village of Mansapota, where she will at least be sure to be looked after?  She pauses on the staircase long enough to watch Apu through a barred window, and it’s at this moment that she makes her decision.

This scene almost sums up everything about her role in Aparajito: the troubles of a mother, alone after the death of her husband, »

The two stars were tapped to voice emotions inside a young girl’s head in Pixar’s latest clever project, which premiered for press on Monday at Cannes. Poehler plays Joy, the front-and-center sentiment desperately trying to steer our growing protagonist away from more psychologically troublesome emotions like Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and others. While Poehler and Kaling helped give voice to that character’s feelings, they found themselves crying on two different occasions during the collaboration.

Mindy said, “I think I am sort of very specific—the way I look and talk and what I am interested in. »

Rana Daggubati went through intensive martial arts training for six months for his film Baahubali. The dedicated actor also trained using a combination of mixed martial arts and weapon training, for which he devoted 8 hours daily.

Talking about the experience Rana said, “Weapon training is always extremely fun. I have done a bit of it before. But this time it was more focused on the film so it had to be all the more precise. Along with the sword, I also trained with the mace and a chain mace which adapt a completely different technique. It is very important for the film especially when you’re doing a period drama. Unfreedom Movie Review

25 May 2015 12:55 AM, PDT

Unfreedom: Blemished Light –“It’s the choice we make when we are the most cornered in life that defines who we are.”

Raj Amit Kumar’s “Unfreedom” is a hard-hitting portrayal of the complexity being human. Powerful and well made, the film consists of superb performances.

This film will make you squirm with anger, disgust and shock towards the inhuman society we live in. To “hate” however is never simple.

The film portrays acts of inhumanity yet it also delves into the psyche of why? Why do people choose to commit acts of horror. Hating becomes impossible as it becomes clear that the perpetrator is actually an unhealed victim. Nevertheless, we all have a choice and Unfreedom emphasises the consequence of choice.

The film explores the lives of two different characters, Leela (Preeti Gupta) in Delhi and Husain (Bhanu Uday) in New York City.

24 May 2015 9:08 PM, PDT

Now this is what a good movie does to the audience. It creates such all around positive vibes that it makes you forget all the bad times that one may have experienced in theaters and makes you wonder if there was anything wrong at all in the first place. That’s the kind of magic Tanu Weds Manu Returns has created over the weekend gone by, what with fantastic word of mouth ensuring that audience footfalls has increased manifold with every passing day.

If Day One of the film was pretty much on expected lines with an average opening of over 50%, the real fun started from Saturday onwards when the collections started escalating, courtesy very good word of mouth. The reviews were out and out positive as well and with glowing words coming in on social media as well for the Aanand L Rai directed film, there were no surprises »
