Akshay Kumar promotes 5000 year old Ayurveda, breaks the internet

16 September 2017 11:00 PM, PDT

‘Desi’ is definitely in and none other than Akshay Kumar would agree. While his Toilet – Ek Prem Katha and Jolly Llb 2, both of which boasted of a ‘desi’ subject, went on to be 100 crore affairs this year, the same is happening in the world of internet as well. His latest advertisement where he is promoting ‘Ayurveda’ has gone viral, what with over 12 million views already garnered.

This isn’t all as it is also sitting right at the top of the list if one looks at the Top-5 ads that have gone viral.

In the ad, where he features alongside Tamannaah Bhatia, he is promoting the message of ‘Sahi Ayurveda’. While he is being his natural best, what is remarkable is the way in which he presents how 5000 year old Ayurvedic wisdom can well solve modern lifestyle problems.

There are quite a few other consumer product advertisements that feature in the list as well. »

“Kangana & Hansal Mehta weave a wacky entertainer in Simran” – Subhash K Jha Review

16 September 2017 10:00 PM, PDT

Simran

Starring Kangana RanautSohum Shah

Directed by Hansal Mehta

Rating: *** ½(3 and a half stars)

Imagine if your child turns out to be a sociopath. This, in one line, summarizes the whimsical plot of Hansal Mehta’s new high-on-life low-on-moralizing film.

Simran or Praful Patel (or Kangana Ranaut), is  no ordinary celluloid creation.  She gambles all her savings away in Las Vegas and spends the rest of her time back home in Atlanta robbing banks to pay back her dangerous  creditors (played by a mock-mafia of  amateurish American actors).

It’s hard to  imagine anyone but Mr Ranaut playing a Gujarati bandit queen, shooting her way through a series of hilariously-staged heists where Praful alias Simran gets to try out several wigs that wouldn’t fool a 5-year old playing a video game, let alone the American law enforcers who take  awfully long to cotton on to Praful’s harebrained get-rich-quick scheme. »

“Lucknow Central – Outstanding Study Of Imprisonment & Freedom” – Subhash K Jha

16 September 2017 9:00 PM, PDT

Lucknow Central

Starring Farhan AkhtarGippy Grewal, Diana PentyDeepak DobriyalRajesh Sharma, Inamulhaq

Directed by Ranjit Tiwari

Rating: **** ½ (4 and a half stars)

“You don’t get justice in the world, you only get good luck or bad luck,” a wise old librarian (pronounced ‘lee-bray-nian’ by his Lucknowi singer-son) quotes Orson Welles.

Our good luck, then, that we get a prison drama as taut and thrilling, relevant and resonant as Lucknow Central right in the middle of  the year when things are looking bloody bleak in Bollywood.

Yes, there is hope. Lucknow Central is by far the most engaging thinking-man’s thriller of the year. Ballsy and brave, it penetrates  the politics of prison life without relinquishing the right to engage us in a solid storytelling spree where a clever cat-and-mouse game is played out between a sadistic jailor (Ronit Roy, in top form) and a non-guilty prisoner (Farhan Akhtar »

“Aksar 2 is a classic suspense, old fashioned noir,” says Director Ananth Mahadevan

16 September 2017 8:00 PM, PDT

Director Ananth Mahadevan is all set to showcase Aksar 2 to the audience on the 6th of October. However, he feels that the film is being perceived as an erotica, which it is not. In fact Aksar 2 is a thrilling suspense drama that will keep the audience at the edge of their seats.

“The first Aksar was about a man asking another to seduce his wife, so it automatically lent itself to being a steamy film. But Aksar 2 is not in that genre at all. It is about six people coming together and playing mind games, and then realizing that things can boomerang. It is a classic suspense, old fashioned noir,” explained the concerned director.

The first trailer that was presented to the audience had a couple of love making scenes between Zareen Khan and Abhinav Shukla. However Ananth exclaims that films today do have steamy scenes but »
