Cheo Feliciano, Legendary Salsa Singer, Dies In Car Accident At 78

Salsa legend Jose Luis “Cheo” Feliciano died in a car crash Thursday morning in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was 78.

Felciano had been driving his Jaguar when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a light pole at 4:13 a.m., according to Puerto Rican police. It has yet to be reported how fast he was traveling at the time of the accident.

No other people were injured in the wreck. Feliciano, who did not like to wear a seatbelt according to his wife Coco, died at the scene.

“Father will live forever because he has given his music, his heart to his people,”Feliciano’s son José Enrique told El Nuevo Día. “Thank God we have his music to remember him by.”

Last year, Feliciano had been diagnosed with cancer and had been receiving treatments with the expectation of going into remission.

With Prince George in tow, the young royal couple went to the Sydney Opera House, where they posed for pictures and greeted the crowd of Australians that had gathered to greet them, reported USA Today. The lineup for the 2014 Cannes Film Festival has been announced, revealing which highly-anticipated films will be premiering and competing for the coveted Palme d’Or.

Among the most buzzworthy films set to premiere at Cannes is Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher, which features an all-star cast that includes Mark Ruffalo, Steve Carell and Channing Tatum. The dark movie tells the story of how Olympic Wrestling Champion Mark Schultz’s brother, fellow Olympic Champion Dave Schultz, was killed by John DuPont, a paranoid schizophrenic.

The Homesman, directed and starring Tommy Lee Jones, will be competing for the Palme d’Or. Maps to the Stars, directed by David Cronenberg and starring Julianne Moore, Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska, will also be competiting for the festival’s ultimate prize. Grace Kelly biopic Grace of Monaco, starring Nicole Kidman, will be Canne’s opening night film.

Valerie Harper Says She's Now 'Cancer-Free' After Terminal Diagnosis

Valerie Harper, best known for playing Rhoda Morgenstern on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rhoda, says she’s “absolutely cancer-free” over a year after announcing that she had terminal brain cancer.

"I'm absolutely cancer-free!" Harper told Closer Weekly. "My last scans have been positive, and my doctors are very happy. [The oncologist] looked at the scans and said, 'Oh my God, Valerie, this is very encouraging!' "

While her doctor is wary of telling the legendary comedic actress that she’s in remission, he’s more than happy with what the scans are showing. "My doctor doesn't use that term [remission],” said Harper. “He likes to say, 'I give you a treatment, and it's either responsive or non-responsive — and you are having a phenomenal response.'"

As part of her treatment regiment, Harper takes several pills in a “pulse does” – at one sitting, once per week.

X-Men director Bryan Singer has been accused of sexually abusing former child model and aspiring actor Michael Egan III in the 1990s when the alleged victim was 17-years-old.

Egan, who filed the lawsuit on Wednesday, claims that Singer, 48, pressured him into sexual acts at parties in both California and Hawaii. In exchange for the sex acts, Egan was promised help in his career, including auditions for commercials and other acting jobs as well as modeling gigs, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

Though Egan names Singer as one of his abusers, claiming that he threatened him if he didn’t perform as requested and gave him drugs and alcohol, Egan says that it was tech entrepreneur Marc Collins-Rector who lured him into the sex ring that included other high-profile Hollywood men.

Andre Johnson, a rapper who is affiliated with the Wu-Tang Clan and goes by the stage name Christ Bearer, cut off his penis prior to jumping off a building in North Hollywood early Wednesday morning.

Johnson leapt from the second story of an apartment building, according to police. Although he survived the fall, the rapper was seriously injured and rushed to Cedars Sinai Medical Center along with his recovered penis. Johnson is still being treated for his injuries, reported CNN.

It’s unknown what caused Johnson to commit the act of self-mutilation followed by the daring leap, though it’s believed the rapper was likely trying to commit suicide.

Tribeca will host the world premiere of Gabriel, starring Rory Culkin, Thursday, April 17.

Gabriel is the feature film debut of writer and director Lou Howe, who has previously directed two short films, and was accepted into the Tribeca Film Festival as part of the Narrative Competition.

The film is about Gabriel (Culkin), a man who embarks on a desperate search to find his first love, hoping it will bring stability to his life and ground him. As his search becomes complicated, Gabriel loses touch with reality and becomes increasingly impulsive and dangerous.

South Korea Ferry Passengers Sent Last-Minute Texts As Vessel Sank

As the South Korea Ferry “Sewol” began to take on water on Tuesday with 462 passengers onboard, some tried to reach out to loved ones via text, realizing the worst was likely happening.

Most of the passengers aboard were students from a suburban Seoul high school, who were traveling with 15 teachers. “Mom, this might be the last chance to tell you I love you,” one student wrote to his or her mother, reported the New York Daily News. Another frightened student reached out to her father, explaining why she couldn’t get out of the ship.

“Dad, I can’t walk out because the ship is tilted, and I don’t see anyone in the corridor,” the unidentified student texted.

So far, 175 passengers have been rescued from the wreckage, including 75 from Danwah High School.

Tribeca Film Festival Jury Features Lake Bell, Whoopi Goldberg And More

This year’s Tribeca Film Festival jury features 33 members, including Whoopi Goldberg, Lake Bell, as well as The Hunger Games director Gary Ross.

The 33 jury members will be split into seven groups, one for each competition category: World Narrative Competition, World Documentary Competition, Best New Narrative Director, Best New Documentary Director, Narrative Short Film, Documentary and the Student Visionary Award. Two other awards, the Bombay Sapphire Award for Transmedia and the Norah Ephron Prize, will also be awarded. Winners of the seven festival categories will receive $150,000 and prizes, and eight of the winners will also get to take home an original artwork. Maya Rudolph Variety Show Heading To NBC, To Feature Kristen Bell & Andy Samberg In Premiere

Maya Rudolph, the Saturday Night Live alum and Bridesmaids actress, will be debuting her own variety show on NBC next month.

The Maya Rudolph Show, which will include musical numbers and sketches, is being executive produced by SNL’s Lorne Michaels. Though it’s only slated to be a one-hour special, it’s possible that it could be optioned as an ongoing series for NBC.
