The Oscars Don't Have A Best Beard Award... But We Do

Oscars: The Seven Youngest Academy Award Nominees Ever

22 February 2013 1:52 PM, PST

By Beckett Mufson

If Quvenzhané Wallis wins at this year's Oscars, she will be the youngest Academy Award winner ever, aside from Shirley Temple, who won a non-competitive award in 1935. If Wallis doesn't win, she will still be among the elite dramatic forces of small children who are good at pretending to be other small children, which is a respectable accomplishment. Each of these starlets earned a permanent place in the day care of cinema history, and are the standard that child actors everywhere are measured against.

Here they are the best of the youngest and the youngest of the best the Academy has ever seen.

Justin Henry, 8 years-old, for "Kramer vs. Kramer"

Justin Henry is the leader of this prestigious bunch because of his Best Supporting Actor nod for playing Billy Kramer in "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1979). His childlike honesty and earnestness are the heart and soul of the film, »

I Find My Lack Of This Darth Vader Statuette Disturbing

22 February 2013 10:00 AM, PST

Bear with us for a second, guys. We just hallucinated that there was an impossibly cool statue of Darth Vader, holding his own helmet in introspection.

Oh God, it's real!

The statuette comes from the always impressive Sideshow Collectibles (via io9), and it's the latest in their "Star Wars Mythos" series of badass figures. On top of being simply a cool look at one of the most iconic characters of all time, the Vader "Mythos" statues allows you to remove the helmet and gaze upon the beauty of Sebastian Shaw.

Click past the jump to see even more photos of the Vader "Mythos" statue!

Read Sideshow's explanation below:

"For our Star Wars Mythos version of Darth Vader we chose a moment in time between the trilogies, where he has returned to his symbolic birthplace on Mustafar for a moment of deep reflection on his choices. He is caught in a pose reminiscent of Shakespearean introspect, »

Mark Strong Talks 'Beautiful, Epic' 'Day Of The Falcon'

22 February 2013 7:30 AM, PST

by Ryan Rigley

Mark Strong is a man of many talents; chief among those talents being his uncanny ability to portray larger than life movie villains. He's already played dozens of memorable antagonists (in such films as "Green Lantern," "Sherlock Holmes," "Kick-Ass" and "Body of Lies") but never before has the British-born actor taken on a role quite as challenging as Sultan Amar in Jean-Jacques Annaud's latest film, "Day of the Falcon."

"I think it was just a fantastic story," Strong tells MTV News of reading the "Day of the Falcon" script for the first time. "I remember reading it on a beautiful sunny day looking out over the sea at Cannes and it was an incredibly atmospheric place to sit down and read a script. The script itself was just this beautiful, epic story. I just got carried away with it really."

"The funny thing is, I’ve played a couple of Arabs, »

Red Band 'Spring Breakers' Trailer Somehow Gets Darker But Has More Neon

21 February 2013 12:58 PM, PST

A new, Nsfw, red band, 17+, trailer for Harmony Korine's "Spring Breakers" just popped up over at Yahoo! Movies, and this thing continues to look darker and darker.

This preview focuses more heavily on James Franco's character, Alien, than any other before it. It looks like the girls, played by Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine, will eventually turn the tables on the man who just wanted to be bad.

Check out the full trailer after the jump, but you should absolutely not do that if you are younger than 17 years old.

"Spring Breakers" opens in select theaters on March 15 and everywhere else on March 22.

You Decide The Academy Awards: Best Director

21 February 2013 12:32 PM, PST

Rarely has a snub gone on to define a category, but this year's Best Director race has been marked by the absence of Ben Affleck.

Watch MTV's official Oscars roundtable and see our predictions!

Before his film "Argo" went on an awards tear and started cleaning up at every ceremony, his lack of a nomination seemed like an oversight, but now it's just flat wrong, since he likely would have won.

But that's what's so great about MTV Movies Blog's You Decide 2013 polls; you don't have to listen to what the Academy says. You choose the winner.

Vote in the polls after the jump!

Polls close tomorrow (2/22) at 3 p.m. Et, so vote now! Check back to the winner on Saturday!

Happy Birthday, Alan Rickman! An Appreciation Of Awesome

21 February 2013 10:59 AM, PST

On February 21, 67 years ago, a man was born. This man was actor, an actor who could find the perfect way to deliver a line, even if it took twice the normal amount of time to recite it. An actor with a voice that would inspire a legion of imitations and launch thousands of Tumblrs. An icon whose most popular character would take him all the way to the championship of the Harry Potter World Cup.

Yes, today is Alan Rickman's birthday, and we couldn't be happier to celebrate it and all the ways the man behind Severus Snape makes us happy.

In the latest episode of "After Hours," Labeouf and Wood have to answer the hardest question of them all, "Would you rather?"

Watch the video above to find out the difficult answers to questions like: "Would Shia rather have penis fingers or a finger penis?" or "Would Evan rather change her name to 'Evan Almighty' or 'Woody Harrelson'? "

'Twilight' Gets An Art-House Make Over In Horror Bites

21 February 2013 8:30 AM, PST

Xan Cassavetes — daughter of famed moviemaking couple director John Cassavetes and actress Gena Rowlands — seems to have been inspired by the sexy and twisted vampire films from the 1970s for her new movie "Kiss of the Damned." The cool, contemporary take on bloodsucking fiends tells the story of one vamp falling in love with a human, but the relationship is threatened when the undead woman's wild sister shows up.

The entire vampire community also becomes endangered thanks to the troublemaker's pathological personality. The red band trailer that popped up on Yahoo! this week reveals a very retro, erotic vibe. Look for "Kiss of the Damned" on iTunes/On Demand March 28, or see it in theaters May 3. We vote you whet your appetite in the meantime by watching this Nsfw trailer.

Check out the trailer (and the rest of Horror Bites) after the jump!

The 50 Greatest Movies That Lost The Best Picture Oscar

21 February 2013 6:43 AM, PST

From Film.Com

It's no secret that the Oscars are not the be-all and end-all indicator of which film from each year is the greatest. Some of the best movies ever slipped through the Academy cracks and went away without taking home the top prize, but which of those unfortunate snubs is the best?

The folks over at Film.com have compiled an exhaustive list of the greatest Best Picture losers, and what might be the funniest take away from this list is that it could simply function as a solid list of the 50 greatest movies of all time without that many glaring omissions.

So before you start worrying about whether your favorite movie from this year will get robbed on Sunday night, take a look at the list. If it ends up losing — we're talking to you, "Zero Dark Thirty" fans — rest assured that it's joining some fantastic company. »
