'Where Do We Go Now?' Review: Political Tale Can't Figure Out If It's a Satire

11 May 2012 12:02 PM, PDT

Oscar prognosticators were flummoxed when “Where Do We Go Now?” won the audience award at last year’s Toronto Film Festival -- previous winners like “Slumdog Millionaire” and “The King’s Speech” had turned the prize into an Academy Awards bellwether. But this Arabic-language film (with smatterings of Russian and English) didn’t exactly fit the mass-market profile of its predecessors. Mainstream audiences heading out to see “Where Do We Go Now?” in its regular release may find themselves similarly confounded, but for entirely different reasons. Director and co-writer Nadine Labaki has set out to »

'Angry Birds' Successor - 'Amazing Alex' - Being Readied by Rovio

11 May 2012 11:59 AM, PDT

Rovio is hoping to repeat its "Angry Birds" success with a new videogame called “Amazing Alex.” The game, a revamp of a pixelated precursor called “Casey’s Contraptions,” is scheduled for release within the next two months, Rovio CEO Mikael Hed said on a Finnish television breakfast show on Friday. A physics puzzler, it centers on a young boy, Alex, who likes to build things. The big question is whether “Alex” can spawn the same kind of success as the avian demoliton derby "Angry Birds." Pablo Picasso Would Have Loved 'Dark Shadows'

11 May 2012 10:00 AM, PDT

Pablo Picasso would have loved "Dark Shadows." The fantasy make-up of Depp and Co. is straight out of Picasso's Harlequin Period. Cubism and its mates would have cheered the art direction. Braque and Matisse would have enjoyed this film, simply just to look at it. How do I know? I was engaged to Pablo Picasso's son, Claude, and lived in Paris with his family -- including Paloma, who dressed as though she had just stepped out of "Dark Shadows." Her body was an art form that she delighted in camping up with »

Romney attended Cranbrook while his father was the governor of Michigan, the setting of "8 Mile."
