Chris Weitz's Ya 'Young World' trilogy to be directed by himself

29 June 2013 2:08 PM, PDT

There's nothing quite like taking matters into your own hands, right? Chris Weitz - who directed "The Golden Compass" and "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" book-to-film properties and earned an Oscar nomination for his script adaptation of "About A Boy" in 2003 - will be given the job of translating his own books to the big screen this time. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Weitz's upcoming book trilogy "The Young World" was nabbed up in a heated studio contest by Warner Bros., with Weitz himself in the lead to direct the resulting movie(s). The book series, the first installment of which will hit shelves later this year, is described by publisher Little Brown Books for Young Readers as follows: 'The Young World' is the gripping first installment of a trilogy set in the not-so-distant future in a post-apocalyptic New York City following the catastrophic destruction of the world as we know it. »

'Divergent' set disassembling as another castmember nears wrapping

27 June 2013 11:31 AM, PDT

Today, a much-observed, speculated and action-filled set from the Chicago-based "Divergent" movie adaptation is being disassembled. As pointed out on Twitter by Illinois local Andrew Coffey, the Abnegation village set which saw so many Dauntless invaders and that one big climax moment with Tris (Shailene Woodley), Four (Theo James), Eric (Jai Courtney) and Max (Mekhi Phifer) - which was videotaped! - is now coming down, adding another end to this movie production process. Sad face. On a similar note, actress Amy Newbold (who portrays Molly of the Dauntless initiate group in the film) tweeted today, "2nd to last day on #Divergent set!!! #EndisNear #Bittersweet #NextAdventureAwaits." See also: That's a wrap for Miles Teller's portion of 'Divergent' filming! Taylor Lautner takes a beating on the set of 'Tracers'

26 June 2013 9:27 AM, PDT

Post-"Twilight" life is shaping up to be a bit brutal for Taylor Lautner ... sort of. Lautner is currently in New York City, New York filming his latest movie "Tracers," about a kid who gets entangled in the world of parkour and has some rough dealings with some mafia sorts, and he was recently spotted taking a few punches to the gut on the set of the film. Yep, as the attached video shows, the poor chaps gets man-handled on a car for the film - although he was photographed all-smiles in between takes - as his little bike messenger character Cam. 26 June 2013 9:12 AM, PDT

20th Century Fox has debuted a new, international trailer for "Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters" which features some new content from the movie, not the least of which is this positional speech by Logan Lerman as the titular hero: "I learned that the gods of Olympus are real and that sometimes they have children with humans called half-bloods. We're pretty much like anyone else but with a few notable differences. We live in the only place that is safe for our kind ... until now." The 15 most hilarious 'Divergent' memes so far

24 June 2013 9:06 AM, PDT

Readers of this site will well know that I am absolutely obsessed with "Divergent" fan art. Frankly, it's almost as exciting to come across some talented artist's rendering of a favorite scene or character as it is to see the movie stills of the same coming through. But fan art is just a sliver of the goodness available on the web-o-sphere these days, and it'd be remiss to overlook all the juicy meme fare out there in the "Divergent" world. View slideshow: The 15 most hilarious 'Divergent' memes so far So, painstakingly (read: not at all), I scoured the net over the weekend for some initiate-friendly "Divergent" memes and threw together fifteen of the best and most hilarious ones so far. Which one's your fave? I'm gonna have to go with the "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory" because ... obviously. But then that "Futurama"-meets-"The Hunger Games" one gets me »

'The Fault In Our Stars' to begin shooting this August

24 June 2013 8:33 AM, PDT

While it's been no secret that "The Fault In Our Stars" director Josh Boone and producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen have been eyeing an end of summer start to filming on their adaptation of John Green's best-seller, until now no firm date had yet been arranged. Over the weekend, though, Boone finally narrowed the proposed beginning to filming as August. Boone tweeted Saturday, "What am I doing? Location scouting #tfios. We shoot at the end of August! @realjohngreen @shailenewoodley @AnselElgort." Boone also confirmed, once again, that shooting will indeed take place in Amsterdam for some of the story's most crucial scenes. Producer Wyck Godfrey, meanwhile, had written on Friday, "Leaving #themazerunner to scout locations for #thefaultinourstars #neveradullmoment." Good times! 'Divergent' stars throw first pitch at Chicago Cubs game

24 June 2013 5:07 AM, PDT

It's a well-documented fact that the cast of the "Divergent" movie adaptation has been making good use of its time off-set in Chicago, and this weekend was no exception. "Divergent" stars Ben Lloyd-Hughes (Will), Christian Madsen (Al) and Amy Newbold (Molly) all stole away from the set on Saturday to not only attend a Chicago Cubs game but to also throw out the first pitch! View slideshow: 'Divergent' stars throw first pitch at Chicago Cubs game on June 22, 2013 Judging by his tweet on the subject, it was Madsen who did the throwing honors Saturday, but the whole trio seemed to have a ball rooting for none other than the home team! And the Cubs weren't the only Chicago-based sports team to receive some "Divergent" cast love this weekend, either. The Blackhawks, who are making the Windy City really proud right about now, also got some cast fanfare. Madsen »

Close-up 'Divergent' set video show pivotal climax scene

24 June 2013 4:48 AM, PDT

Another video glimpse at what went down last week over at the "Divergent" Abnegation village set on S. Wells has been unveiled, initiates. It's semi-spoilery, so it's probably best to steer clear if you've not yet read the book (which is totally not an issue, right?!). This time the video, found by my tireless pals at DivergentFans.com, offered up a much closer glimpse at filming of a pivotal outdoor scene involving Four (Theo James), Tris (Shailene Woodley), Eric (Jai Courtney) and Max (Mekhi Phifer). Fans will probably recognize it as a specific portion of the climax, after Abnegation comes under attack by the simulation serum-induced members of Dauntless. As pointed out by DivergentFans.com, this moment is easily pegged as the one written on pages 424 and 425 when Tris and Four are pegged as divergent and a stand-off ensues between them and Max and Eric.
