Disaster for Parker Schnabel after Rick Ness cranks up production on Gold Rush

17 November 2017 8:39 AM, PST

Rick Ness feels like he’s left with no choice but to crank production up to the max on this week’s Gold Rush — after boss Parker Schnabel pressures him to come up with more gold. But things end in disaster when the water being used at the plant turns to mud almost as soon as he ramps up production. Muddy water’s no good, as it washes the gold right out of the sluices. By increasing the yardage around 25 per cent, Rick had been hoping that the paydirt and gravel throughput could possibly deliver another 25 ounces of gold by...read more »

17 November 2017 7:08 AM, PST

The sneak peek for next week’s The Curse of Oak Island episode showed a coin being found — which it’s thought could be the “hard evidence” the team receive in Episode 3 of a European presence on the island long before the discovery of the Money Pit. The footage, which was shown at the end of Episode 2, included a close-up of the coin lying on metal-detecting expert Gary Drayton’s hand. After the discovery, Marty Lagina is seen pointing at Dave Blankenship and saying: “I’ve never seen you so excited!” He replies: “Because it means something!” Marty says: “Here’s hard evidence...read more »

Tonight’s Real Time with Bill Maher is the last of his 2017 shows — and includes Chelsea Handler, Carl Bernstein and Max Brooks as guests. Environmentalist Bill McKibben is the top-of-show interview guest. In a telling American Magazine interview, McKibben implored conservative people to look to the Bible as evidence that climate change and human hands involved in the desecration of the earth are real and worthy of their concern. Citing the Book of Job, he said: “That soliloquy that God delivers at the end of Job 38 and what follows is I think the longest speech that God gives anywhere...read more »

Who is Kentaro Kameyama from Project Runway? Designer blew the judges away

17 November 2017 2:40 AM, PST

Spoilers Ahead! Last night’s Project Runway Season 16 finale took pretty much everyone by surprise — not least the eventual winner, Kentaro Kameyama. Kentaro went into the finale as a real outsider with Brandon Kee way ahead in the odds after a season which saw him go from strength to strength. But when it came down to the final collections at New York Fashion Week there were only two in it at the end — Kentaro and Ayana Ife, the show’s first modest fashion designer. Kentaro eventually walked away with the crown, but took his win in humble fashion. He...read more »

16 November 2017 5:21 PM, PST

Amazon have recently acquired global TV rights to The Lord of the Rings and they have agreed to create a multi-season series and possibly some spin-off ones as well. In a rights deal said to be worth $250 million, the online retailer and increasingly powerful TV show creator has struck a deal that will see them work with Tolkien Estate and Trust; HarperCollins; and New Line Cinema to bring stories set before The Fellowship of the Ring to the small screen. However, it’s not yet clear what that might involve in terms of the characters or even the epoch being featured. When...read more »

Wonder review: Being the change they wish to see

16 November 2017 4:23 PM, PST

Parents are always trying to teach their kids to be good people, but it can be hard to illustrate morality in words alone. That’s not just for kids. Adults too often don’t think about the consequences of their actions until it’s too late. So a movie like Wonder that shows the pain bullying causes and the benefit for both parties in just being kind is valuable to everyone. Auggie (Jacob Tremblay) was born with a rare condition that caused facial deformities. After many surgeries, he’s healthy but it’s time to go to public school for fifth grade. There, Julian (Bryce...read more »

Justice League review: A league of their oh no

16 November 2017 1:59 PM, PST

Justice League is worse than Batman v Superman. I say that as someone who likes Batman v Superman more than most but understands the complaints it’s too convoluted and grimdark. But for better or worse, Batman v Superman had a personality. Justice League is so watered down it’s nothing. There may be a few good short films for The Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) to preview their solo movies. There’s even a good Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) short to tide you over until Wonder Woman 2. The Batman solo short is weak though, and when...read more »

Who is Brandon Kee from Project Runway? Get to know the fashion designer extraordinaire

16 November 2017 1:55 PM, PST

Brandon Kee was a stand-out contestant on Project Runway ever since the start of the show’s sixteenth season back in August. He was easily the favorite to win going into the season finale after repeatedly producing the goods, and being the only contestant to come out top in challenges in three separate weeks. He was only one of only two designers — along with Ayana Ife — never to appear in the bottom three. But who is Brandon and how did he get so good at fashion? The 24-year-old has previously told how he has known he wanted to be a...read more »
