Film Director Has a Theory on Why Most Video Game Movies Stink

The gaming world has been suffering from bad movies for nearly 30 years now.  While I would argue that it’s definitely coming along, the collective public would agree that video games turned into movies have not exactly been successful at the box office.  When Tomb Raider is your most profitable movie franchise you know there’s a problem.   Assassin’s Creed gave it a shot and if anything I’d give it a C for moving things along, but it still didn’t “get it right.” Here’s the thing though.  How can you “get it right?” There’s one movie director who has a theory.

Dove Cameron and The Disney Channel Playbook for Young Females

Alright, I’ve had it.    Dove Cameron is officially the straw that broke the camel’s back.  I have to say this.  I feel I’m obligated and that an investigation needs to take place as soon as possible.  Not sure if you’ve seen these new photos of Dove Cameron channeling a Marilyn Monroe but the above photo is part of the gallery.  Don’t get me wrong.  Dove Cameron is 21 years old and she can do whatever she wants.   And I do admit she happens to do an excellent rendition of Monroe in Galore magazine.  The photo shoot was done by Prince

When the Muppets Parody La La Land All is Right in the World

Most movies that are nominated for as many awards as La La Land get parodied.  It’s natural.  But even I can admit it’s a little more natural when you have a movie that 100% deserves to be parodied.   It’s not like Platoon was getting the serious parody treatment back in the 80s.  I mean sure, people were acting out scenes and there was some funny stuff but Platoon wasn’t a lavish Broadway musical type movie specifically written to get an Oscar. If you think this movie wasn’t written for that purpose and that purpose only, think again.  Look at the

I Really Do Wish They Could All be California Girls

And no not the Katy Perry kind or even The Beach Boys kind.   I’m talking about David Lee Roth’s “California Girls.”  Maybe it’s because I just heard the song in my car.  Maybe because it’s 2017 and I seriously long for the 80s but I just gotta hand it to that song for being hands down one of the most fun songs I’ve ever heard.  It’s just so “not serious.”  It’s just so “California beachy.”  Every single time I hear this song I immediately think of 80s people wearing bathing suits zooming down the pavement in Venice Beach on roller

Here’s to Logan and John Wick 2 Not Being in 3D

I was particularly happy when I saw a Reddit post hit their front page and the title reads “a cheer for ‘Logan’ and ‘John Wick 2’ for Not being in 3D!”  I’d like to share the exact post that the individual made.  Right now it’s sitting at #2 on the front page with close to 40,000 upvotes.  It wasn’t flashy.  It’s not a once in a lifetime literary piece.  It’s just an honest dude from Germany telling it like it is. I’ve recently seen both these films. and they are both not in 3D which made the quality of watching

An Open Letter to 1990s Alicia Silverstone

Did you know that Alicia Silverstone is 40 years old?  I had no clue.  Did you know the next movie she’ll be in is “Diary of a Wimpy Kid?”  I didn’t.  P.S. Alicia, this is absolutely not even close to a knock on being in that movie.  That you’re still here after starting in 1992 is amazingly impressive.  Most actors buckle under the pressure of teen success and don’t make it all the way into their 40s on screen.  So kudos to that.    But I just need to take a moment to appreciate 90s Alicia Silverstone.  It all began in

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Trailer and Poster are Here

I’m pretty sure that will all of the Marvel, DC and other million and a half promos, teasers, and posters coming out the real one you were waiting for was “The Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” All jokes aside though, a new trailer is here. You know who else isn’t joking? Author Jeff Kinney who created this book-series. It’s one of the most successful book series of all time. While it’s not Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling I think it’s safe to say that Kinney doesn’t have to work another day in his entire life. Anyway, 20th Century Fox has

Oscars Best Picture Nominees Get Artist Inspired Alternative Movie Posters

The designers at Shutterstock decided to mark the 30 year anniversary of Andy Warhol’s death with a special art project.   They’ve recently release an amazing display of posters of the nine films that have been nominated for best picture by the Academy.    This is all part of Shutterstock’s annual Oscar pop! series. The designers only used images taken from Shutterstock.  Each poster is inspired by a different pop artist, and riffs on motifs from the films’ original posters. If you’re not psyched for Sunday night then perhaps these visuals will pique your interest a bit more. Each poster has a

You may think you’re a pretty athletic person. You might reminisce about the days you played sports in high school or the times you dominated your fellow friends and peers at the local Ymca. But there’s always that one time when a real athlete would walk into the gym and severely put you in your place.  It’s happened to all of us.  You think you’re the best one at the gym and all of a sudden a pro shows up and shows you what being athletic really is. Runner is About to Win a Race and Gets Nailed by a Pole Vault Bar

Accidents happen in every sport you can possibly imagine.  But it’s very rare that you see something in track and field, particularly with runners.   Don’t get me wrong.  There are plenty of videos out there capturing blunders, false starts,  people falling down, and times where runners smash into each other.  However, I’m quite certain you’ve never seen something like this before.    According to the Independent Runner Aengus Meldon was denied victory at an Irish university athletics event after a freak accident with a pole vault bar. Meldon, a student at Nui Galway, was leading in the final straight of his

Ian McShane Says Game of Thrones Fans Need to Get a Life

I’ll be the first to tell you that I like Ian MacShane.  He’s one of the best “gruff” actors out there.  No one does “man” roles better than Ian MacShane with the exception of maybe Sam Elliott.  You might remember McShane appearing on Game of Thrones last season.   While he wasn’t on the show long he definitely left his mark and fans loved his appearance.   McShane, who played Brother Ray in “The Broken Man,” just said something he may very well regret about Got fans. Here’s the full rundown from Digital Spy Ian McShane was pretty awesome in his one-off

10 Movie Diseases That You Do Not Want to Catch

Remember how awesome getting sick was as a kid?  It meant you didn’t have to go to school and you got to play games or watch TV all day.  Ever notice how as an adult getting sick isn’t too awesome at all?  Actually it’s one of the worst things imaginable.   I loathe being sick.   While I’ve been to the hospital for sickness and know people who have disease and have had disease, what you see in the movies with regards to sickness is generally way worse that the stuff you see in the real world. And who better to point

The Reality of Ryan’s Toy Review: It’s Hard Work

As a parent I’ve seen more children’s TV than I’d care to mention.  If there’s one thing I’ve figured out about the 3-7 year old demographic it’s that its close to impossible to tell what these kids are going to latch onto.  Seriously.  That’s the only constant I know.  No one knew while creating the Teletubbies that they would take off.  No one could have really predicted if Sid the Science Kid would be successful.  Yes, I’m sure there are analysts at work right now studying trends and doing the math on what might project well with little kids, but

La La Land Gets the 8-Bit Cinema Treatment

I have a full out confession to make.  I’ve never seen La La Land and I never will.   I happen to be a huge opponent of these over the top musical type movies that pay homage to the “old Hollywood.”  I can’t stand this stuff.  I mean have you ever seen guys like Humphrey Bogart even act?  That wasn’t acting.  It just wasn’t.  It was an over the top method of saying dialogue that simply wasn’t spoken in real life.  I could do an entire paper on this for college only I’m not in college and I don’t feel like
