Watch: Oprah On Americans Who 'Take Pills Like Candy'

Americans don't shy away from taking pills. According to Ims Health, an estimated 16 million people in the United States use painkillers, 5 million take sleep aids and 18 million rely on some form of antidepressants. In this week's "Super Soul Sunday," Oprah and a panel of dynamic thought leaders tackle the issue of pill-popping in this country -- is it a necessity or has it become gratuitous?

For Oprah, the pill-popping statistics raise a deep philosophical question. "Do these numbers point to a collective hole in the soul of our country?" she asks her panel in the video. Reverend Ed Bacon of the All Saints Episcopal Church addresses the issue of taking pills with a personal admission that he himself takes sleep aids and pain medicine.

"For me, it is an Ok thing to do if it's going to help me enter life. If it helps me avoid life, that's a different matter, »

Roman Polanski's Shocking Words On Women

Cannes, France — Roman Polanski says the birth control pill has had a "masculinizing" effect on women and that the leveling of the sexes is "idiotic"

The director made the comments Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival, where he came to premiere "Venus in Fur," a film adapted from the David Ives play which stars Polanski's wife and toys with the subject of gender.

Polanski said the pill has "changed the place of women in our times" while talking to reporters. He further lamented that "offering flowers to a lady" has become "indecent."

The 79-year-old Polanski was famously convicted of having sex with a minor in a 1977 case. He was initially indicted on six felony counts, including rape by use of drugs, child molesting and sodomy, but pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Polanski, whose past films include "Chinatown" and "Rosemary's Baby," fled the United States after a »

Will She Stay Or Will She Go?

LuAnn de Lesseps is standing alone in Bravo's epic "Real Housewives Of New York City" salary dispute.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, De Lesseps has refused to sign a deal that would keep her on the reality series. While fellow cast member Aviva Drescher was originally with her in the fight for higher pay, Drescher has since given in.

Hey @extratv ! U guys just aired that I am not signed on to #rhony season 6. 4r betr or worse signed on and filming! #masochist. Lolxoxo

— Aviva Drescher (@AvivaDrescher) May 23, 2013

It's not clear how big De Lesseps' role will be if she does eventually sign, or Drescher's for that matter. But Bravo has threatened to cancel the series in recent weeks, especially when Ramona Singer and Carole Radziwill refused to sign on earlier this month.

No Time For The Naysayers

Despite polarized reactions, Zach Braff's contentious Kickstarter campaign closed Friday with more than $3.1 million in pledged donations. That figure significantly surpasses the project's $2 million goal, which was met within two days of its launch.

The "Scrubs" actor took to Twitter to thank the 46,520 supporters who contributed:

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I won't let you down! Lets do this. twitter.com/zachbraff/stat…

Zach Braff (@zachbraff) May 24, 2013

Braff's efforts will float a hefty portion of "Wish I Was Here," his directorial follow-up to 2004's "Garden State." The remainder of the funding will come from movie investment company Worldview Entertainment, which kicked in the balance in a deal made at the Cannes Film Festival.

The movie boasts a cast that includes Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad, Anna Kendrick, Jim Pasons and fellow "Scrubs" star Donald Faison.

Despite Braff's decided success, the Kickstarter endeavor has seemed to garner as »

Watch: The Fresh Prince Is Back

The audience at BBC's "Graham Norton Show" was in for a treat this week when Will Smith performed the theme to "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" with some special guests -- take a look in the video above.

Smith was on the show with his 14-year-old son Jaden Smith when they got to talking about their individual music careers. Norton asked the father-and-son duo to perform, prompting Will to beatbox while his son rapped. The Smith men then launched into a rendition of the "Fresh Prince" theme, complete with DJ Jazzy Jeff on the turntables, and a surprise appearance by Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks on the beloved television show.

If the mini-reunion wasn't good enough, the performance also included gratuitous shots of Bradley Cooper adorably grinning along and Heather Graham doing some serious hairography to the performance, as the actors were also on the "Graham Norton Show" that day. »

Tilda Swinton's Vampire Love-Story

Cannes, France — Tilda Swinton injects her own brand of otherworldly-cool into Jim Jarmusch's latest movie "Only Lovers Left Alive," an unusual comedy that puts a spin on the age-old vampire genre.

The film, the last English-language entry competing for the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or, sees Swinton play Eve, a grungy but erudite vampire – who's married to a forlorn vampire musician, Adam, played by Tom Hiddlestone. Several-hundred-year-old Adam – of Biblical fame – has been living quite happily ever since being expelled from the Garden of Eden.

That is, until the 21st century came along with its excesses and greed and pushed him into a full-flung existential crisis. He cracks, and orders a wooden bullet to kill himself.

With such a wacky plot, it's no surprise the film nearly didn't get made. It took seven years to find a backer – which Jarmusch says is because producers won't take creative risks anymore. »

'The Missing Picture' Collects Cannes' Un Certain Regard Prize

Cannes, France — An autobiographical French-Cambodian film, "The Missing Picture," which explores the bloody history of Pol Pot's dictatorship in late 1970s Cambodia, has won the "Un Certain Regard" prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

To rousing applause, director Rithy Panh collected the award at a ceremony Saturday night, expressing his gratitude to be able "to have the freedom to do the films I want to do."

Panh's film, based on his nightmarish memoir "The Elimination," documents his own family's experience under the heavy-handed Communist Party's Khmer Rouge, which resulted in the death of his parents and sisters.

The "Un Certain Regard" accolade, presented one day before the Palme d'Or and decided by a jury of cinema insiders, rewards works from up-and-coming filmmakers or those that transmit original messages and aesthetics.

The premise of the "missing picture" in the film is that because of censorship within Cambodia, no photo exists that »

Is This The Tracklist To Kanye's 'Yeezus'?

The tracklist to Kanye West's upcoming "Yeezus" album may have leaked early.

A photo of a pre-order form for the album was obtained by music blog Beats Per Minute, showing the names of thirteen songs. The likely fake tracklist photo shows "New Slaves" and "Black Skinhead," recent material released by West, as well as eleven other songs.

The remaining tracks are called "Awake with the Dark," "Lightning" "Onsite," "God (Interlude)," "Chained," "Perfect," "Boxed Out," "The Follower," "Hyper Critical," "In The Heavens," and "Demon." The questionable tracklist includes collaborations with Travi$ Scott, John Legend, RZA, Chief Keef, and Tyler, The Creator.

This isn't the first alleged tracklist that has leaked for the artist. In February, before news broke that the album would be called "Yeezus," a tracklist photo suggested that West's next project would be called "Rich Black American." That tracklist only lined up with the current rumors with one »

Jerry Lewis Slams Cannes

Cannes, France — Jerry Lewis, so beloved in France, isn't quite overcome with emotion now that he's back at the Cannes Film Festival.

The festival, he says, is "for snobs," and when he meets a reporter from his native land, he exhales, "It's so nice to hear an American." To him, Cannes isn't an epicenter of rabid Lewis fandom, it's simply "business," he says, chomping on gum.

And at 87, Lewis is back in business. Nearly two decades since his last film, he's at Cannes with "Max Rose," a modest independent film in which he stars as an elderly man reconciling himself to life without his late wife.

"I'm very happy to relax and stay home with my family, and if something comes up, I'll consider it," Lewis, in an interview, said of his return to movies. "That's the nice part about 87. You just tell people: Oh, you're very tired."

'I Never Give Advice Unless Someone Asks Me For It'

In terms of age and stature, Taylor Swift is sandwiched somewhere between Selena Gomez and Madonna -- at least according to last weekend's Billboard Music Awards, where Gomez represented the show's youngest performers and Madonna its most seasoned.

In a new interview with Billboard, Swift reflects on that position, saying she looks up to the 54-year-old Madonna, who took home Top Touring Artist honors, and avoids doling out advice to younger stars like Gomez.

"I never give advice unless someone asks me for it," she said when asked what lessons she would pass on to the 20-year-old Gomez and 19-year-old Ariana Grande. "One thing I've learned, and possibly the only advice I have to give, is to not be that person giving out unsolicited advice based on your own personal experience. I've always had a lot of older people giving me advice because I'm young, and in the end, it »

Sophia Bush's New Man Is A Hunk

Sophia Bush was beaming as she stepped out with her new beau in Los Angeles, Calif., yesterday (May 24).

The 30-year-old actress and her boyfriend, Google program manager Dan Fredinburg, were spotted leaving an office building before heading to a hair salon. The "One Tree Hill" star has reportedly been dating the 31-year-old hunk for a few months. They were photographed getting cozy at the Coachella Music Festival last month.

But although she is happy with Fredinburg, Bush is apparently not so happy with the dozens of paparazzi who have been following them around.

"Being chased around La today by 5 carloads of these guys. Dudes. I am picking up juice and getting a haircut. This is not news. Perhaps focus on something interesting instead?" she wrote on Instagram May 24, posting a photo of the culprits. And please stop running red lights to stay on my tail. #SafetyFirst #ImRunningBoringErrands #NothingToSeeHere."

Remembering 'St. Elsewhere' 25 Years Later

May 25, 1988 marked the final episode of NBC's "St. Elsewhere."

Although the TV world is now overflowing with medical dramas like "Grey's Anatomy" and "House M.D.," "St. Elsewhere" -- starring Howie Mandel, William Daniels, Denzel Washington, Ed Begley Jr. and more -- was one of the first. Additionally, it kick-started Oscar winner Denzel Washington's career.

The "St. Elsewhere" finale was the first big "it was all just a dream" finale, ending with the revelation that St. Eligius hospital and its staff were all the creations of an autistic and took place inside a snowglobe. Although it enraged fans at the time, it's now one of the most spoofed finales ever.

Photos: Suit May Give Thrill-Seekers 'Iron Man' Skills

Tony Stark may be a fictional character, but not everything in the "Iron Man" films is completely outside the realm of possibility.

At least that much has been demonstrated by Solar System Express (Sol-x) and Juxtopia LLC, two tech startups that have collaborated to create a real-life "Iron Man" suit, which could be used for skydiving from space. Wow.

Scroll Down For Photos

Conceived in 2011, the Rl Mark VI Space Diving suit would allow thrill-seekers to skydive from up to 62 miles above the earth's surface -- around the edge of space -- and land safely, using thrusters instead of a parachute.

Blaze Sanders, Cto of Sol-x, told The Huffington Post that the idea to devise a suit capable of such feats was developed after hearing about the Red Bull Stratos mission, which aimed to break the world record for highest skydive. (Skydiver Felix Baumgartner went on to complete the 128,100-foot »

Watch: Why Tyler Perry Says 'I'm Not Supposed To Be Alive'

Before he became a Hollywood mogul, Tyler Perry endured a childhood that he says was wrought with violence. Physically abused by his father and sexually molested by other adults, Tyler was able to transcend his horrific childhood by writing stories -- and now, he lives in a Beverly Hills mansion on a mountaintop. But, Tyler says, that's not the way his life was supposed to turn out.

In this clip from Tyler's appearance on "Oprah's Next Chapter," the one-man-entertainment machine confesses that his traumatic childhood and boyhood struggles should have set him down a very different path, a path that many young people have followed after experiencing the same injustices Tyler did.

"Statistics say that I'm supposed to be in jail," Tyler says matter-of-factly. "And I'm not supposed to be alive."

It may be hard to imagine now, given Tyler's success, but even when he was a young boy, Tyler »

Amanda Bynes is speaking out after her May 23 arrest.

The troubled 27-year-old took to Twitter after being released from custody on Friday, saying she doesn't "drink or do drugs." Bynes was arrested and taken to Roosevelt Hospital to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before heading to a Midtown precinct to be processed after allegedly throwing a bong out of the window of her West 47th Street apartment.

The former Nickelodeon star showed off her chopped hair in her mugshot photo, which made the rounds yesterday. In the picture, Bynes can be seen wearing a black sweatshirt and a scowl as she poses for police.

She took to Twitter last night to share her thoughts on her arrest and startling mug, tweeting:

I only smoke tobacco I don't drink or do drugs. I've never had a bong in my life! I need to get another nose job after seeing my mugshot! :D »
