Watch: 'The Lone Ranger' Rides During Super Bowl

3 February 2013 3:53 PM, PST

A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty Hi-Yo Silver: The new "Lone Ranger" trailer has arrived.

Disney debuted the latest "Lone Ranger" trailer during Super Bowl Xlvii. For those keeping score at home, it's the third "Lone Ranger" trailer the studio has released since last year.

Despite a hefty price tag (upwards of $250 million), Disney is expecting "The Lone Ranger" to be one of it's biggest 2013 releases. The film stars Johnny Depp as Tonto and Armie Hammer as the title ranger. Gore Verbinski, who worked with Depp on the first three "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, is the director.

"It's a dysfunctional buddy movie," Verbinski told USA Today last year. "It's two guys who start literally and figuratively handcuffed together who end up on the same mission with completely different world views. They sort of rub off on one another. But they have plenty of disagreements. »

Sandy Hook Choir & Jennifer Hudson Stun At Super Bowl

3 February 2013 3:46 PM, PST

The Super Bowl got off to a touching start on Sunday as the Sandy Hook Elementary School Choir and Jennifer Hudson joined forces to sing "America the Beautiful."

The stirring rendition started off with just the children, who swayed in beat with the simple song. Eventually, Hudson took the stage and helped the young ones finish the song. Judging by the reaction of a number of football players on the field, those in the stadium were certainly affected by the performance.

The AP has more on the planning of the performance:

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Thursday that the Grammy and Oscar-winning singer would join the Sandy Hook chorus. It features 26 children from the school in Newtown, Conn., where 20 first-graders and six adults were killed in a Dec. 14 shooting rampage.

The performance will be part of CBS's pre-game show before the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens, »

Alicia Keys Belts Out The Anthem

3 February 2013 3:43 PM, PST

So much has been said about Beyonce's inaugural lip-syncing that Alicia Keys' prep work was all but ignored. But on Sunday, Keys made good on her earlier promises to deliver an all-new version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" when she sang the national anthem at the Super Bowl.

Keys' rendition was powerful and moving -- and she didn't have any problems singing the lyrics as they're written. That's more than can be said for Christina Aguilera, who infamously goofed when she performed the song at the 2011 Super Bowl.

Keys sat at a piano as images of American soldiers overseas were inter-spliced with footage of her performance and emotional athletes.

"I'm really excited about it, I can't even lie," Keys said in advance of Sunday's performance. "I have to rehearse it totally, as if it's a brand-new song, because it is actually a brand new song in the style that I'll deliver it. »

Watch: 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Gets Super Super Bowl Trailer

3 February 2013 2:17 PM, PST

Directed by Abrams, "Star Trek Into Darkness" returns the principal cast of "Star Trek" -- Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban and Zoe Saldana -- while adding Alice Eve and Benedict Cumberbatch to the proceedings. Cumberbatch is playing the "Star Trek Into Darkness" villain, who may be Khan or Robert April or Gary Mitchell or John Harrison. "Shall we begin?" Cumberbatch tells Pine's Captain Kirk during the trailer's crescendo.

Eva Longoria's Near Nip Slip

3 February 2013 1:49 PM, PST

Eva Longoria risked having a little wardrobe malfunction last night (Feb. 2) as she attended the SHe by Morton's restaurant opening in Las Vegas.

The 37-year-old almost spilled out of her little black dress while showing off her famous figure (and a bit of sideboob) on the red carpet. The form-fitting frock featured cutaway details, which had Longoria narrowly avoiding a nip slip.

Just arrived in Vegas for the opening of @shelasvegas with @landryinc Gonna be a great night! #SHeGrandOpening

Eva Longoria (@EvaLongoria) February 3, 2013

Thankfully though, everything turned out fine and Eva looked incredible, as usual.

Journey Teams Up With Rascal Flatts

3 February 2013 12:56 PM, PST

New Orleans — Even before Journey and Rascal Flatts got on stage together for Cmt's Crossroads concert Super Bowl weekend, they were already in perfect harmony.

In an interview the day before the show, the bands joked around together, finished each other's sentences, hoped for a San Francisco 49ers victory, and talked about an as-yet unannounced plan to perform some dates together this summer.

"It has been fun," Rascal Flatts' Jay DeMarcus said Friday, a day before the band's Saturday concert. "We've got mutual respect for each other and also love all the music equally. So, when you get a bunch of creative people in a room that love what each other is about and what they do, it's very easy to get along."

Although Cmt Crossroads is known for pairing acts of different strokes, the union between Rascal Flatts and Journey started more organically than most. They performed together »

Super Bowl Ads To Look For

3 February 2013 12:03 PM, PST

New York (AP) — It's showtime.

While the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens battle each other on the field during Super Bowl Xlvii, advertisers will compete against each on advertising's biggest stage.

The stakes are high, with 30-second spots going for as much as $4 million this year. And more than more than 111 million viewers are expected to tune in.

About 28 of the 35-plus advertisers released ads early this year, trying to get a head start on capturing the buzz on social media sites. But early buzz is no guarantee viewers will remember your spot the day after the big game. And of course, some advertisers are waiting for Sunday night for the big reveal of their spots, including M&Ms, Chrysler, Oreo and BlackBerry.

"What we see on the night of the game is really important," said Kelly O'Keefe, professor at a professor, creative brand management, at the Virginia Commonwealth University Brandcenter. »

He's Back

3 February 2013 8:21 AM, PST

New Orleans — One of the most anticipated musical moments of the year so far happened in New Orleans and was connected to the Super Bowl – but it had nothing to do with Beyonce.

Instead, it was another superstar, Justin Timberlake, who had the town buzzing as he gave his first performance in nearly five years – a sizzling, hour-long concert that featured the nattily dressed entertainer with a more than 10-piece band and guest appearances by Timbaland and Jay-z, who's prominently featured on Timberlake's comeback single, "Suit and Tie."

Timberlake hadn't released new music in years, preferring to concentrate on a blossoming acting career that included star turns in movies such as "Friends With Benefits" and the Oscar-nominated "The Social Network."

But when Timberlake took to the stage on Saturday night for DirecTV's Super Bowl-eve bash, it seemed as if he had never left. Timberlake, dressed in a black tux, betrayed »

The 15-year-old took to Twitter to slam magazine editors for publishing such hateful stories about her family, posting over 20 tweets about how it should be illegal to print false rumors about a minor.

'Argo' Wins Big

3 February 2013 6:56 AM, PST

Los Angeles — Ben Affleck has won the top film honor from the Directors Guild of America for his CIA thriller "Argo," further sealing its status as best-picture front-runner at the Academy Awards.

Saturday's prize also normally would make Affleck a near shoo-in to win best-director at the Feb. 24 Oscars, since the Directors Guild recipient nearly always goes on to claim the same prize at Hollywood's biggest night.

But Affleck surprisingly missed out on an Oscar directing nomination, along with several other key favorites, including fellow Directors Guild contenders Kathryn Bigelow for "Zero Dark Thirty" and Tom Hooper for "Les Miserables."

Affleck's Oscar snub has not hurt "Argo" and may even have earned it some favor among awards voters as an underdog favorite. "Argo" has dominated other awards since the Oscar nominations.

Watch: Pop Idol Shaves Head To Apologize For Spending Night With Boyfriend

2 February 2013 5:47 PM, PST

A Japanese pop star has shaved her head in contrition after she was photographed leaving her boyfriend's apartment this week -- an act that reportedly went against the strict "no dating rule" enacted by the managers of her pop group.

The photographs of Minami Minegishi, a 20-year-old member of the juggernaut pop group AKB48, reportedly appeared in the most recent edition of a Japanese tabloid magazine. According to the Japan Daily Press, the pictures show the young woman -- disguised in a face mask and hat -- leaving the apartment of her boyfriend Alan Shirahama.

Within hours of the photo's publication, Minegishi took to YouTube to beg forgiveness for what she called her "thoughtless and immature" actions.
