The Super-Awesome, Astoundingly Mathematical Weekend Box Office Prediction for Twilight Saga: New Moon!

20 November 2009 7:49 PM, PST

Based on my top-secret, patented box office estimation formula, I hereby state that Twilight Saga: New Moon will gross $81 million over its first three days. No... wait, it will actually gross $91 million! It will definitely gross $81 million and/or $91 million! How do I know this? Simple. To paraphrase everyone's favorite fictional Spanish teacher, played by Dr. Ken Jeong, I am a box office genius! If you recall, I did a comparison chart of every single franchise launched in the last ten years. I listed every single one unless I'm forgetting a franchise or two and how their sequels did over opening weekend compared to the initial entries. Go there. Checked it out yet? Ok, welcome back. You'll notice that the biggest percentage jump for pure Fri-Sun stand-alone opening weekends... »

Behind The Filming Of One Of My Favorite Fantastic Mr. Fox Performances

20 November 2009 5:21 PM, PST

When you're making an animated film, one of the big differences is that you can add scenes, change dialogue and re-write as you're going along because you only shoot a little bit of the movie each day. Mr. and Mrs. Fox "on set" shooting a scene in the supermarket. So, with Fantastic Mr. Fox, about half-way through the shoot, I had this idea for a scene between the two characters played by Jason Schwartzman and my brother, Eric Anderson. I thought one place to start was with something I grew up with: bunk beds. My initial sketches for how the scene in Ash's (Jason Schwartzman's character) bedroom would be shot and acted In this case, Jason Schwartzman's character does not allow the bunk beds to serve their usual purpose of sleeping two. So, his foreign cousin is forced to sleep underneath... »

"Bad Moon Rising": My Playlist For All You Suckers Waiting On Line To See The Twilight Saga: New Moon

20 November 2009 4:23 PM, PST

I will be rushing out to see The Twilight Saga: New Moon, just as soon as I finish seeing every other film ever made first -- and Zombieland twice. Fortunately, as the father of two sons, absolutely no one is asking me to see New Moon, which I consider my richly deserved spiritual payback for sitting through all of those interminable Pokémon movies - each of which seemed to last as long as Shoah. And so for those out there waiting in some bloody line, here's my moon-themed playlist for you: Bad Moon Rising - Creedence Clearwater Revival Everyone's Gone To The Moon - Jonathan King Song About The Moon - Paul Simon Fly Me To The Moon - Frank Sinatra C Moon - Paul McCartney The Moon's A Harsh Mistress - Jimmy Webb Here Comes The Moon - George Harrison Shoot The Moon - Emitt Rhodes Moonshadow... »

Blake Lively Talks Lying Naked On Top Of Alan Arkin

20 November 2009 2:50 PM, PST

Blake Lively's next big screen role is a runaway drug-addled S&M video star who seeks refuge in the arms of a much older man in 'The Private Lives of Pippa Lee.' The 'Gossip Girl' star tells Parade magazine just what it was like lying naked on top of 75-year-old screen legend Alan Arkin. "Apparently naked, not fully naked," she explained. "I was lying partially naked on Alan Arkin, but strategic body parts were covered. It's always scary when you're in front of strangers half naked, but the fact that it was with Alan, honestly, didn't make it any weirder. I think being with a young dude would have been more awkward because I might have been like, 'Well, does he think I look cute right now?'" Blake also told the magazine about being dragged around on a dog leash... »

'Precious' Star Gabourey Sidibe: My First Diet Started At Age Six (Video)

20 November 2009 2:21 PM, PST

'Precious' star Gabourey Sidibe visited Oprah Friday to promote her movie, in which she plays an obese teenager who is twice impregnated by her HIV-positive father. Gabby's own Harlem adolescence was not nearly as troubled but she did struggle for years with her body image. Oprah pointed out that director Lee Daniels has said Gabby speaks "like a white girl from the Valley" and is so confident that she is "either in denial about her physicality or from another planet." "It's something I've had to work at. My first diet started when I was six years old," Gabby said. "I've never been a small girl. One day I had to sit down with myself and decide that I loved myself no matter what my body looked like and what other people thought about my body." She said that she was 21... »

New Moon Opening Night: Box Office Sales Go Wild, Advanced Tickets Help Break Records

20 November 2009 1:20 PM, PST

From all indications, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" was a major hit on its opening night, midnight on Friday, November 20, with great success at the box office including advanced ticket sales. Directed by Chris Weitz and based on a Stephenie Meyer novel, and prominently featuring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, "New Moon" is projected to have an $85 to $100 million opening weekend. The first Twilight film brought in $69.6 million its first days. According to online ticket seller MovieTickets.com, "New Moon" is the No. 1 Advance Ticket Seller of all time, surpassing "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith," which previously held the title. News organizations nationwide reported their local theatres selling out, with many camped out for hours to stake out their spot for the heavily-hyped midnight premiere. Before even hitting the screen, it was reported Thursday that more... »

OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder Making "All the Right Moves"

20 November 2009 1:16 PM, PST

OneRepublic frontman and songwriter Ryan Tedder has consciously followed the band's mega-hit record with a new sounding record that is more true to their self-perception as a band but may very well be everything that album's standout hit "Apologize" is not. That, as Al Franken may have said as Stuart Smalley, is "O-k." Tedder's a little nervous anyway. "You know it's funny I was thinking today "man, did I stab myself in back with that one?," he asked rhetorically in an interview last Friday from a New York pub. "But, I didn't want to do 'Apologize Part 2. Once I crack a code, it's not in my nature to go back." Even with a new sound, Tedder is confident the new album, which drops today, and is called "Waking Up" will offer something for everyone: ladies who swooned at every... »

James Franco's 'General Hospital' Debut: Watch (Video)

20 November 2009 1:06 PM, PST

Friday James Franco began his 'lengthy arc' on 'General Hospital,' in which he plays a vagrant performance artist named Franco who visits Port Charles to exhibit his work. The Hollywood A-lister's soap opera turn is all a meta part of some art film he's making with Carter, his frequent artistic collaborator who was responsible for the short 'Erased James Franco.' Below you can watch a clip from Franco's first 'Gh' appearance in which he lurks in the shadows, wearing fingerless gloves and eating a snack while watching the local mobsters shoot each other. Tune in to see what he does with the information he harbors. Watch: Get HuffPost Entertainment On Facebook and Twitter!... »

Karl Urban Talks Star Trek And Priest

20 November 2009 1:02 PM, PST

Karl Urban plays Bones in the reboot of the Star Trek franchise, and if you are anything like me, you think he was perfect for the role.  In his upcoming film, Priest, he plays Black Hat, a warrior/priest turned vampire.  Scuttlebutt says that it's going to be a bit different from the manhwa it's based on, but casting Urban means it has something going for it.  We got a chance to chat with Urban on the red carpet for the release of the Star Trek DVD/Blu-ray at Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, where he told us how he feels about being part of a legendary franchise, his character in Priest and how he keeps breaking his poor co-star Paul Bettany.   You get some of the best lines in Star Trek, but you didn't get to say one of the best ones,... »

Heidi Klum Debuts Hot Post-Baby Body (Photos)

20 November 2009 11:16 AM, PST

Heidi Klum stepped out on the runway at the Victoria's Secret fashion show Thursday night, just five weeks after giving birth to daughter Lou Samuel. This isn't her first post-baby public appearance. She showed off her thighs in fishnets and thigh-high boots when she dressed up as a crow for Halloween with husband Seal. Klum said on Wednesday that she still needs to lose 20 pounds, but she looks pretty good here in her runway corset, an Lbd she wore on the red carpet and a body-hugging leather dress she slipped into for the after party. Why I Love Thanksgiving

20 November 2009 10:37 AM, PST

Thanksgiving is a time of family. A time of reflection. A time of giving. And a time of stuffing. It is a time when a man or woman, sometimes a slightly intoxicated man or woman, crams their butter-coated hand into a turkey's butt. If this act were to be done to a live turkey, the person performing that act would immediately become famous, if they weren't already. They would be in all the headlines, on several talk shows, and asked questions like: "What were you thinking -- What was going through your head?" If there were video of this act, that person could instantly win ten thousand dollars on America's Funniest Home Videos. I don't mean to be crass. Technically, it's not actually the turkey's butt. It's more of his 'back hole' -- or... »

Mya On Dancing With The Stars And What She's Doing To Step Up Her Game

20 November 2009 10:14 AM, PST

Singer Mya has just entered the final three on Dancing with the Stars, along with Kelly Osbourne and Donny Osmund and she's thrilled to be a part of this group.  Mya was being honored at Us Weekly's Hot Hollywood party as one of the “Hot Steppers of the Year”, along with Osbourne.  (Poor Donny!  He didn't make the list.)  I grabbed a few moments of her time before she hit the celebration, and got her thoughts on the competition, the costumes, and having beds brought into the studio so she never has to leave.  By the way, she highly recommend this competition as a way to lose weight, but warns that you'll be covered in bruises.   Mya with dancing partner, Dmitry Chaplin. You've been a dancer for a long time, but this is a very different style of dancing.Heck yeah, it... »

What I Like (And Hate) About Sarah Palin

20 November 2009 9:42 AM, PST

Like many people outside of Alaska, the first I heard of Sarah Palin was back in August 2008, when John McCain announced her as his running mate. My first reaction: Smooth move, John. We wanted a woman in the Oval Office, now you might be giving us one. My second reaction: How sexist and condescending can you get. We can't have Hillary, so any old female will do? And my third: Dear Lord, please don't let this woman end up in the White House. So here's my confession: I was -- and still am -- an ardent Obama supporter. Politically speaking I'd say Sarah Palin and I are just about polar opposites. (You say, "Drill baby;" I say, "No blood for oil.") I shudder to imagine her holding a national political office. But, the thing is, well ... see, it's like... »

No Grinch will ruin Carrie Underwood's Holiday

20 November 2009 9:29 AM, PST

The Fox network is wishing you -- the home television viewer -- a very Carrie Christmas. And they're gift-wrapping two hours of entertainment in a special package titled Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special that will air December 7 (8-10 p.m. Et/Pt). Of course, Fox, the network that brings you American Idol, has the gift that keeps on giving with Underwood. The country vixen from Checotah, Oklahoma, who broke through to national fame by winning the fourth season of A.I., has reason to be in the holiday spirit. Her third album, Play On, was released November 3 (19 Recordings/Arista Nashville) and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and she's making all the talk show rounds this week, from Conan O'Brien on Monday to Ellen Degeneres (Wednesday) and Jimmy Kimmel (Thursday). Last week, she completed her second... »

Survivor: Samoa: Lord of the Gnats

20 November 2009 8:40 AM, PST

We are right at the midway point of Survivor: Samoa. We began with twenty players; we now have ten. Our early villains, Evil Russell, and idiot Shambles, have grown into heroic (seeming) crusaders against a true villain, Evil Laura, the Sarah Palin wanna-be conservative lobbyist co-ordinator and Christer pastor, who believes she's now running the show. We've seen two players sidelined by physical collapse: elderly obese Chef Mike, and athletic, bull-like Black Russell. We've seen a lot of puzzles solved and knots untied. And now-just-Russell has shown an amazing ability to find hidden immunity idols without a clue, which is good, because a lot of these contestants still have no clue. Russell sees himself as an artist of Survivor, as Picasso -- and like Picasso -- his work is difficult to make sense of, and doesn't resemble real life. Here's Russell... »

New Moon Reviews Flying In: Movie Critiqued Hours After Debut

20 November 2009 8:21 AM, PST

The first reviews of New Moon are in, and many aren't exactly flattering. Early reviews at Rotten Tomatoes give New Moon a 4.9 out of 10 on average, and just 29 percent of Approved Tomatometer Critics rated it positive. The early consensus from Rotten Tomatoes reads, "The Twilight Saga's second installment may satisfy hardcore fans of the series, but outsiders are likely to be turned off by its slow pace, relentlessly downcast tone, and excessive length." The first reviews are in line with the critics' first takes. Rogert Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times offered, "Since they know it all and we know all, sitting through this experience is like driving a pickup in low gear though a sullen sea of Brylcreem." Claudia Puig of USA Today added, "New Moon, the film version, does nothing to add depth to a shallow tale." Not all are down... »

Moose and Squirrel Celebrate Their 50th Anniversary

20 November 2009 7:41 AM, PST

This will be unreasonably brief and lacking in far too much detail, but sometimes things must be rushed and not overlooked, and today is one of those times. Today marks the 50th anniversary of one of the most beloved and still-appreciated cartoon shows, ever. Yes, on November 19, 1959, Rocky and Bullwinkle appeared in the first episode of Rocky and His Friends, from the maniacally clever mind of Jay Ward. The series was populated by Rocket J. Squirrel and his adorably dimwitted friend Bullwinkle the Moose from Frostbite Falls, Minnesota, along with their nemeses Boris Badanov (the name being a parody of the Russian regent and later subject of Mussorgsky's opera, Boris Godunov) and Natasha Fatale, Fearless Leader, and all manner of lunatics. Bullwinkle would appear in his own sketches as the clueless "Mr. Know-It-All" and also try... »

Director Roland Emmerich Give Us Something to Look Forward to in 2012

19 November 2009 6:53 PM, PST

Judging by a short conversation with him, director Roland Emmerich doesn't seem megalomaniacal. In fact, he seems so down-home and unassuming, that you just want to grab him, a beer -- being the good German that he is -- and sit in rapt attention as he tells how he destroyed the world -- again. You see, Emmerich is the great manipulator who has ravaged cities and continents thanks to the wonders of cinema. He destroyed New York via his remake of Godzilla and had world's capitals blasted through an alien invasion in Independence Day. The 54-year-old former painter and sculptor has ravaged this planet in other ways; he even had it frozen under sheets of ice when he produced and directed The Day After Tomorrow. But now he's gone all out shuffling all the continents into the oceans; in... »
