James Franco has no Idea if he’ll be in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

18 December 2012 11:35 PM, PST

You’d think someone would tell him, but nope. Here’s what Franco recently told MTV: I was going to be a small part of the next one. There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one. A lot of the human characters that were in the first movie were dead in the sequel that Rupert was going to direct. But there was one scene, between Caesar and my character, maybe even just like on a video that was left behind, but then a lot of things happened, like [former Fox co-chairman] Tom Rothman who was a big part of the first movie, left. Now Rupert’s not a part of it so I don’t know. My guess is I won’t be in it. Nobody’s talked to me since Rupert left. I’m sure Franco will be in the sequel. There’s no reason for him not to be. »

Eddie Redmayne Signs up for the Wachowskis’ Jupiter Ascending

18 December 2012 11:31 PM, PST

From the sounds of it, it’s more “Matrix” than “Cloud Atlas”. Hopefully. Redmayne, fresh off singing for his supper in “Les Miserable”, is joining Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in the sci-fi epic. Tatum will play a man named Django Wise and Kunis is playing a Russian immigrant named Jupiter. The plot goes something like this: In a universe where humans are near the bottom of the evolutionary ladder, a young destitute human woman is targeted for assassination by the Queen of the Universe because her very existence threatens to end the Queen’s reign. Definitely sounds like plenty of room for “Matrix”-style action. »

Mighty Morphin’ Power Pacific Rim Rangers

17 December 2012 1:21 PM, PST

Guillermo del Toro wishes his movie could be this cool. Someone out there decided that Guillermo del Toro’s monster mash sci-fi flick “Pacific Rim” looked a little bit like those mighty morphin’ Power Rangers of the ’80s and ’90s. (In fact, those damn Rangers are still around to these day, with new stars and new wacky color schemes, I’d imagine.) Result? Go go Power Pacific Rim Rangers! »

Full Teaser Trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness Menaces Online

17 December 2012 9:00 AM, PST

First full trailer. The previous was an “Announcement” teaser trailer. It beats the studio dragging out a teaser trailer for a couple of weeks with 5-second snippets, don’t you think? When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew. Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Alice Eve, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Peter Weller, »
