Opening Scene Storyboards For WB's Live-Action Akira Remake

9 September 2012 2:45 PM, PDT

For years Warner Bros. has unsuccessfully tried to adapt Katsuhiro Ohtomo's Akira for a Hollywood. Last we knew, Jaume Collet-Serra (Unknown) was set to direct, and Garrett Hedlund was to play the lead role of Kaneda and Twilight's Kristen Stewart was to play the female lead, Ky. Things fell apart as Warner Bros. wanted to give the film's $90 million budget another $20 million haircut. Since then the film has been put on the shelf indefinitely. But we can at least check out these storyboards created by Jeffrey Errico, and watch the video below in order to compare the two. Enjoy! Please keep in mind that these might not have been created for the Jaume Collet-Serra's version of Akira, as there was two director's attached to the project previously. Update: First Images from Hollywood Fan Film Batman Evolution

9 September 2012 11:16 AM, PDT

A Batman fan film titled Batman Evolution went into production in Hollywood last month. “What's the big deal,” you ask? “Fan films are being made all the time and they usually suck.” True, true, but few fan films can boast a Hollywood director behind the camera, a rogues gallery of thugs played by Hollywood’s premiere stunt team 87eleven (The Avengers, 300), and an actor playing Batman who also happens to have black belts in jujitsu, tae kwon do and ninjutsu. Yeah, that’s right. This fan film can claim an actor playing one of comicdom's greatest ninjas who is actually a ninja! Actor Eric Gable — first profiled right here on Cbm as my choice to play Iron Fist in a Marvel Studios production — not only stars in the short movie, but he also wrote it and choreographed all of the fight sequences. He also happens »

Brief "Logline" For The Lobo Movie Released

9 September 2012 6:50 AM, PDT

Thanks to itsonthegrid.com, we now have an idea of the plot for Warner Bros. currently in development Lobo movie. If their report is accurate, Lobo's first big screen outing won't be a space set adventure, but will see the infamous bounty hunter travel to Earth to hunt down some bad (well, badder) guys.. As you can see, it would also appear that Dwayne Johnson has officially signed on to play the part. »

Ben Affleck Reportedly Claims That He Was Never Asked To Direct Justice League

9 September 2012 6:44 AM, PDT

Not too long ago, fans finally had something to get excited about after Variety reported that Ben Affleck (The Town, Argo) was, "expected to discuss [Justice League] with studio brass in the coming days". Rival site Deadline were quick to call it out as being "bullshit" because, "Affleck’s reps stated that it was not going to happen with him." They too mentioned that he would consider a meeting, but it wasn't until Affleck took himself out of the running ("I'm not working on the Justice League. One of the problems with entertainment web sites is that they need to fill pages, and that’s how rumours get started. Justice League sounds really exciting, but it’s not something I’m working on.") that it seemed like those initial reports really were little more than "bullshit". Ben Affleck confirmed two things at the Toronto International Film Festival Saturday afternoon. He’s not »

Comics: Doug Mahnke Discusses The Introduction Of The First Arab-American Green Lantern

9 September 2012 5:55 AM, PDT

In a lengthy interview with Newsarama, Green Lantern artist Doug Mahnke talked in detail about Simon Baz's introduction in last week's #0 issue and also teased the character's future in the title and exactly why his costume design is so different to that of the other Green Lantern's from Earth. In the issue, Arab-American Simon Baz is a car thief who has spent most of his life being persecuted against after the events of September 11th. Arrested on suspicion of being a terrorist after stealing a van with a bomb in the back, he is detained and about to be tortured before being saved by the fused rings of Hal Jordan and Sinestro. It's a fantastic issue and I highly recommend checking it out. Below are just a few select excerpts from that chat, although you can read the full version by clicking on the link below. 9 September 2012 12:50 AM, PDT

Some time next month, wider promotional efforts can be expected for Iron Man 3, which is the beginning of Marvel's Phase 2 slate and first outing post-The Avengers box office behemoth. And while that marketing may kickoff with still photos and a trailer coinciding, until then, promo art may be all we have to look forward to. And featuring what's reportedly Tony Stark's Mark Xlvii armor, for which spoilerific details surfaced last week, I've now stumbled across new promo art for the anticipated Robert Downey Jr. starrer. #Moviefest round up - Iron Man 3 looking rock solid, golden suit looks way better in action and has a neat gimmick.— Jason Coburn (@jasoncoburn) September 8, 2012 #Moviefest round up - Ben Kingsley's Mandarin in Iron Man 3 seems cool, like a cross between Lo Pan and The Dude.— Jason Coburn (@jasoncoburn) September 8, 2012 Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” »

Recently, producer Jon Landau confirmed that director James Cameron is only currently working on two sequels to his box office smash Avatar, and that a fourth film won't be filmed around the same time as the other sequels. That's not to say that a fourth Avatar movie won't happen, however. While promoting the new collector's edition of Titanic, Cameron was asked by MTV News for an update on the sequels, which he is currently writing. He then reveals that he has an idea for a fourth movie in the series, which would be a prequel exploring "the early expeditions of Pandora". Editorial: Six Directors Who Should Be Considered For Doctor Strange

8 September 2012 9:15 AM, PDT

One of the projects that Marvel Studios have been developing for some time is Doctor Strange, which would explore the magical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Last year, we heard that screenwriters Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (who previously scripted the horrid 2011 remake of Conan The Barbarian) turned in a draft for the film adaptation, and Marvel were putting together a directors short list. However, we haven't heard any potential candidates beyond Hellboy's Guillermo del Toro (it's unlikely that he'll direct the project, at least any time soon). It's assumed that the Sorcerer Supreme will be getting his own film in Marvel's Phase Three, which will follow 2015's The Avengers 2. And just yesterday, we heard a rumor suggesting that Stephen Strange will make an appearance in next year's Thor: The Dark World. To bring Dr. Strange to the big screen in style, Marvel should hire a director »

Mark Millar Reveals Who He Would Like To See As 'Johnny Bolt' In Supercrooks

8 September 2012 8:54 AM, PDT

It's thought that Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes) will begin work on the big screen adaptation of Supercrooks at some point next year, so we're obviously still a good while away from any casting news. With a large ensemble cast, it should be Very interesting to see who signs up for the various characters featured in the critically acclaimed Mark Millar and Leinil Yu series. Last night, Millar took to his Twitter account (@mrmarkmillar) to share his thoughts on who he thinks should play 'Johnny Bolt', the leader of the gang who pull off the thrilling heist. As you can see, this is just speculation on the Millar's part, but after two successful adaptations - Wanted, Kick-Ass - and more on the way, the writer definitely wouldn't struggle to attract big names like this. Ryan Reynolds should play johnny bolt in our supercrooks movie. He'd be perfect for it. Such a likeable actor. »

8 September 2012 5:38 AM, PDT

Interview conducted by and copyright Edward Gross There was no escaping Chris Hemsworth in movie theatres this year! The 29-year-old Australian actor appeared on screen in no less than four movies, beginning with the horror film with a twist, The Cabin In The Woods on April 13th; his reprisal of the God of Thunder, Thor, in The Avengers on May 3rd; co-starring with Kristen Stewart in Snow White And The Huntsman on June 1st, and defending America from invading forces in the remake of Red Dawn on November 2nd. “It’s interesting,” says Hemsworth in an exclusive interview that was conducted prior to the films' release, “because I’ve probably been in this industry — in Australia and here — for 10 or 11 years, and the last two years have been incredibly busier. Each project has kind of been finishing and before I’ve finished shooting, I’m prepping the next one. But »
