Andrew Garfield Looks Back On The Amazing Spider-man Movies As Being "Like A Prison"

Despite being careful not to talk too much about the behind the scenes issues which plagued both of The Amazing Spider-Man movies, Andrew Garfield continues to reflect on his experience working on those movies, and it really doesn't sound good. In a recent interview with The Playlist to discuss 99 Homes, the British actor discussed the challenges which come with making a movie studio bosses want to ensure has mass appeal. "The pressure to get it right, to please everyone… it's not going to happen...You end up pleasing no one, or everyone just a little bit. Like, ‘Eh, that was good.’ [The films are] mass-marketed, like ‘We want 50-year-old white men to love it, gay teenagers to love it, bigot homophobes in Middle America to love it, 11-year-old girls to love it.’ That's canning Coke."  That a very honest and damning way to talk about the movies, and Garfield went on to »

Oscar Isaac Says Portraying X-men: Apocalypse Villain Is "Basically Playing God"

20th Century Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse is among the many 2016 comic book movies that have recently wrapped principal photography. So, when The Playlist and Paste Magazine caught up with Oscar Isaac in anticipation of his new HBO series Show Me a Hero, the sites asked the Guatemalan actor about his titular supervillain role in the mutant ensemble. "You use different tools, different approaches," said Isaac, when The Playlist asked what he learned from portraying Apocalypse in the upcoming X-Men sequel. "...It was great because there’s an embodiment of such big ideas, you’re not working in the realm of naturalism. And just because something's natural doesn’t mean that it's interesting — and I think Kubrick knew that very well. Sometimes it’s fun to push performance into other places that is not just about the same kind of verité thing. You can go to heightened places in a Greek tragedy »

Kevin Feige And Marvel Studios Break Free Of Marvel And Will Now Report Directly To Disney

Since the release of Iron Man in 2008, Marvel Studios has operated under Marvel Entertainment CEO Isaac "Ike" Perlmutter. However, after what The Hollywood Reporter's sources describe as "several years of frustration," Kevin Feige will now report directly to Disney boss Alan Horn. This is no rumour either, as a Disney spokesperson confirmed the behind the scenes shift in a statement earlier today. "Marvel Studios is taking the next logical step in its integration with The Walt Disney Studios, joining Pixar and Lucasfilm in centralizing many of its film-related functions in Burbank, with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and co-president Louis D’Esposito continuing to lead the Marvel Studios team reporting to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn." Tales of just how frugal Perlmutter is are legendary, and as the Marvel Cinematic Universe gets bigger and bigger, it could be that Feige has finally had enough of those kinds of restrictions. »

Michael Shannon Seemingly Confirms 'Doomsday' Will Appear In Batman v Superman

Earlier this month, Michael Shannon told a funny story about getting trapped in a toilet on the set of Batman v Superman because he had "flippers" over his hands. This obviously led to speculation that he must be taking on a motion capture role as Doomsday (as has been rumoured), but the actor is now doing some pretty unconvincing damage control! "I wasn’t there," he claims in an interview with The Daily Beast. "It’s a really awkward situation—I’m in the trailer for a movie that I didn’t work on." Shannon still hasn't seen the trailer, so obviously isn't aware of the fact we've all seen him in the movie; he must have been on set to shoot those scenes as a corpse after all.  Instead, the actor has come up with a ludicrous claim (likely fed to him by the studio) that he does appear, »

Intriguing Wonder Woman Filming Location, Working Title And Cinematographer Revealed

Therefore, Warner Bros. is now readying production on Wonder Woman, which is the fourth movie of the studio's DC Extended Universe. The Patty Jenkins-directed adaptation is scheduled to shoot primarily in London this fall, but new developments have revealed a secondary filming location as well as the director of photography. According to Meet The Movie Press, Hoyte Van Hoytema will serve as the director of photography on Wonder Woman. The Dutch-Swedish cinematographer is best known for his work on Academy Award-winning films Interstellar, Her, as well as The Fighter, and he just recently wrapped on Spectre. Meanwhile, Askanews is reporting (via Yahoo) that Wonder Woman will eventually shoot scenes in Basilicata, Italy, in addition to the U.K.. The Gal Gadot-starring movie, which is said to »

Spoilers: 'Batman' And 'The Joker' Return To The Set Of Suicide Squad In New Photos And Video

Suicide Squad has finished principal photography (Jared Leto has even shed his green hair for a cool new shade of red), but the stunt team is still hard at work as Batman, The Joker, and Harley Quinn have all been spotted in Toronto. They were shooting what looks like the end of that action sequence we got photos and videos for earlier this year, so there are obviously some spoilers here! As the site describes it, "Batman breaks through the top of The Joker's car, as The Joker and Harley Quinn sit inside. As the car goes plunging into the water, Batman repels off just in time."   These will likely be the last set photos we see for Suicide Squad, and it's almost a shame that they contain what appears to be a pretty major reveal. Of course, we don't really know how this whole sequence fits into the movie, »

The Flash Casts 'Zoom' For Season 2 With A Surprising Twist; Suit Details Also Revealed

The mystery surrouding the Reverse-Flash made up a large chunk of The Flash's first season, and it sounds as if we'll all soon be arguing and debating the identity of Zoom as well. Variety reveals that Candyman star Tony Todd has been cast as the voice of Zoom and will make his first appearance in the second episode (titled "Flash of Two Worlds"). "Last year, with the Reverse-Flash, we just modulated Tom Cavanagh’s voice, and this year we wanted to do something a little bit different," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg tells the trade. "Part of the mystery of the season is who or what is underneath the Zoom outfit, and so we wanted to do something like James Earl Jones as Darth Vader — this iconic voice coming out of this mask. Last year, we thought of the Reverse-Flash as a speed warrior; this year, Zoom is like a speed demon, »

Possible Details On 'Spider-Man''s Captain America: Civil War Tech

For various reasons, Marvel's Captain America: Civil War movie will only be loosely based on Mark Millar's source material, but there will still be certain elements that are sure to carry over. One such element many fans have been hoping for was Spider-Man's awesome Iron Spider costume that Tony Stark makes for him in the comics - but those fans might be in for some disappointment. According to Latino Review, the Iron Spider armor won't be making an appearance - but Stark will be responsible for creating Peter Parker's web shooters! Apparently when Parker is first introduced he'll be crawling around the city in that home-made costume we've heard about, but later on in the movie Iron Man offers him an upgrade, starting with some souped up webbing and the promise of more "hero ready" suits. In the comics Spidey ditches Stark's tech when he switches sides and joins Cap's team, »

First Look At 'Lucy Lane' In Supergirl; Will We See 'General Lane' In A Future Episode?

American Horror Story star Jenna Dewan-Tatum will play Lucy Lane in Supergirl, and in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Ali Adler shed some light on what we should expect from this version of the character. "We hope to explore the history that Lucy has with James Olsen—or, as Lucy knows him, Jimmy Olsen," she reveals. "I think we’re going to bring in her father. She not plays a romantic foil with whatever Kara and James are brewing, but people will also be surprised that she’s really a woman’s woman. She and Kara develop their own friendship, too. We’re not just bringing her in to purposefully create tension. She serves a larger story drive." The fact that Lucy is going to be more than just part of a love triangle is very good news, while the arrival of General Sam Lane should also »

Arrow Season 4: New Details On 'Damien Darhk' And Star City Transformation

In the season three premiere of Arrow, Ray Palmer revealed plans to rebrand Starling City as Star City. It was a plot thread which appeared to be dropped fairly early on, but could his apparent death have led to the change? One thing that's for sure is that it won't be Damien Darhk's doing according to TV Line (I don't think any of us thought it would be, but they confirmed the fact in response to a reader's question. However, he will still be casting a pretty long shadow over Oliver's rebranded home. "He’s very different from our previous Big Bads in that he’s not hiding in the shadows," Marc Guggenheim explains. "But at the same time, he doesn’t have a public persona." Just because Darhk likes to stick to the shadows doens't mean he won't be making his presence felt in season four of Arrow though, »

Arrow Season 4 Production Art Drops A Major Green Lantern Hint

There were a lot of apparent nods to Hal Jordan throughout season one of The Flash and season three of Arrow, but it's since been denied that he's going to be arriving in the latter, despite the fact that Oliver Queen will be spending time in Coast City when the show returns. If anything, this piece of production art makes his arrival seem even less likely as it borrows from Green Lantern's classic mantra. Of course, if we do meet Hal in the flashbacks, he's likely years away from getting that ring and going to Oa, so this would be a pretty cool background piece which pays homage to the comics. Do you think we'll see Hal make an appearance in season four of Arrow or were those Easter Eggs just meaningless? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts and theories in the usual place.  »

Potential Thor: Ragnarok And Captain Marvel Shooting Location Revealed

31 August 2015 5:56 AM, PDT

Now that filming for Captain America: Civil War can be marked off of Marvel's to-do list, and production on Doctor Strange is gearing up for a November start date, the studio will soon focus attention on its third "Phase Three" movie, Thor: Ragnarok. There is no director yet attached, nor has there been any casting news beyond the actors expected to reprise their Asgardian roles. However, Chris Hemsworth's fifth turn as the God of Thunder may already have a filming location. According to Yahoo7 News, Disney has been so pleased with shooting Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in Australia, that they are now considering bringing both Thor: Ragnarok and Captain Marvel to the Oceanian country. “They were also able to work across a lot of different locations which has saved them scouting for the Marvel movie,” said the source. Andrew Garfield Talks The Amazing Spider-man Franchise: "I Couldn't Rescue Those Films"

30 August 2015 8:10 PM, PDT

Promoting his new movie 99 Homes, Andrew Garfield has inevitably been asked a lot about the time he spent playing Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise (he recently revealed whether or not Marvel Studios asked him to reprise the role). In this latest interview, the British actor was quizzed about what he learned from being Spider-Man, and his response is very telling, especially when he touches on what went wrong with them. You can tell he's being careful with what he says - he likely doesn't want his career going the same way as Josh Trank's - but it doesn't sound as if Garfield was any happier with how The Amazing Spider-Man 2 turned out than fans!    Well, nothing, because I was never Spider-Man. Because Spider-Man's a fictional character. He's not real. [laughs] You know what's funny, to give you the vulnerable answer, I thought I was going to be Spider-Man, »
