The Divergent Series: Allegiant is Now Filming

The "Divergent" franchise hasn't been as big of a hit as Lionsgate has been hoping for, with the last installment grossing only $274 million worldwide on a budget of $110 million. It's clear that the studio doesn't have a lot of confidence in the series, as shown in the announcement about starting production on "The Divergent Series: Allegiant - Part 1," which is the third installment. Lionsgate will not film "Allegiant - Part 1" and "Allegiant - Part 2" simultaneously, but instead will wait to see how the first part performs. "Allegiant - Part 1" is set to hit theaters on March 18th, 2016. "Allegiant - Part 2" will follow a year later on March 24th, 2017. »

Transformers Sequels and Spin-Offs Get Impressive Writing Team

It was recently announced that Paramount Pictures, as well as Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo di Bonaventura selected Akiva Goldsman to head a "writers room" in charge of developing "Transformers" sequels and spin-offs. Deadline is now reporting on who is part of this "writers room" and they are some of the biggest names in sci-fi. The list includes Robert Kirkman ("Walking Dead" creator), Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), Zak Penn (Pacific Rim 2), and Jeff Pinkner (Amazing Spider-Man 2, "Lost"). More writers are expected to be added. The "Transformers" franchise is a top priority for Paramount. The last two installments broke the $1 billion mark at box office. »

Independence Day 2 Takes Place 15 Years Later, Same Aliens Return

The upcoming "Independence Day" sequel is currently filming. Vivica A. Fox is reprising her role as Jasmine Dubrow and has now unveiled the new film will take place 15 years after the original and will feature the same aliens. Heath Ledger Was Set to Star in Mad Max: Fury Road

When "Mad Max: Fury Road" was first announced in 2001, Mel Gibson was in talks to reprise his role. But then 9/11 happened and Gibson had a heavily publicized meltdown. When the project got back on its feet, it was time to recast. During a new interview, director George Miller, who directed Gibson in the original films, revealed that before Tom Hardy was hired to play Max, there was a different actor being considered. "Every time Heath [Ledger] would come through Sydney, he'd call in and we'd chat about Max," Miller told The Daily Beast. Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher 2 Hires The Last Samurai Director

Paramount Pictures is in talks with director Ed Zwick and writer Marshall Herskovitz, who previously worked with Tom Cruise on "The Last Samurai," for Cruise's upcoming "Jack Reacher" sequel. The original film was released in 2012 and went on to gross $218 million on a budget of $60 million. The franchise is based on Lee Child's novel series. The sequel will focus on the "Never Go Back" book that was published in 2013. In the book, Reacher heads back to his old military base in Virginia to take a woman to dinner who is now the commanding officer. By the time he gets there, she has been arrested, and Reacher finds himself being charged with pummeling one guy and fathering a child with a woman. He can't remember either transgression but gets to the bottom of it with cunning and sometimes brute force. »

Sony Pictures just unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming "Pixels" action comedy, starring Adam Sandler, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad and Kevin James. Check it out below. In the movie, aliens attack earth after they get a look at some old video games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war. Desperate to defend his country, the President (James) turns to his childhood friends for help. Sandler plays the President's friend, who's a former arcade champion. Dinklage is Sandler's former video game rival. Gad is a conspiracy theory-obsessed genius, and Monaghan is Sandler's love interest who is also a military weapons expert. George Miller Unveils Title of Mad Max: Fury Road Sequel

Even though "Mad Max: Fury Road" couldn't beat "Pitch Perfect 2" in theaters, the film still managed to gross $110 million worldwide during its opening weekend. It also has an almost perfect RottenTomatoes fresh rating. This is why it's no surprise that Warner Bros is moving forward with another installment. In a new interview, director George Miller revealed the status of the sequel. "We've got one screenplay and a novella," he explained. "It happened because with the delays [on 'Mad Max: Fury Road'], and writing all the backstories, they just expanded." Several years ago, Miller was speaking about the sequel, stating that it will be called "Mad Max: Furiosa." Apparently things have changed, since he now says the sequel will be called "Mad Max: The Wasteland." »

The Joker is Insane in New Suicide Squad Set Photos

First Look at Mark Wahlberg in Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster Film

Lionsgate has announced that filming of "Deepwater Horizon" has started in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition to the announcement, the studio unveiled the first photo from the movie, giving us a look at Mark Wahlberg as real-life hero Mike Williams. Check it out below. Dwayne Johnson Confirms Return for Fast and Furious 8 and Spin-Off Talks

Pitch Perfect 2 Dominates at Box Office, Easily Beats Mad Max: Fury Road

Everyone thought that the weekend would go to the $150 million "Mad Max: Fury Road," but "Pitch Perfect" sequel surprised insiders by grossing a whopping $70 million at the domestic box office, beating "Fury Road" for the top spot. "Pitch Perfect 2" cost only $29 million. When international numbers are included, the new movie opened to $108.4 million, which is more than three times its budget and just shy of the $115 million earned in total by the original movie. The sequel has a 69% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes. "Mad Max: Fury Road" had to settle for second place with $44.4 million. With international numbers, the movie opened to an impressive $109.4 million. It will easily become profitable and has a stellar 98% fresh rating. Meanwhile, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" landed in third place with an additional $38.9 million to bring its worldwide total to $1.14 billion.
