Bai Reveals Results of Independent Political Advertising Report

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (Bai) has announced the publication of a research report on the issue of political advertising. Entitled 'Political Advertising: The regulatory Position and the Public View' the report was written by Dr. Kevin Rafter and was funded through the Bai's Media Research Bursary Scheme. The research report examines the regulatory regimes governing political advertising in Ireland and abroad and presents findings from a specially commissioned Red C opinion poll on the subject. Currently paid political advertising is not permitted in Ireland. In the opinion poll research it emerged that 56% of people continue to oppose any change to existing legislation in respect of the prohibition on political parties with only 27% favouring a change. 52% oppose any change in respect of interest groups with 29% in favour. The report suggests that respondents might be more open to a change if limitations on spending and/or limitations on the broadcast period accompany liberalisation. »

'A Shine of Rainbows' is an award winner at the Heartland Film Festival and the Chicago International Children's Film Festival; Ireland's Japanese Film Festival continues its tour of Irish cities and the Waterford Film Festival winners are announced. The Irish/Canadian co-production, 'A Shine of Rainbows' has won the Audience Award at the Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana, where it received its U.S. premiere and also won first prize in the category of English Language Feature Film at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival... »
Terry Loane Casts 'This Beautiful Fantastic'

Ifta nominated Irish director Terry Loane (Mickybo and Me) is readying his latest project 'This Beautiful Fantastic', a film based on Simon Aboud's novel of the same name. Produced by Constance Media's Kami Naghdi (Boogie Woogie) 'This Beautiful Fantastic' tells the tale of an obsessively tidy children's author who falls in love with an erratic inventor – the story will be told like a classic fairytale and will star Tom Wilkinson (Valkyrie, Shakespeare in Love), Christopher Eccleston (Amelia, The Others), MacKenzie Crook (Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End, City of Ember), Joanna Lumley (Corpse Bride, Ella Enchanted) and Carey Mulligan (An Education, Public Enemies). »
Still Films Preps 'The Master, The Slave & the Bank Manager' Documentary

Still Films are currently in pre-production with their new project, a feature documentary called 'The Master, The Slave and the Bank Manager', that will examine a new move by the Ngo to protect Indian street children and their hard-earned, albeit meagre, wages. Directed by Tom Slater, the children featured in the documentary will include Madan, a hard working, drug addicted, sexually active 10 year old and 13 year old Rohit who thrives in his role as the world's youngest bank manager. »
Jim Sheridan to Attend Ifta Exclusive Preview of 'Brothers'

Six time Oscar® nominated Irish director Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father) will attend an exclusive Irish Film & Television Academy preview screening of his latest feature film 'Brothers' in Dublin on Thursday 19 November 2009. The acclaimed filmmaker will participate in a post screening Q&A with Ifta Academy Members. 'Brothers' tells the powerful story of two siblings, thirty-something Captain Sam Cahill (Tobey Maguire) and younger brother Tommy Cahill (Jake Gyllenhaal) who are polar opposites.
