Lionsgate shocks the horror world and reveals a finished 'Blair Witch' sequel at Comic-Con

You sneaky little so-and-sos. Lionsgate premiered Blair Witch, the new reboot of the 1999 horror classic, at Comic-Con earlier tonight, and they gave the exclusive news about the until-now-top-secret film to Entertainment Weekly. What I find amazing is that they’ve screened this film at least once for press and they managed to actually keep the secret until now. I know how embargoes work, and I know how people love to talk, so for Lionsgate to have pulled this off makes me believe once again that you can actually have and keep a secret in this business. Much like 10 Cloverfield Lane did earlier this year, this film snuck up on us while hiding in plain sight. It’s tough to keep the entire existence of a movie a secret, but keeping the nature of it a secret by telling everyone that it’s something else seems to be a workable game plan. »

'South Park 20': 20 big highlights from the awesome Comic Con panel

San Diego - Earlier this evening, I sat in on the packed Hall H panel for South Park's 20th season with creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, with Chris Hardwick serving as moderator. Here are 20 big highlights from the wildly-entertaining Q&A. 1. The creators of Pokemon Go basically stole their idea. "We did an episode called 'Chinpokomon' where the kids were just buying dolls, and the dolls had a chip in them that could track where the kids were and send all the info to Japan so that they could control America and bomb Pearl Harbor. I'm like, they ripped off our fucking thing!" 2. The studio wanted to make South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut PG-13. "The reason to do the movie was to make it R-rated. We had a big argument with the studio [because they wanted to make it] PG-13. And we're like, 'we're not doing PG-13.' Because you know, we do that on the show! »

Alan Tudyk revealed his ‘Moana’ character and gave us a sample of his voice performance

Alan Tudyk has become the John Ratzenberger of Disney Animation. (John Ratzenberger being the guy who has supplied his voice to every Pixar movie.) The Firefly alum has voiced a part in every Disney Animation film since Wreck-It Ralph. Next up for him: Moana, which comes out this November and features the House of Mouse’s first Polynesian princess. He won’t be singing in Moana (music in the film is by Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda). Still, his part did call for some unique stretching of vocal cords. Tudyk’s Moana character hasn’t been officially announced yet, but when I talked with him in the Comic-Con press room for upcoming NBC show Powerless, he revealed that he’s voicing a chicken named Hei Hei (the Maori word for ‘chicken’), along with two other characters. He said Hei-Hei is “one of the most fun roles I’ve ever done.” We assume it’s this crazed, »

Luke Cage: The Marvel/Netflix Series we make time for

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes and clips and puts it all in perspective. Many years ago, when I was in college, I made one of the most consequential decisions of my life. I quit X-Men. It was not an easy decision. I had read every single X-Men comic since I was nine years old. Back then, we had three X-Men books we need to follow if we wanted to keep track of the X-Universe: New Mutants, Uncanny X-Men and X-Factor. By the time I was in college, the number of X-titles had ballooned to a second X-Men series, X-Force, Generation X, Cable, Wolverine... the list went on. It got to the point where I said to myself: Can I really commit to my humanities classes if I'm too bogged down in X-Men lore? I could do both, but will I go outside? »

Who is Negan going to wack in The Walking Dead?

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes and clips and puts it all in perspective. The Walking Dead season 7 trailer was released at Comic-Con today, and it features new footage of comics standout King Ezekiel (and his poorly rendered tiger). But what we're most interested in is the conclusion of cliffhanger that many people found ridiculous: who is Negan going to kill? Since the producers don't want to give it away, most of the trailer depicts the bat Lucille (inanimate though she is) considering each kneeling character with an accompanying flashback. This story has taken too long to be horrifying anymore. At least the comic took us by surprise. We have all summer to picture each character getting beaten to death and Chris Hardwick helping us through it, so put us out of our misery already.   Here's who I think Negan's bat Lucille should »

'Rocky Horror' star Victoria Justice: 'The Nickelodeon chapter of my life has closed'

San Diego - For Victoria Justice and Ryan McCartan -- former child stars who hit Comic Con to promote their roles as Janet and Brad Majors in Kenny Ortega's remake of the randy cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show -- it's fair to say their family-friendly days are all but finished. "I think I can say with certainty now after doing this, the Nickelodeon chapter of my life has closed," Justice affirmed to a packed crowd at San Diego Comic Con on Thursday, where the remake's wildly entertaining first 25 minutes were screened prior to a Q&A that additionally featured Ortega, fellow cast members Christina Milian and Reeve Carney and original Rocky Horror executive producer Lou Adler. "Victoria, do you remember what I told you after the seduction scene?" Ortega interjected. "Say goodbye to Disney." "I remember when I screen tested I had to -- I was singing with a bunch of different. »

The annual circus that is a sea of people wearing their fandom on their sleeves, massive advertising campaigns everywhere you look, and so many opportunities to geek out is well under way. The first full day of San Diego Comic-Con supplied plenty for fans to talk about. Among the most buzz-worthy: Valerian wowed the Sdcc crowd with newly unveiled footage, the stars and producers of Marvel/Netflix’s Luke Cage were there, and Seth Rogen screened his R-rated animated comedy, Sausage Party. HitFix’s Donna Dickens, Chris Eggertsen, and Emily Rome recap Thursday at Comic-Con in the video below. Stick with us here at HitFix for more coverage from Sdcc 2016! »

Live Blog: Will 'The Walking Dead' Comic-Con panel have hints about Negan's victim?

[1:00Pm Pdt] - Welcome to The Walking Dead San Diego Comic-Con panel at Hall H. As it goes with these things we are running behind but I will keep you posted as we go!! [1:05Pm Pdt] - Still waiting. The Walking Dead fan art is playing on the big screen while 'Thriller' fills the speakers. I'm at 34% battery and I've had nothing but coffee today. Let's Do This. [1:09Pm Pdt] - Here we go. The creators and directors are headed to the stage now.  [1:11Pm Pdt] - Chris Hardwick pulls no punches. Asks about Negan's victim. Robert Kirkman promises the wait will be worth it. I am skeptical. Scott M. Gimple says we'll see Carol and Morgan in the trailer. Trips over his words and calls Carol, Karen. It devolves into a bit where Karen is Carol's evil twin and Melissa McBride plays both. Karen wears an eyepatch obviously.  [1:16Pm Pdt] - Seeing images of the zombies from the new season. »

[12:03Pm Pdt] - The lights have dimmed and we're being reminded not to film anything, including the footage. So we're still not following the Star Wars Celebrations model of "Footage for everyone." Chris Hardwick is taking the stage to Huge applause.  [12:05Pm Pdt] - We're going to watch a trailer. I will explain as much as I can. [12:09Pm Pdt] - Nick is headed to Tijuana. 'Big Bang Theory': Producers reveal who will play Penny's mother, brother

On The Big Bang Theory, we’ve been introduced to many of the parents that make these characters so oddly lovable (or slightly warped). Now one last piece of that puzzle is finally being revealed. Katey Sagal, best known for her work on Sons of Anarchy and Married...with Children, has been cast as Penny’s (Kaley Cuoco) mother. “We are finally going to meet more of Penny’s family,” Ep Steve Molaro said at Comic-Con per EW. “We’re going to be meeting Penny’s mom and her brother in the first episode back. We’re super excited that Katey Sagal will be playing Penny’s mom.” In a weird twist, this re-unites Sagal and Cuoco as mother and daughter as the two teamed up on the ABC series 8 Simple Rules. Molaro also said that Jack McBrayer of 30 Rock fame has been cast as Penny’s brother. The Big Bang Theory »

Wonder Woman's looking colorful on her very first one-sheet

This is a Wonder Woman poster. It’s pretty much exactly what you’d want from a Wonder Woman poster, too. In the past 25 years, I’ve probably read 20 different drafts of Wonder Woman scripts developed by Warner Bros. The worst one I read started with Wonder Woman wearing a black leather Trinity outfit when she crashes the invisible jet and dies, only to have the outfit crawl off of her and go looking for the nearest person with Amazon DNA to make them the new Wonder Woman. The best of them was by Laeta Kalogridis and felt like a completely faithful take on the George Perez years of the comic, with Ares as the main villain. What became clear from reading those drafts was that Warner Bros. didn’t really want to make a faithful adaptation, because every time any writer (Joss Whedon’s was pretty damn faithful, too) got anywhere close, »

An up-close look at the colorful costumes of 'Wonder Woman'

We’re still almost a year away from Wonder Woman’s solo film, but her presence is everywhere at San Diego Comic-Con this year. 2016 is the 75th anniversary of Wonder Woman, and DC Comics has pulled out all the stops. From comics to television to film, it is the time of Diana Prince. The centerpiece of it all sits at the DC Booth on the Comic-Con show floor. Costumes from the set of Wonder Woman in all their detailed glory. Four of the main characters are represented. But why take photos when you can take glorified Gifs? Below, check out what the women of Themyscira (and Steve Trevor) wear when going into battle (or maybe their fashion is just super militia-inspired?). Thank goodness Paradise Island has discovered a color palette that isn't 'sepia-infused grit' since the first group photo was released! Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman:   Connie Nielsen as »

'Lights Out' is more than just a horror movie - but only if you want it to be

From its brilliantly effective trailers, Lights Out -- the new horror film from first-time feature director David F. Sandberg -- comes across as your standard-issue fright fest: supernatural spook, family in peril, jump scares from wall to wall. And yet the film plumbs deeper waters than expected through the character of Sophie (Maria Bello) and her shadow-dwelling "friend" Diana, who mutually represent a surprisingly potent, and unusually perceptive, metaphor about mental illness and its capacity to wreak havoc on generations of families. For a genre not historically known for its sensitive portrayals of psychological disorders, that counts as something of a minor triumph, and the filmmakers deserve credit for bringing added heft to what could have easily been a surface-level scare machine. The feature is a long way from Sandberg's original short film of the same name, which hit YouTube in 2014 and subsequently went viral before capturing the attention of producer Lawrence Grey, »

'BoJack Horseman' picked up for Season 4 at Netflix

The third season of BoJack Horseman has only been out on Netflix for a matter of hours, but there’s already good news for fans of the second most important talking horse in TV history (behind Mr. Ed, of course). BoJack has been renewed for Season 4. According to BoJack’s Twitter page, “guys. season 4... it's happening!” The message is accompanied by an image of BoJack amidst too many empty beer bottles and half-smoked cigarettes. The Annie Awards-nominated series stars Will Arnett as the title animal. It also features the voices of Amy Sedaris, Aaron Paul and Paul F. Tompkins. As for Season 3, HitFix’s Alan Sepinwall is a huge fan. He recently called it “one of the very best shows on television” noting that the show “has done an impressive job letting real celebrities play themselves in surprisingly self-deprecating ways.” No release date has been announced for Season 4, but the »

Lin-Manuel Miranda will tell the story of Alexander Hamilton on 'Drunk History'

Lin-Manuel Miranda may have left Hamilton but he's still not entirely done with the story. During Comedy Central's Drunk History panel at Comic-Con yesterday, Derek Waters announced that Miranda will be in season four to — surprise, surprise — drunkenly narrate the rivalry between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. Sure, it's not the same as getting a ticket to Hamilton but a drunk Miranda is sure to make things much funnier than the Broadway show. Comedy Central also announced an impressive roster of guest stars that will show up in the fourth season: Billie Joe Armstrong, Steve Berg, Rachel Bilson, Michael Cera, Josh Charles, Kat Dennings, Ben Folds, Dave Grohl, Tony Hale, Ed Helms, Thomas Middleditch, Elizabeth Olsen, Aubrey Plaza, Ronda Rousey, Liev Schreiber, Alia Shawkat, and Duncan Trussell. Season 4 premieres Tuesday, September 27 at 10:30. »

Watch new teasers for 'The Defenders,' 'Luke Cage,' 'Iron Fist'

Yesterday, Netflix basically owned Comic-Con by releasing a handful of new videos, from a Marvel sizzle reel reminding us of the greatness of Daredevil and Jessica Jones to a new trailer for Marvel's Luke Cage to even some quick teasers for Iron Fist and The Defenders. Oh yeah, and they announced that Daredevil was renewed for a third season.  Netflix had a lot of ground to cover during its first ever Marvel panel at Comic-Con but suffice to say, all of the news was exciting. First up, they debuted a Marvel sizzle reel, which you can view below: Next up was Marvel's Luke Cage, as Netflix debuted a new teaser — brilliantly featuring Wu-Tang Clan, of course, which further speaks to the importance of diversity in the series — to get audiences hyped for the series which premieres September 30: "Come As You Are" played in the teaser for The Defenders, which revealed the logo. »
