'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson looks back on 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2' and at his future

4 November 2012 12:00 PM, PST

On Saturday (November 3), I posted my video interview with "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" star Kristen Stewart, who discussed animalistic Vampire Bella, as well as her bond with co-star Mackenzie Foy.    For Sunday, it's on to Robert Pattinson, who appears for the fifth and final time as Edward Cullen. After four films of worrying about Bella's mortality and her future, this is a more easy-going Edward in the fifth movie. Yes, he's still got some pretty dramatic concerns in the form of the arrival of the fearsome Volturri, but he also gets to be a content husband »

Box Office: 'Wreck-it Ralph' scores $49 million to reach no. 1

4 November 2012 1:07 AM, PST

After a subpar year for Hollywood's major studios, moviegoers have decided there are a number of reasons to return to the multiplex.  The overall box office was up almost 40% over last weekend as "Wreck-it Ralph" scored with families and Denzel Washington's "Flight" reached a higher altitude than expected. Walt Disney Animation's "Wreck-it Ralph" pulled in an impressive $49.1 million in 3,752 theaters. The CG comedy featuring the voices of John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman also scored an important A Cinemascore which means good word of mouth should ensue. Barring any unexpected surprises, "Ralph" could gross even more than studio »

Kristen Stewart takes a 'Breaking Dawn' break for 'On the Road'

4 November 2012 12:26 AM, PDT

Hollywood - With "Breaking Dawn, Pt. 2" opening in theaters in less than two weeks, we're officially in the middle of a Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson media blitz.  Both actors recently finished their final "Twilight" press days on Thursday and Friday, but still have the big Nokia Theater premiere Nov. 14.  On Saturday night, however, Stewart took a break from answering the endless questions about Vampire Bella to help shine the light on Walter Salles' "On the Road" at the AFI Film Fest. An adaptation of Jack Kerouac's classic novel, "Road" features Stewart in a supporting role as Dean's love interest Marylou.  Garrett Hedlund plays »

Music Power Rankings: Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Britney Spears top the list

3 November 2012 11:00 PM, PDT

1. Taylor Swift: “Red” sells 1.2 million in its first week. It's the strongest opening frame since Eminem’s “The Eminem Show” 10 years ago. Can a duet between the two be far behind? 2. Blake Shelton: His win for Cma male vocalist of the year? A sure thing. His win for Cma Entertainer of the Year? A total shock—to him just as much as to anyone else. He is “The Voice.” 3. Bruce Springsteen: He proves himself a true son of New Jersey as he headlines a benefit for Hurricane Sandy along with Jon Bon Jovi, Billy Joel and that Englishman »

Recap: 'Saturday Night Live' - Louis C.K. and Fun.

3 November 2012 10:35 PM, PDT

I’ll be honest: I’m equally excited and terrified by the prospect of Louis C.K. hosting “Saturday Night Live” tonight. On one hand, “Louie” is one of the best, if not the flat-out best, series on television right now. But how much of that can possibly translate into the “SNL” format? Maybe if tonight’s episode is a 90-minute take on “Sad Mouse”, the short from the Bruno Mars episode, maybe “SNL” will achieve the tonality, visual flair, and emotion of a typical episode of “Louie”. Still, it’s best to treat both shows as separate beasts and see how Louis C.K. the actor/comedian, »

Disney's 'Paperman': an early favorite for the Best Animated Short Oscar?

3 November 2012 8:14 PM, PDT

The truth is something on the fringe is likely to win the Best Animated Short Oscar this year. "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore" over "La Luna," "The Lost Thing" over "Day & Night," "Logorama" over "A Matter of Loaf and Death," "The Danish Poet" over "The Little Matchgirl" -- it happens. A lot. That having been said, Disney's "Paperman," a delicate little love story that's greeting viewers of "Wreck-It Ralph" this weekend, is generating plenty of love and goodwill. It's a blend of hand-drawn 2D animation and 3D CG artwork. "The characters are modeled in CG and rendered »

Louis C.K.'s love letter to New York and 'Saturday Night Live'

3 November 2012 4:49 PM, PDT

I've been so tied up in my own little world this week, toiling away, working on this and that, closed up in the apartment for the most part (typical when you're at your busiest in this line of work -- and this has probably been the busiest week of the season for me), mainly aware of the horrors of Sandy via the news like most of you. Which is a trip. Out here, uptown, we're fine. We're lucky. Just a number of blocks this way or that, many people aren't. So I feel like I really need to take stock of »

Kristen Stewart may join Ben Affleck in 'Focus'

3 November 2012 4:30 PM, PDT

Kristen Stewart may be going from vampires to con men in the upcoming "Focus."   The actress is circling the con artist thriller which already stars Ben Affleck, reports Deadlne. The film centers on a con man who goes against hie better judgment when he takes an inexperienced newcomer (Stewart) under his wing, only to put them both in danger when he falls for her. "Focus" is from writer-directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the team behind "Crazy Stupid Love." It was initially slated to reunite "Crazy" co-stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, who both had scheduling conflicts. However, they'll soon be seen together »

'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' likely to exit from Cartoon Network

3 November 2012 2:59 PM, PDT

With Disney buying out Lucasfilm for some $4 billion, the future of the various "Star Wars" multimedia entities is largely up in the air. Besides the initial announcement of the upcoming theatrical film "Episode VII," the fate of ongoing video games, animated spin-offs, the planned live-action series, comic books and more are uncertain. However, there is some talk about the future of the acclaimed animated TV show "The Clone Wars." According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will finish out its current season on the Time Warner-owned Cartoon Network and then likely make a move to its new home on Disney Xd. It's not »

'Twilight' star Kristen Stewart discusses beating up Taylor Lautner in 'Breaking Dawn - Part 2'

3 November 2012 12:03 PM, PDT

On Friday (November 2) afternoon in Beverly Hills, I sat down with seven of the stars of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2," as well as director Bill Condon, to discuss the final installment of the blockbuster vampire franchise.   The interviews will be posted over the next two weeks leading up to the November 16 premiere, kicking off with Kristen Stewart, whose Bella has finally become the series' newest bloodsucker.   In the conversation, Stewart discusses her joy at getting to whale on co-star Taylor Lautner, the development of the initially animalistic Vampire Bella and her relationship with »

'Amour' leads the field of 2012 European Film Award nominees

3 November 2012 11:57 AM, PDT

The nominations for the 25th annual European Film Awards have been announced, and Michael Haneke's "Amour" led the way with six nominations. This could be the start of an awards roll-out for "Amour" that few are expecting (many still refrain from seriously considering it in the Best Picture race at the Oscars). Well, I suppose that streak would more accurately have begun with the Palme d'Or win in Cannes, but nevertheless, with a December release still to come and critics groups sure to spring for it, it's about to come on strong, I'm betting. Thomas Vinterberg's "The Hunt" and Steve McQueen's "Shame" »

'Boy Meets World' stars may return for new spin-off 'Girl Meets World'

3 November 2012 11:33 AM, PDT

The world of "Boy Meets World" is getting bigger.  Twelve years after the original series ended, The Disney Channel is reportedly developing a "Boy Meets World" sequel series called "Girl Meets World." The show will focus on the adventures of the pre-teen daughter of the original's Cory and Topanga. According to TVLine, "Boy" stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel are in talks with Disney to reprise their roles as high school sweethearts-turned-spouses Cory and Topanga.  "Boy Meets World" aired on ABC from 1993 to 2000. At the series' end, Savage was 20 years old, and Fisher was 19.  Savage has since appeared »

Movie power rankings: Casting rumors push 'Transformers 4' past 'Skyfall'

3 November 2012 10:50 AM, PDT

MIchael Bay's upcoming "Transformers 4" will have a mostly new cast (no more Shia Labeouf), but just who will play the human lead in the giant robot film? Rumors indicate that none other than "Ted" star Mark Wahlberg is being considered for the role. Wahlberg worked with Bay on the upcoming comedy "Pain and Gain." Although Bay says that the two are planning on collaborating on a different film, is there still a chance that Wahlberg will meet Optimus Prime, Megatron and the rest of the Cybertron gang? Only time will tell. Meanwhile, it's a juicy enough rumor to push "Transformers »

Box Office: 'Wreck-it-Ralph' wins the Friday level with $13.5 million

3 November 2012 10:13 AM, PDT

The New York Metropolitan area is the second largest moviegoing market after Southern California, so there was some concern that after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy earlier in the week that the box office could take a hit this weekend.  Somewhat surprisingly, that doesn't appear to be the case. Perhaps looking for some good laughs or inspired by the strong reviews, Walt Disney's "Wreck-it-Ralph" drew audiences to the local multiplex Friday opening with a superb $13.4 million.  The Disney Animation comedy could easily gross anywhere from $48-$50 million over the weekend which is right in line with "Tangled's" debut two years »

TV Ratings: ABC's 'Malibu Country' premiere tops NBC telethon, 'Undercover Boss' on Friday

3 November 2012 9:18 AM, PDT

Fast National ratings for Friday, November 2, 2012.   Is Tgif back on ABC?   The return of "Last Man Standing" and the series premiere of "Malibu Country" drew big numbers on Friday for ABC, dominating an 8 p.m. hour that included the return of "Undercover Boss" and NBC's "Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together." The comedies also helped "Shark Tank" build at 9 p.m. as ABC dominated Friday among young viewers.   CBS still led Friday overall, but it's clear ABC has something to build on here.   Meanwhile, it was another low week for "Fringe," but The CW's "Nikita" got a »

Interview: Jorge Garcia talks about his new 'Once Upon A Time' role

2 November 2012 10:30 PM, PDT

Though most people know Jorge Garcia from his role as the mostly lovable lottery winner Hurley on "Lost" (and others might recall him from "Becker" or "Alcatraz,"), the actor is taking a turn for the  mean on "Once Upon A Time" (Sun. 8:00 p.m. on ABC). As the giant who lives at the top of the beanstalk, he'll be facing off against Emma and Captain Hook, who hope to steal a magical compass from him that will transport them to Storybrooke. Will Taylor Swift's 'Red' enjoy another week atop the Billboard 200?

2 November 2012 10:10 PM, PDT

Taylor Swift keeps her room at the top of the charts next week as “Red” is poised to sell up to 340,000 copies on the Billboard 200. It’s unclear how much Hurricane Sandy hurt album sales, but Hits Daily Double postulates that Meek Mill, who has a strong Northeast fanbase, likely  ends up with lower sales than he would have had there been blue skies and no power outages.  Even so, he’s still a lock for No. 2 as “Dreams & Nightmares” will sell up to 180,000 units. In addition to rapper Mill, four other artists bow in the Top 10. »

Recap: 'Fringe' - 'An Origin Story'

2 November 2012 8:14 PM, PDT

“You don’t even know what you don’t know.” Thus sayeth a captured Observer to Peter Bishop in tonight’s episode of “Fringe”. But it also sounds like a showrunner talking to his or her audience, as well. Part of the fun in reviewing a show on a weekly basis is the opportunity to capture immediate reactions in real time. The downside, of course, is that you’re always operating with only part of the overall puzzle revealed at any given time. Just as Peter tries to assemble a cube that might deal a crippling blow to The Observers, those following along with the »
