"True Blood" recap (6.3): So Long, Fangtasia

1 July 2013 4:04 PM, PDT

Tags: True BloodTrue Blood recapsIMDb

Previously on True Blood, Alcide and Wereverly Hillbillies kidnapped Emma and beat up Sam and Lafayette, which  I didn’t mention in the last recap for Artistic Reasons, and not because I Forgot About It. Also, humanity passed some awfully Draconian anti-vampire laws, and all the vampires were like, shocked that anybody had a problem with them draining their precious bodily fluids.

This week begins at the Louisiana governor’s mansion, in dumb, pointless Baton Rouge. Eric is just about to murder the governor’s daughter, out of a mixture of hunger and vengeance, when she offers to tell him about her father’s experiments. Curious, Eric decides to take this meal to go and kidnaps her to Fangtasia. Pam and Tara are none too pleased with this decision, but Eric does that thing where he totally ignores their protests and orders them to pack their things, »

Watch now! Before "SNL," Kate McKinnon was a staffer at "Vag Magazine"

Back in 2010, we ran "Vag Magazine," a fabulous web series which follows a group of NYC hipsters who launch a fictional third wave feminist magazine. Our reviewer Grace Chu wrote:

The series stars Kate McKinnon from Logo’s The Big Gay Sketch Show as Bethany, one of the founders of Vag, whose ex-girlfriend Jaybird runs a rival feminist magazine, C--t. When your aggressive and bratty ex runs a competing magazine, things cannot and do not go well. The absurd antics of the scatterbrained editorial board and clueless staff only feed the mayhem. (One editor, Fennel, decides that feminine hygiene products are creations of the patriarchy and opts to sit on a bucket during “that time of the month” instead – even at staff meetings.)

In case you missed it the first time around, or weren't aware of the genius of Kate McKinnon, we've got all of the episodes for you right here. »

Cersei could get gay on "Game of Thrones"

1 July 2013 10:17 AM, PDT

With roughly 275 days until the premiere of Season 4, Game of Thrones fans have ample time to re-watch previous episodes, peruse fan fiction online, and, heck, even read the books.

While hooked by the many intricate plots and complex characters in Martin’s morally problematic (and therefore wonderfully delicious) universe, fans of “the sapphic persuasion” may wonder if their libidinal desires will ever be met on the screen. Sure, we have the gender-bending rainbow knight, Lady Brienne of Tarth; our butch in shining armor. And, yet, we know that Lady Brienne is head-over-heels in love with (the deceased) Lord Renly Baratheon, the raging homosexual claimant-king who was effing the Knight of the Flowers, and for whom Brienne blindly and passionately served in his knights guard. The series’s other butch-in-training, Lady Arya Stark of Winterfell, alas, is just a wee tomboy. For all the “gay” in »

"The Killing" recap (3.6): Eminent Domain

1 July 2013 8:29 AM, PDT

Tags: The KillingtelevisionTVTV recapsIMDb

When we last saw Danette Leeds, I thought for sure she was a goner. She had just discovered her daughter Kallie’s phone in Joe Mills’ possession, and he was looking mighty sinister standing there, wearing a towel in silhouette. She manages to slip away however and heads to the police station in search of Det. Linden. She is upset and all over the place, so the cop at the desk dismisses her as an ordinary drunk and tells her to sit down. Well, Danette is getting real goddamn tired of being told to sit down and shut up so she screams at the cop and is promptly arrested.

Linden and Holder are at the hospital attempting to question Angie, the young girl that escaped the clutches of the Pied Piper. She tells them that at first the man was nice. He asked her to get in the back, »

Good morning! Pride may be over, but we can still be proud year-round.

SyFy loves our use of #Gayliens so much, they used it in this Best Defiance moments countdown.

Juliet Rylance has been cast as a "possible love interest" for Kalinda on The Good Wife. She'll be playing "Holly, a whip-smart Assistant State’s Attorney who shares a past with Kalinda." Yay! I love Kalinda's GFs from the past.

I hope you have better friends than the girl who wrote this: How Not to be a Dick to Your Lesbian Friends.

Indiewire reports that Blue is the Warmest Color is "not likely" to enter the Oscar race this year because of when it will be released. By the next year when its eligible, it will have lost momentum for much-needed Oscar buzz. »

Exclusive: "Skins Fire" writer Jess Brittain on the strength of Naomi and Emily's love

1 July 2013 4:16 AM, PDT

The much-anticipated final series of Skins kicks off tonight on E4. Up first is Skins Fire, a two-episode story penned by Jess Britain that explores the 22-year-old world of Effy Stonem as she tries to navigate adult life in London. Fire also includes Lily Loveless and Kathryn Prescott as supporting characters. What are Naomi and Emily up to five years after we saw them in the final episode of series four? What can we expect for them, as individuals and as a couple, in these final two episodes? Jess was gracious enough to chat with me about the beloved characters, and about saying goodbye to a family legacy.

AfterEllen: What drew you to writing Effy's story for the final season, and what made you want to include Naomi and Emily in her story?

Jess Brittain: I guess it was a combination of reasons. »
