Time and again, there have been several adaptations of 'Devdas' which was made in several different languages and yet again, it is now Sudhir Mishra who has decided to re-tell the story in his own style.

Although it is believed that Mishra's adaptation is a mix of many films like Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam, Devdas and even has shades of William Shakespeare's 'Hamlet', it is set in contemporary times and will be a refreshing approach from what people may have seen of the classic. Salman Khans initiative on Republic Day impresses Pm Narendra Modi

Amitabh Bachchan expresses happiness over Padma Vibhushan honour

R Balki - Shoojit Sircar coax Amitabh Bachchan to sing the National Anthem

On Republic day, Amitabh Bachchan had double reason to celebrate. Not only had the Government Of India conferred the Padma Vibhushan on the super-iconic actor, the Big B's version of the national anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' went viral on the same day. Apparently, it was the persuasive powers of the two filmmakers R Balki and Shoojit Sircar that did the trick. Says a source, "Amitji didn't want to touch the sacrosanct anthem with his vocal chords. But Balki who repeatedly stretches Amitji's self-imposed boundaries insisted and even got Shoojit Sircar to shoot the anthem at Rabindranath Tagore's birth-place." The times they are a-changing. For better or for worse, we shall soon know. Pahlaj Nihalani the new chairperson of the Censor Board Of Film Certification (Cbfc) is adamant to clean up films, and make censorship a quick clean and unquestionable exercise in moral policing. Says Pahalji, "I am definitely going to change the way films are censored, so that once a film is given certificate there is no controversy or doubts about its credibility. There will accountability and no room for ambiguity in the censoring process." Pahlajji says the guidelines for censoring were not followed properly. Salim Khan turns down Padma Shri award

Well known screen writer and lyricist Salim Khan who recently was conferred with the Padma Shri, has apparently turned down the national honour that is India's fourth highest civilian award. The reason being stated by the veteran is that he deserves more than just a Padma Shri for his imminent contribution to the field of Indian cinema.

In a statement issued by Khan he is quoted as saying, that though he was prepared to accept the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Shri he has been awarded is just not enough. If that wasn't all, adding salt to his injury was the fact that his onetime partner Javed Akhtar received two Padma honours including the Padma Bhushan. »

Is Subhash Ghai yet to pay the dues of technicians for Kaanchi

The very name of 'Subhash Ghai' immediately commands respect of the highest order in Bollywood and elsewhere. But, recently, there were strong buzz in the media about this Showman not having paid a few technicians who had been involved in his last release Kaanchi, which failed to set the cash registers ringing at the Box Office.

Baby pre-empts the terror threats on Republic Day banned in Pakistan

With terror threats being issued ahead of President Obama's Republic Day visit to New Delhi, the sequence of events described in this week's big counter-terrorism film Baby seem ominously prophetic. In the film an apprehended but defiant terrorist warns, "Iss saal bahot saare diwaliyan hone wali hain (this year there will be lots of fireworks)."
