Its Akshay versus Akshay on Republic Day next year

Believe it or not, Neeraj Pandey's untitled film which is yet to go on the floors will be released simultaneously with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's production of Gabbar which too stars Akshay Kumar. Neither of the two big projects is willing to move out of the coveted January 23, 2015 slot. A source very close to Sanjay Bhansali says, "We decided that Gabbar is perfect as Republic Day release. We took a call on the release 3 months ago. Its theme is socio-political reform. It's the story of one man's crusade against corruption. Akshay, who has been doing a string of action-adventure entertainers, would be doing a film very relevant to the nation's conscience. And what better slot for this film than Republic day?" Livid at Neeraj's film "jumping in" out of the blue, the source close to Bhansali fumes, "They haven't even shot a single frame and they decided to barge »

17 April 2014 3:48 AM, PDT

The National award for Best Director for Hansal Mehta is huge vindication for this enormously talented director. On hearing the announcement of the honour Hansal said, "I am glad I won the National award for Shahid and not for any other film. Shahid has changed my life. Making this film about this fearless lawyer has made me fearless. I don't think about any external circumstance any more. I'll just make the films that I want to. My life is now sharply divided into two halves. What came before and what will come after Shahid." Hansal is doubly delighted that his leading man Rajkummar Rao won the National award for best actor for Shahid. "I feel my son has won the gold medal in the school sports. Sanjay Dutts flamboyant dinner exposed

17 April 2014 3:39 AM, PDT

A lengthy Mms clip showing Sanjay Dutt sozzled to the gills, fooling around at his home and talking unabashedly about certain people in the film industry, is going around discreetly among handpicked members of the film fraternity. The clip was shot when Dutt was out on parole the last time. It could cause considerable embarrassment for the incarcerated actor's family and for the actor himself. The clip was apparently shot when during his parole period Dutt invited three upcoming superstars (all star-sons incidentally) for dinner to his house. One of the three young stars, all self-confessed Dutt fans, shot the clip on his phone and has been sending it out to "selected" friends. Of course those selected friends have also been forwarding the clip to their selected friends....and so on. One of the actor's friends who has received the clip says, "It shows Sanju having a good time at a small dinner party. »

16 April 2014 5:49 AM, PDT

The endless will-he-won't-he speculation on Nawazuddin Siddiqui's presence in Rahul Dholakia's Raees can finally be put to permanent rest with the harried actor rubbishing the reports. Says the exasperated actor, "I am at a loss to understand where these reports came from! I was never offered Raees. So the question of accepting or not accepting the film doesn't arise. Someone in the media decided that I was part of the film. Then they decided I wasn't going to be part of it. All this drama is very distracting and embarrassing." Nawaz says he shares a terrific rapport with the Raees producer Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. "I did Talaash with them. And I was very happy with the outcome. I share a great relationship with them. I'd love to work with them again. In fact Excel (Farhan and Sidhwani's production company) did offer me another film which I »

Sharad Kelkar having hard time looking like Dhulias son

16 April 2014 5:08 AM, PDT

They are meant to be father and son in Nikhil Advani's remake of Subhash Ghai's Hero. But Tigmanshu Dhulia and television actor Sharad Kelkar are barely separated by ten years. Dhulia is now thinking of adding to his girth to look convincing. Says the director turned actor, "I have played a much older man than my age in Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Of Wasseypur. I'll again have to make an effort to look older because the actor who plays my son in Hero is not that much younger." Incidentally a similar predicament was faced by Subhash Ghai when he directed the original Hero in 1983. The two roles of the father and son, played in the remake of Tigmanshu Dhulia and Sharad Kelkar, were originally played by Shammi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar who hardly look a decade apart. »

16 April 2014 3:06 AM, PDT

It seems every young actor is doing an accent. While Aditya Roy Kapoor had to work really hard on his Urdu diction in Habib Faisal's Daawat-e-Ishq, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sushant Singh Rajput have been practising their Marathi and Bangla for their respective characters in Vibhu Puri's Mumbaai Fairytale and Dibakar Bannerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy respectively. Ranveer Singh who sported a dead-on Gujarati diction in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela won't find it that easy to sail through the dialogues of Slb's historical Bajirao Mastani. The fastidious filmmaker and his dialogue writer Prakash Kapadia have decided to zeroin on a Marathi tutor for Ranveer to hone his Marathi skills. Says a source close to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, "Ranveer would have to get his language and diction completely right. The director doesn't want a hue and cry over the language being mis-pronounced.
