Fessenden Not Directing "Orphanage" Remake

Producer Larry Fessenden has left the director's chair of the upcoming remake of 2007 Spanish supernatural thriller "The Orphanage" over at reports Arrow in the Head. Fessenden, who has been attached to direct since August, work on the English language remake's script with producer Guillermo del Toro which he calls "a very exciting experience". So what happened? "I got into a casting miasma and that's where the thing is; I think they're gonna do it another way, actually. So I think I'm out of it. Hopefully they'll still use my script, but I'm not sure I'm directing it anymore." If he isn't directing, he admits that there are three other projects he'd like to do but "after you get bitten once, you're just a little more wary."... »

Here's the official UK quad poster for Peter Spierig and Michael Spierig's widely exciting "Daybreakers", which Lionsgate will release her in the States on January 8, 2010. "Shield" Scribe Pens Fourth ""Underworld"

"The Shield" writer John Hlavin will pen the script for a fourth "Underworld" at Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment reports Heat Vision. While Hlavin won't give away details on the storyline, he does confirm it's not a prequel and it should "introduce fresh elements" as the filmmakers don't want to redo the first three films. No director or stars like Kate Beckinsale, Bill Nighy, Michael Sheen or Rhona Mitra have signed to return. Len Wiseman, Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright are producing.... »

Fandango has your first look at the new trailer for the Lionsgate supernatural thriller "Season Of The Witch", opening in theaters on March 19. Directed by Dominic Sena, the film stars Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Stephen Campbell Moore, Robert Sheehan, Claire Foy, Ulrich Thomsen, Stephen Graham and Christopher Lee. The Hollywood Reporter says that Dante Harper (David Fincher's upcoming "Black Hole") has been hired to write the script for "Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters", to be directed by Tommy Wirkola ("Dead Snow") for Gary Sanchez Productions and Paramount. The film picks up the fairy-tale siblings 15 years after their traumatic gingerbread house incident, which provoked them to become witch bounty hunters. Sanchez executives Kevin Messick, Adam McKay, Will Ferrell and Chris Henchy are producing the horror-action comedy.... »

Here's a clip: "I think we need to make it a little more accessible to the movie-going public," he says frankly. "Silent Hill is not a blockbuster game like Resident Evil or the other games out there. It's a connoisseurs' game. It has its own, rabid fan base. They're not cheap, these things. Brian Cox Goes Short For "The Hobbit" ?

Brian Cox is said to be a big contender to play a dwarf in Guillermo del Toro's upcoming film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" says AICN. The story follows Bilbo Baggins as he first encounters Gandalf and is somewhat unwillingly swept off on an adventure to the lonely mountain to rid it of the dragon, Smaug. The dragon is guarding a treasure of enormous value that he had firstly taken from the dwarves who once lived there. A major battle shortly, ensues. The film is scheduled to hit theatres in November 2011.... »

Over the last seven days, "Alice In Wonderland"'s Mad Hatter has put "The Disloyal Subjects of the Mad Hatter" to work on Facebook, asking them to spread the news about three new promo images for the Tim Burton film that he would reveal if each item got a certain amount of "Likes." He has now released all three ! Townsend, Stevenson, Asano Join "Thor" ?

Stuart Townsend ("Queen Of The Damned"),Ray Stevenson (TV's "Rome", "Punisher: War Zone"), and Tadanobu Asano ("Mongol", "Ichi The Killer") have all joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh's "Thor" for Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures says Variety. The trio will play The Warriors Three, a group of Asgardian adventurers who fight alongside the Norse God. Townsend plays Fandral the Dashing, Stevenson is Volstagg the Valiant, and Asano is Hogun the Grim. Strangely not long after the article went up, Variety pulled the article from its website indicating it may have gone up prematurely. So far no official comment from Paramount or the actor's spokespeople on such casting has been issued.... »

Disney Halts Captain Nemo: "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea"

Variety reports that Walt Disney Pictures has halted "Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea". Production was tentatively scheduled to begin in February, but director McG is no longer on board. Disney's next big water-based shoot will likely be "Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", with filming expected to start in May under the direction of Rob Marshall. Johnny Depp is returning as Captain Jack Sparrow. McG will concentrate on other projects that include "Dead Spy Running", a Warner Bros. drama that Stephen Gaghan is writing.... »

Here's the first french "The Wolfman" poster released today. The Joe Johnston's remake starring Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Art Malik, Rob Dixon, Hugo Weaving, Nicholas Day, Michael Cronin, David Schofield, David Sterne, Roger Frost, Clive Russell and Geraldine Chaplin. Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., new pic will be set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence. The Wolf hits theaters February 12, 2010. ... »
