Hobbit Scripting Continues
After all the bumps in the road that The Hobbit has seen already, due most in part to lawsuits, at least we have people at the helm who care about the production. Peter Jackson cares so much that he has no problem announcing that the scripts are taking a bit longer than expected, meaning that production will have to start a few months later than expected.
Script(s) Taking a Bit Longer for The Hobbit
Jackson explained he's hoping to complete the second Hobbit script -- written with Fran Walsh, Phillipa Boyens and director Guillermo del Toro -- by the beginning of next year. Once they have something worth reading, Jackson can then put a budget together for MGM and New Line. »
Summit to Break Apart Breaking Down?
While I was all for Warner Bros. splitting the final Harry Potter installment, as there is way too much going on in that book, I see Summit Entertainment's decision to possibly split the last Twilight installment, Breaking Dawn, as a greedy move; and I think they're going to end up doing it.
Twilight's Breaking Dawn Looking to Split
Let's face it -- the Twilight franchise was the lottery ticket that Summit Entertainment has been looking for, and the fasttracking of the sequels is one of the many indicators that Summit is hoping to cash in quick. Wanting to milk this golden egg for all it's for, Summit Entertainment is questioning whether they should turn this four-parter into five. »
Jason Reitman on Up in the Air
Up in the Air is Jason Reitman.s ode to traveling. Based on the novel by Walter Kim, the film explores the world of corporate travel. Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) is the king, with nearly 10 million airline miles and a system down pat. This is not the film about the grind of traveling. It.s a salute to the joys of it.
Jason Reitman Takes Us Up in the Air
.I never wanted to make Planes, Trains and Automobiles,. Reitman said. .I wanted to make a love letter to travel for the reason that I love traveling. For the same reason I started going to movie theaters when I was a kid, I like being on a plane. It.s like the last refuge for those who like to be alone. It.s a place where I turn the rest of the world off and I have conversations with a stranger, »
Nimrod Antal on Armored
The previews for Armored show all the action with car crashes and explosions. The cast preferred to describe it as a character drama with some action in it. Director Nimrod Antal put it in a different cinematic context.
Nimrod Antal Directs Armored
.One thing that appealed to me is that this isn.t about gangsters,. Antal said. .It.s not about a bunch of bad men doing a bad thing. It is really about a lot of desperate men putting themselves into a situation that became ugly. That is something we haven.t seen for awhile. Of course, there was A Simple Plan and there have been films similar to that, but I think we were able to bring a real toughness and a very heavy vibe to a film about men that are just desperate. You get to know them as a unit, as a very well oiled machine. »
Claire Danes on Me and Orson Welles
Claire Danes plays the leading lady of Hollywood.s biggest legend in Me and Orson Welles. She may never have crossed paths with Welles in Hollywood, but she got to play Sonja Jones in a dramatization of Welles. 1937 production of Julius Caesar on stage. The film shows how an arrogant Welles bullied his performers into shape.
Claire Danes Talks Me and Orson Welles
.I think the movie talks about that, the confusion of that, and even Sonja says, with someone like Orson, you excuse a lot of behavior,. Danes said. .It.s true. When somebody.s ego is in service of really brilliant, innovative work, it.s hard to criticize their failures as a human sometimes..
Putting on Me and Orson Welles was a less stressful process than the one the film itself depicts. .We rehearsed mostly with us and Christian [McKay] and Ric[hard Linkalter], for a few days. Then they rehearsed again, »
My Sister.s Keeper on Blu-Ray
You know I love My Sister.s Cancer and I will relish in the glorious death movie on Blu Ray. I don.t expect it to be a rollicking home theater demo, nor would I want it to be. My Sister.s Keeper is exactly the stark reality I want on Blu Ray.
Blu-Ray: My Sister's Keeper
Scenes show in realistic detail, like you.re looking through a window at a family home, city streets, a hospital, a meadow. The light is harsh, putting a spotlight on the actors portraying these difficult issues. It creates a sort of halo, but not a glow, just a focus on shining on them. »
Fred Plays Lego Rock Band on DS
Since Lego Rock Band doesn.t need any attachments like the Guitar Hero sleeve, I can finally play a music game on my DSi. It.s not the fluid motion of Guitar Hero On Tour, but Lego Rock Band is a solid portable version of the complete band experience.
Console Review: Lego Rock Band
The buttons are not that bad. Two on the left and two on the right make it easy to hold and remember which button is which color. It kind of makes it more like the original Simon game which I.ve always thought the rhythm games were anyway. The toughest adjustment is that you have to press the buttons each time. You can.t just hold, because there.s no strum. Fast strums and chord switches can be a new kind of tough in this format too. It seems forgiving of early taps though. »
A Super Long Avatar Featurette
30 November 2009 12:34 AM, PST
Geeked about Avatar and have ten minutes to spare? Then you're in luck! Giving us something to feast on during Thanksgiving, 20th Century Fox has allowed James Cameron to release an extended featurette that not only shows us a part of his favorite scene in the film, but ten minutes of behind the scenes goodness.
Avatar Featurette is Long
Now, we all have now been told that a lot, and I do mean a lot, of work went into making Avatar possible. Hell, they're still working around the clock on the film as we speak. Besides the work, there was also a pretty coin spent as well. In short, just about everything James Cameron had at his disposal went into making this film. It was tough, we get it. Or do we? »
Matthew McConaughey Getting Animated Over Rooster Tales
30 November 2009 12:26 AM, PST
Matthew McConaughey is finally taking a break from romantic comedies. No, he isn't making a return to dramatic roles just yet, but he is switching things up by working with Fox TV to created the animated series, Rooster Tales.
McConaughey Drawing Rooster Tales
Based on McConaughey's brother, Rooster Tales follows the world of a beer-swilling, redneck sheriff who marries a much younger woman from Mexico. The man soon realizes, however, that he's gained not only a wife but an entire clan -- 114 members and counting. »
The Twilight Saga: New Moon Takes a Bite Out of Thanksgiving
30 November 2009 12:18 AM, PST
While we here in the States enjoyed Turkey, Turducken or some other feast over the weekend, Summit Entertainment just laid back and watch their earnings grow on The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Entering its second frame, the sequel grossed an estimated $66 million over the five-day holiday.
Thanksgiving Box Office Report
Of the $66 million, $42.5 million came from the weekend. The female-fueled franchise saw a steep decline of 70% in its second frame, which is actually not too shabby considering how well the film did on its opening bow. Taking the holiday into account and ticket sales overseas, the film has so far earned a whopping $474.7 million worldwide; already eclipsing numbers posted by Twilight during its entire theatrical run. »
