Weekend Box Office: Deadpool Slaughters February Record, Zoolander 2 Trips On Runway

Nothing gets America's pop culture in a romantic mood like a rated-r movie full of nudity, violence and gratuitous, well, anything. Fifty Shades of Grey proved it with a record breaking Valentines weekend opening last year and Deadpool solidified the notion by shattering that record this year, taking a few others down along the way. With an impressive $135 million opening, Deadpool obliterated the record for biggest ever February opening set by Fifty Shades of Grey's $85 million debut last year. It's also almost double the opening of the previous R-rated comic or graphic novel adaptation record holder, 300 and its $70 million kick off in 2007. Clearly fans of Deadpool were delighted to see it arrive in theaters, but the question now is how well can it hold up? There's little competition arriving next weekend and if buzz about the movie's success can keep it afloat it might stand a chance of pushing »

The New Spawn Film's Script Has Been Written

Comic book adaptations are getting braver, there's simply no denying it. As audiences become more familiar with the genre, studios have started to get bolder and less conventional with the content that they produce. No longer are we stuck with just Batman, Spider-Man, and Superman; characters on the fringe have long waited for their chance to shine, and now it seems that they will get their moment in the spotlight. One such character that has faded into obscurity in recent years is Spawn, but now it looks like the demonic anti-hero has just taken a major step forward towards his next on-screen outing.   According to ComicBook.com, Screenwriter Todd McFarlane revealed that he has officially finished writing the script for the upcoming Spawn film: I've finished the script, and I'm in the process of editing. It's 183 pages, and [producers] usually like 120. I still think it's going to end up being »

Deadpool Continues To Smash Box Office Records, Surpasses Weekend Estimates

No one saw this coming. They knew Deadpool would prove itself as a success, but absolutely no one saw it becoming such a behemoth. The film hit theaters on Friday, and has absolutely decimated the competition at the box office. Beyond merely performing better than expected, the anti-hero origin/love/revenge tale has gone on to shatter some fairly longstanding box office records. According to reports from Box Office Mojo, Deadpool has raked in over $135 million at the box office for its opening weekend, and is projected to have made $160 million by the end of the holiday weekend. It’s become one of the highest grossing R-rated movies of all times, and one of the most successful non-summer comic book releases ever. Between international and domestic box offices, the film currently looks to debut to $260 million when all is said and done; that’s over $200 more than the »

Possible Green Lantern In Batman V Superman Revealed

Slowly but surely Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has become less about the imminent smack down between Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight and Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, and more about the early formation of DC’s Justice League. We know that Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller’s Flash, and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg will appear in the film in some form or another. However, what about the final piece of the puzzle: Green Lantern? The green clad space cop has remained noticeably absent from the spotlight as the film gets closer and closer to its slated release date, but new reports indicate that actor Dan Amboyer may in fact harness the power of will during the events of Zack Snyder’s upcoming film.   Speaking with Popsugar about his involvement in Batman V »

Ghostbusters Trailer Teaser Gives Us A Peek At Potential Mayhem

Who you gonna call? That one brief question has become iconic in the world of movies, and one of the many lines that catapulted Ghostbusters to legendary status among moviegoers back in 1984. Although Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and the rest won’t return for the upcoming reboot of the classic comedy, the question still stands: when there’s something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? A new teaser trailer for Paul Feig's Ghostbusters reboot has just hit the web and gives us a fleeting glimpse of the answer. Check it out below. Like so many other reboots and remakes, the teaser, as short as it is, takes on a much darker, more sinister tone than the original Ghostbusters films. Without showing any member of the titular team or the specters they do battle with, the teaser emphasizes that something terrifying has come to the »

The Force Awakens Apparently Syncs Perfectly With Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon

13 February 2016 12:42 PM, PST

Pink Floyd’s album Dark Side Of The Moon is arguably one of the best rock albums of all time. In addition to the transformative and alternative nature of the album itself, Dark Side is also known for having a strange connection to the world of film. It was discovered decades ago that playing the album whilst watching The Wizard of Oz would result in 40 minutes of perfectly synced and eerily appropriate coincidence. Well, it appears that this is also the case for the latest film in the Star Wars saga.  A reddit user called knnl somehow got his hands on a home copy of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and noticed a ton of crazy coincidences when experimenting with playing Dark Side Of The Moon. You apparently have to start the album after the famous Star Wars crawl, where the First Order’s shuttles fly over »

13 February 2016 10:14 AM, PST

Remember when Fox completely fucked up the character of Wade Wilson a.k.a Deadpool almost a decade ago? No? New Ninja Turtles Trailer Shows A Funnier Tone

13 February 2016 9:44 AM, PST

Y’all got jokes, huh? With that one line we now know exactly what we're in for; if there’s one thing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have become known for over the years, it’s their ability to crack a great joke while battling evil. Sadly, some of their more recent movies have disregarded that idea in favor of framing them as somber heroes stricken by their feelings as outsiders. Luckily for all of us longtime fans of the adolescent reptiles, all evidence points to the notion that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows aims to bring the team of superheroes back to their comedic roots. Check out the latest trailer for the film and prepare to chuckle. Set to the music of The Beastie Boys "No Sleep Till Brooklyn," the trailer follows the Ninja Turtles as New York City »

Watch Deadpool Hilariously Save A Cat In A Tree

13 February 2016 8:36 AM, PST

The Merc with the Mouth is undoubtedly super, but always seems to deny any and all assertions of his status as a hero. Based upon everything we have seen Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) do lately we have to wholeheartedly disagree. He’s the absurdly violent, vulgar, and all-around badass hero we didn’t even know we needed. No job seems too small for psychotic pop culture enthusiast Wade Wilson; even with the release of Deadpool this weekend he still finds time to help save cats rescued in trees. Check out the video below to get a better sense of what I mean. Opening on a young woman who has lost her cat up a tree, the video shows Deadpool – who must have just been strolling along the sidewalk – deciding to offer up his assistance. Despite his earnest disdain for felines (somthing heavily alluded to in the film), »

New Batman V Superman Image Shows A Dark Side Of Superman

13 February 2016 7:53 AM, PST

Beyond their war of batarangs, kicks, and general fisticuffs, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) will soon go to war over ideology. The long-awaited Man of Steel follow-up Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will mark the first ever meeting of the two DC titans on the silver screen, and they aren’t exactly going to get along at first. A new image has just hit the web that seemingly sides with Batman’s notion that Superman cannot be trusted. Check it out below. False God? #BatmanvSuperman pic.twitter.com/XJjnuXL5FU — Batman v Superman (@BatmanvSuperman) February 13, 2016 As you can see from the photo – which was posted to the official Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Twitter account – the image showcases the Superman statue we’ve consistently seen since the first teaser for the film came out less than a year ago. Batman V Superman: Why DC's Movie Universe May Be In Trouble

12 February 2016 5:21 PM, PST

If you needed any proof of how excited people are for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the response to the final trailer that dropped the other day should drive that point home. People got rather psyched, and with good reason.that early sequence where Bats thrashes all those dudes in the warehouse is awesome. It.s likely going to make a ton of money, but according to a new rumor, things might not be all sunshine and lollipops behind the scenes for DC and Warner Bros., and there might be some big changes to DC.s cinematic slate in store. This is, of course, unsubstantiated rumor from unnamed sources, and you should treat it as such, but it.s an interesting proposition to consider. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is a mouthful of a title, is intended to be the jumping off point for the DC Extended »

Deadpool's Best Easter Eggs And Pop Culture References

12 February 2016 4:47 PM, PST

We knew we were in for a very different superhero movie when Deadpool finally made it to the big screen. We knew it would be violent and vulgar and that Deadpool would break the fourth wall, but the first solo movie from the Merc with the Mouth doesn.t just break the fourth wall, it beats the fourth wall to death in a back alley and steals its wallet. Deadpool makes more pop culture references than we could count, but we did our best and made a list of every easter egg, in-joke, and reference that the movie dishes out. They came so fast that we may have missed a few, and if we listed every last one we.ll be here all week, but we broke them down into their basic categories and we.ll touch on our favorites. How Jesse Eisenberg Changed Lex Luthor For Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

12 February 2016 2:49 PM, PST

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s that this isn’t the old school version. Over the past year, Eisenberg has said how his Luthor is not cartoonish, but instead feels more like a real person, thus being much different than the previous cinematic versions. Now Eisenberg has gone into more detail about Luthor’s motivations in the March blockbuster and the character’s twisted moral outlook. While reaffirming how this Lex Luthor is a more modern version of the character, Jesse Eisenberg explained to Playboy that the young businessman’s main worry in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is having someone flying around with so much power at his dispoal. As Eisenberg put it: The character is in line with what audiences want to »

8 Long-Delayed Sequels We Are Dying To See

12 February 2016 2:45 PM, PST

Waiting for you at the theater this weekend is Zoolander 2, which finally hits screens after a 15-year layoff. While early reviews of this latest adventure of really, really, ridiculously good-looking people haven.t been particularly kind, but it.s not the only long-gestating sequel that is coming down the pipeline, not by a long shot. Long delays between sequels are nothing new, and while sometimes they don.t work out, other times they do. There were quite a few last year that lived up to their predecessors, especially the likes of Mad Max: Fury Road and Creed, and we.d much rather filmmakers take the time to get things right rather than simply serve us a half-baked follow up. Considering that, here are some upcoming sequels that have been on the way for years and years that we have high hopes for. There are, of course, tons more of »

Melissa McCarthy's The Boss Red-Band Trailer Is Foul-Mouthed And Nsfw

12 February 2016 2:30 PM, PST

Melissa McCarthy’s 2016 is not just all about the Ghostbusters reboot. Sure, that’s going to take up a big part of her summer, but she’s also got the release of The Boss to deal with. In fact, as The Boss’ co-writer and star, she probably has a more vested interest in the comedy. Good thing it looks downright hilarious then, with the below red-band trailer proving once and for all that Melissa McCarthy is the current queen of foul-mouthed comedy. There’s an awful lot to appreciate about The Boss’ profanity-filled, R-rated trailer. First and foremost is that Michelle Darnell looks as though she’s the sort of character that Melissa McCarthy knows how to play perfectly for laughs. Not only is she arrogant and rude, but she’s also driven, has a point to prove, and possesses an acidic »

Transformers 6 Plans To Try Something Totally Different

12 February 2016 1:51 PM, PST

The Transformers franchise needs a shakeup. And by most accounts, that’s what’s happening. We’ve covered the Writers Room mentality employed by Paramount to try and inject creativity into the stagnant series, which has in turn led to the announcement of the next three Transformers movies. But they might not be a standalone trilogy, as you’d automatically assume. We hear Transformers 6 might be very different. Following Transformers: Age of Extinction, the Transformers films appeared to be in limbo. The movie made a fortune (as these movies tend to do), but the story laid out in Extinction didn’t really hook anyone. We know that Michael Bay is coming back to direct Transformers 5, but the sixth movie in the franchise, according to Hasbro (via MovieWeb) is going to be a spinoff movie focused on Bumblebee. In a release issued during the annual Hasbro »
