Powell scores ‘Rio’ with Mendes and will.i.am

Following his collaboration with metal band Mastodon on Jonah Hex, John Powell will work with latin legend Sérgio Mendes (”Mas que nada”) and rap star will.i.am on the music for Rio, the upcoming animated comedy from 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios. Film composers write music for the Pope

Film composers Simon Boswell and Stefano Mainetti have both been involved in an unusual and currently much talked-about project where new (non-film) music has been written for an album called “Alma Mater: Music from the Vatican.” The album features the voice of Pope Benedict XVI as well as the Choir of the Philharmonic Academy of Rome conducted by Pablo Colino and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. BBC’s ‘Emma’ score album available soon

The original music from BBC’s recent adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma, starring Romola Garai, will be released on CD and iTunes by MovieScore Media on December 1. The orchestral score is composed by British talent Samuel Sim, an up and coming composer whose other credits include the 2007 feature Awake and TV series Dunkirk, Colonial House and House of Saddam. Varèse to release new Dario Marianelli score

Academy Award-winning composer Dario Marianelli’s latest score, for the Robert de Niro comedy Everybody’s Fine, will be released on CD by Varèse Sarabande on December 22. The film, which is directed by Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee), tells the story about a widower who embarks on a road trip to reunite with his children. ‘Avatar’ score album details announced

Atlantic Records have launched an official web site devoted to the upcoming Avatar score album featuring the original music composed and conducted by James Horner for the much anticipated James Cameron sci-fi movie. The album is coming out on December 15, just before the film’s premiere on December 18.
