Equalizer Has a Villain Plus Last Love, God's Pocket News

The Hollywood Reporter says Marton Csokas has landed the role of the bad guy in the new The Equalizer film set to star Denzel Washington. Director Antoine Fuqua's reuniting with his Training Day star on the project based on the 1980s TV series and set up at Sony. Chloe Grace Moretz is also committed to The Equalizer which should start shooting in the next couple of months.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Sequel is Moving Forward

Michelle Yeoh will be back as Yu Shu Lien in the upcoming sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon set to begin filming in March 2014. Donnie Yen will star in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II - The Green Destiny (couldn't they come up with a shorter title?) and Yuen Wo Ping will be directing the action film that's set up at The Weinstein Company.

Could Gerard Butler Get The Raven Off the Ground?

It appears that Gerard Butler, hot off the box office success of Olympus Has Fallen, might be taking on the starring role in The Raven. Set up at Universal, the project's been kicking around since 2010 and at one point had The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth attached to star. Now with Butler circling the role and Gold Circle on board to help finance the film, production is actually edging closer to being a reality.

Angry Birds Captured by Sony Pictures

Angry Birds addicts - and we know there are millions of you - will be able to see all the familiar characters from the popular game on the big screen in a 3D animated film, and Sony Pictures has snagged the distribution rights to the project after a battle among studios. The company behind Angry Birds (Rovio Entertainment) is currently developing the movie, with Sony targeting a July 1, 2016.

Billy Crystal, Frank Oz Take on Winter's Discontent

Billy Crystal will star in and Frank Oz will direct Winter's Discontent, a comedy movie set up at Atlas Entertainment and Sierra Pictures. The script by Paul Fruchbom made the 2008 Black List of the best un-produced screenplays and is described as the story of a man whose wife of 50 years dies and then "the faithful but sexually frustrated widower moves into a retirement community to start living the swinging single life."

The Quiet Ones Picked Up by Lionsgate

Writer/director John Pogue's supernatural thriller The Quiet Ones has been snagged by Lionsgate for theatrical release on April 25, 2014. The film stars Jared Harris and Sam Claflin and was produced by Tobin Armbrust, Simon Oakes, James Gay-Rees, Steven Chester Prince, and Ben Holden. Claflin, as all you Hunger Games fans will recall, will be seen in Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire playing Finnick Odair. His other credits include Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Snow White and the Huntsman.

Angelina Jolie Underwent a Double Mastectomy

In an op-ed piece for the New York Times, Angelina Jolie announced that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after being told she has a gene (BRCA1) which indicates she has an 87% chance of getting breast cancer. Not all women would have chosen this path, however Jolie wanted to take whatever steps she could to lessen her chances of suffering from the disease.

Box Office Report: The Great Gatsby Has a Wild Time in Theaters

The Great Gatsby opened in theaters to huge numbers, although not big enough to knock Iron Man 3 out of the top spot. Still, Warner Bros has to be celebrating these opening weekend numbers as many box office predictions had the film either stalling after its first day in theaters or just flat-out tanking. Neither prediction materialized as adults - in particular, females - turned out in better than expected numbers to take in Baz Luhrmann's colorful take on the classic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. It didn't hurt that The Great Gatsby is the only real wide release out there aimed at drawing in women, which should also help it stay in the top three next weekend when Star Trek Into Darkness opens in theaters.

And Baz Luhrmann set a personal box office best with the release of The Great Gatsby and should surpass Moulin Rouge!'s entire theatrical »
