Locke & Key Adaptation Gets a Writer

Dear Video Gods, can it be? Is the feature adaptation of the Joe Hill comic series Locke & Key actually getting moving? After about a year of silence the buzz begins again as a writer has been found to pen the project! Miracles do happen!

THR reports that Albert Torres has been tapped to write Locke & Key, Universal’s adaptation of the award-winning supernatural comic book series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Bobby Cohen are to produce, as is Ted Adams, the CEO and publisher of Idw Publishing, the company behind the comic.

Locke & Key tells of three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine. They soon discover the house has magical keys that give the bearers a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know (but they soon will) that a devious demon also wants the keys. »

Guillermo del Toro Talks PG-13 Rated At The Mountains of Madness

Know what's crazy? We can see Romero-level zombie violence on TV nowadays; yet, filmmakers like the great Guillermo del Toro still have to jump through hoops if they want to make a movie that's rated R.

Recently Del Toro talked about possibly doing his passion project, At The Mountains of Madness PG-13 to get a wider release. Today he elaborated.

"The way I’m thinking is, PG-13 goes a long way," Del Toro tells Collider. "It’s not that the novel is graphic, but people forget that there are crucial elements in the novel that are pretty horrific. Like the human autopsy, you know? I think that’s a dark moment. So what I would like to do is shoot it, as dark as it is, in an unrated cut and a PG-13 cut. Ideally they would be released simultaneously if that’s at all possible. We could release one »

Constantine Looking for a New Leading Lady; Lucy Griffiths Out

Some interesting news has hit the wire pertaining to NBC's upcoming "Constantine." THR is reporting that female lead Lucy Griffiths ("True Blood") who played Liv, Constantine's partner in crime, will be written out and replaced by another character from the source material.

Griffiths (pictured) has exited the network's adaptation of Hellblazer after the show's creators opted to move in a different direction. Griffiths played Liv, the female lead and an offbeat woman who finds herself teamed with Constantine after she is marked for death by a powerful demon.

With the ability to see the supernatural world among us, she becomes a key player in the battle between good and evil.

NBC will not recast the role but instead add the character of Zed, a familiar name from the Constantine books. That character, a foil for the show's title character who becomes his right-hand woman, has not yet been cast. »

The Evil Within to Be Censored in Japan

Survival horror master Shinji Mikami’s upcoming game The Evil Within will be censored in Japan. This was done in an effort to lessen the game’s Cero Z (18 and up) rating to a Cero D (17 and up) rating to ultimately improve sales and marketing.

To counteract this, gamers in Japan will have access to the Gore Mode Dlc, which will have all of the original violent glory intact. Those who pre-order The Evil Within will have the Dlc included for free, but those who do not pre-order will have to pay for the upgrade.

Tetsu Takahashi, general manager of Zenimax Asia, told Famitsu (translated by Siliconera ), "The Evil Within being rated Cero D won’t have an effect on the game itself."

However, this remains to be seen. To a community that has turned the expression the gore, the merrier into a cliché, Disneyfying the game could hurt sales. »

Rumors Suggest Gremlins Reboot Is Moving Forward; Chris Columbus Producing

On tap for you today is a brand new batch of Gremlins reboot news, which we must warn you in advance is all merely rumor, at least at this point in time. That being established, read on for the latest!

Per The Tracking Board, original Gremlins writer Chris Columbus has apparently come on board to produce the reboot for Warner Bros. with Steven Spielberg also involved in some production capacity.

"It’s impossible to recreate in a CGI environment," Columbus remarked about the project a few years back, a sentiment that has us hoping he is indeed on board. "I think it will inevitably lose some of its charm.”

Adding to the rumors, /Film reports that the movie will be more of a sequel than a remake of the original Gremlins, this according to their sources.

Again, this is all rumor at the moment so take it with a grain of salt. »
