American Horror Story: Stevie Nicks Returning to the Coven; Jessica Lange Talks Leaving After Season 4

23 November 2013 1:06 PM, PST

This past Thursday we posted several teases of what's upcoming in "American Horror Story: Coven," including the possible return of Stevie Nicks. We now have more about that along with some comments from Jessica Lange regarding her inevitable departure from the series.

Exec producer Ryan Murphy confirmed via Twitter that Nicks will indeed be back for a second appearance during "Ahs: Coven's" final episodes. See his tweet below.

As for Lange, she reiterated to EW that next year’s fourth season will indeed be her last. “It ends up being a lot of time during the year being committed to something,” she explained. “I haven’t done that for a long time. It’s like doing a stage play between the rehearsal and the run. This is a 6-month commitment every year. That will be four years in a row. I want to have more time to myself I guess. »

B-Sides: That Time Christopher Lee Sang about Booze

23 November 2013 10:00 AM, PST

You’ve seen him play Dracula and Sherlock Holmes, Sith lords and dark wizards, but have you ever heard Christopher Lee sing... about booze? And doing so in an effort to corrupt an alcoholic superhero into falling off the wagon? While surrounded by sexy back-up dancers and a goblin?

If you can answer yes to all of the above, then you’ve obviously see the 1983 Australian superhero musical comedy The Return of Captain Invincible.

From Philippe Mora, the director of Howling III: The Marsupials, The Beast Within, and Communion, and Steven E. de Souza, the writer of 48 Hours, The Running Man, and Die Hard (who co-wrote with Andrew Gaty), comes a musical comedy starring Alan Arkin as a bumbling alcoholic superhero (you thought Hancock did it first?) lured out of drunken retirement to save the world when his old nemesis Mr. Midnight (Lee) steals a military superweapon.

Help Fund Don't Look in the Basement: Part 2

22 November 2013 1:56 PM, PST

In 1973, S.F. Brownrigg directed a low-budget horror flick called Don't Look in the Basement, which oftentimes hit theaters alongside Last House on the Left, on a double-bill. Now 40 years later, Browrigg's son Anthony is intent on continuing the story, and he needs your help to do so.

The script for Don't Look in the Basement: Part 2 has been completed, and Anthony Browrigg has taken to Indiegogo to raise the funds needed to cover shooting expenses, which include blood and makeup effects. Brownrigg says he's already got $5,000 to work with, and only needs another $30,000 before the cameras can start rolling.

The film will pick up after the events of Don't Look in the Basement, following the character of Sam around 40 years after he and his fellow asylum inmates ran amok. Sam is moved to a new asylum, where strange things begin happening once more.

Are Portions of Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla Going to Be Set in 1954?

22 November 2013 1:37 PM, PST

Godzilla this, Godzilla that. While I don’t consider myself the biggest fan of the radiation-spewing kaiju (I do love the old school Nes game, though), the constant teasing of Godzilla in Gareth Edwards’ forthcoming 2014 adaptation has me beyond intrigued.

The other day the cover of a tie-in book called “Godzilla: With Light and Sound,” was released, with many movie sites speculating as to whether or not it was the final design of the iconic creature we will see in 2014. Today, however, it was learned that via an interview with cinematographer Seamus McGarvey on Pushing Pixels that portions of the upcoming film will be set in 1954.

"Pp: Shooting on film had all the imperfections of the analog medium, from the lens distortion to all the mechanical parts to the grain of the film itself, while capturing on digital sensors is much more exact and, to a certain degree, lifelessly perfect. »

Norman Reedus Involved in the Crow Reboot?

22 November 2013 1:09 PM, PST

We don't know much about Relativity's upcoming Crow reboot, a project that has already been plagued by legal issues and negative screenplay reactions. All we know for sure is that Luke Evans will take flight as the titular vengeance-seeker, and director F. Javier Gutierrez is looking to stay very faithful to the original comics.

All sounds good to me so far, and this latest rumor sounds even better.

According to the website Schmoes Know, "Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus is being eyed to play a character named James. According to their sources, he is the top choice to play the character, though we have no way of knowing just who this James fellow is. Perhaps one of the bad guys that Draven goes after? Now that I'd like to see!

This is of course only a rumor at this point, so take it with a grain of salt. The site »

Fan Attempts to Re-write the Final Season of Dexter, Fails

22 November 2013 12:17 PM, PST

Dread regulars know that I'm one of the few who absolutely loved the finale of "Dexter." I'll make no concessions about the final season being rather lackluster, but the show ended its run in a way that was both poetic and fitting for the titular character. Regardless, here's a fan-made proposition for the final season.

This wannabe Red Letter Media video offers some interesting ideas, but it's a far too high-level overview for us to say whether or not it would've worked any better. After all, if you put the concepts behind season 8 on paper (a jilted serial killer gets fixated on Dexter because he has all the things missing from his life), you've got some good stuff as well. The problem is making it interesting on a week-to-week basis, which is where the final season really dropped the ball (well, that and having Deb forgive Dexter completely at the »
