So, how long is James Cameron's 'Avatar'?

James Cameron's sci-fi epic "Avatar" will open in theaters and IMAX everywhere Dec. 18, 2009, but until now, on one really knew the film's final running time. Now the answer is here: 150 minutes.

Twentieth Century Fox's Bruce Snyder told the Hollywood Reporter the movie would run 2.5 hours. With all credits added, it may even run for a total of 156 minutes, but definitely not longer.

The reason why "Avatar" won't run any longer is the inability of some IMAX theaters to play a movie longer than 170 minutes. "Avatar" will play in 3D at around 2,500 locations (180 IMAX) and 2D at 1,500 locations. »

'New Moon' scores astonishing $72M Friday

It's done! "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" just beat the opening day gross of "The Dark Knight." Wait, what? No, this is not a mistake; "New Moon" did indeed score an amazing $72.7 million Friday.

The Chris Weitz-directed sequel to "Twilight" already pulled $26.2 million from midnight screenings yesterday. Now playing in 4,024 theaters, it raced past the $67.1 million opening day gross of "Knight."

"New Moon" is now easily on track to beat $100 million this weekend, but I'm not quite sure it will manage to top the $158 million "The Dark Knight" brought in during the first three days. We'll see what happens. »

Movie Review: “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”

Seen on: November 20, 2009

The players: Director: Chris Weitz, Writer: Melissa Rosenberg, Cast: Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Michael Sheen, Dakota Fanning

Facts of interest: To be honest, I can't think of any.

The plot: Bella is devastated when Edward leaves her.

Our thoughts: Bella, Edward and Jacob are back in action in Chris Weitz’s anticipated sequel “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” but sadly enough, they’re all still as boring as in the first film. Okay, “Moon” is a slight improvement on “Twilight,” but as far as I’m concerned, it’s still as cheesy and lifeless. In fact, it’s quite a boring ride, actually. »

20 November 2009 11:38 AM, PST

The vampires and wolves defeated the young wizard at the North American box office Thursday night, as "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" bagged a solid $26.27 million from midnight screenings yesterday.

Indeed, "New Moon" beat the record set by "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," which brought in $22.2 million from midnight screenings. That's quite an impressive start for the "Twilight" sequel.

Additionally, "New Moon" should easily blow up the box office this weekend, as the Chris Weitz-directed film is now playing in 4,024 theaters, according to the Hollywood Reporter. »

'Twilight Saga: New Moon' - What did you think?

20 November 2009 10:29 AM, PST

First of all, here is the reaction I experienced from a sold-out crowd at a midnight showing yesterday of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," when the Summit logo showed up: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Good job Summit, you've got millions of Twilighters on your side. Anyway, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are back in the sequel to "Twilight," and I want to know what you all thought...

I personally didn't enjoy the film, even though I laughed a lot. How about you guys? Did you love it? Hate it? Please leave all your comments and thoughts below, and as usual, don't curse too much. »

Movie Review: “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans”

19 November 2009 8:08 PM, PST

Seen on: November 17, 2009

The players: Director: Werner Herzog, Writer: William M. Finkelstein, Cast: Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer, Xzibit

Facts of interest: Won the Christopher D. Smithers Award in Venice.

The plot: The film follows a corrupt New Orleans cop who's addicted to drugs and tries to solve a brutal murder.

Our thoughts: Nicolas Cage is really bad in Werner Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans,” and I’m so glad and relieved he is. It’s great to see him back in total control of an intriguing role after a whole bunch of recent failures, and he’s undoubtedly the main reason this film worked for me so well. In other words, Cage totally delivers the goods. »

Robert Pattinson in 'Remember Me' trailer

19 November 2009 5:25 PM, PST

Robert Pattinson stars in the upcoming Allen Coulter drama "Remember Me," and believe it or not, he's not playing a vampire. A trailer for the family drama has debuted online, and it follows after the jump.

The film was co-written by "Rachel Getting Married" scribe Jenny Lumet, and the trailer looks intense. It also doesn't look that bad, actually. Even Pattinson promises a warmer performance in the lead role.

He plays Tyler, a rebellious young man who has a strained relationship with his father (Pierce Brosnan) ever since tragedy separated their family. One day, he meets Ally (Emilie de Ravin) through a twist of fate. »

Early numbers are in already, and the Hollywood Reporter says the sequel to "Twilight" has scored $1.6 million from midnight screenings in Australia. That's better than what "Star Wars: Episode III" bagged in '05.

Moving on, "New Moon" picked up $4.26 million in France on opening day, compared to $1.1 million earned by "Twilight." Wow! In Italy, it generated $2.7 million, and in Spain, it grabbed $2.2 million. »

Eric Dane joins 'Burlesque' musical

18 November 2009 9:07 PM, PST

I thought they were done casting Steve Antin's upcoming musical "Burlesque," but I guess I was wrong. The latest to join the party is Eric Dane, the Dr. Mark Sloan dude from "Grey's Anatomy."

Is that a bad thing? You tell me, because I never really watched that show. Anyway, Dane joins a cast including Christina Aguilera, Cher, Kristen Bell, Cam Gigandet, Alan Cumming and Stanley Tucci.

Aguilera plays a small-town girl who finds love and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club. The Hollywood Reporter says Dane plays a businessman planning to buy the club. He also falls for Aguilera. »

16 November 2009 3:36 PM, PST

A new international "Avatar" featurette has debuted online, and you can check it out after the jump. This one takes some time introducing the central story line, as well as the numerous themes of the film.
