Straight Outta Compton Movie Review

Title: Straight Outta Compton Director: F. Gary Gray Writer: Jonathan Herman and Andrea Berlof Cast: O’Shea Jackson, Jr., Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Paul Giamatti, Aldis Hodge, and, Neil Brown, Jr. In theaters August 14, 2015 As a general rule, I’m not a fan of the biopic movie genre, which is riddled with cliches and tropes. Protagonists don’t seem to have decisions and choices in biopics because they’re always working on the idea of destiny. They are no longer normal people, but rather agents of success and admiration. Of course, this is just a general rule and there are biopics that have come to surprise me with its level of craft,  [ Read More ]

Johnny Depp is Terrifying in New Black Mass Trailer

30 July 2015 11:44 AM, PDT

Fans of Johnny Depp have had it rough for the past couple of years. The most we’ve seen the actor in is pirate garb or something else equally ridiculous. In “Black Mass,” Depp’s still in a costume, but this time, in “Black Mass,” he in a much more dramatic (and scary role) – as James “Whitey” Bulger, the notorious mobster. “Black Mass,” directed Scott Cooper, tells the story of an FBI agent (played by Joel Edgerton) who wants Whitey Bulger to help him take down the Italian mob. However, the alliance gets quickly out of hand. “In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James  [ Read More ]

Seeking guidance and support from a mentor who you have long admired is often a beneficial and critical way for many people to achieve their goals and success in their lives. But when their advice, personality and behavior unexpectedly fails to live up to your expectations, the work they accomplished that you have long admired unfortunately begins to lose its appeal and acclaim. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation Movie Review

29 July 2015 10:09 AM, PDT

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation Starring: Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Sean Harris, Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin Directed by: Christopher McQuarrie On the whole, the Mission: Impossible film series has been pretty good. Brian DePalma’s original was a solid outing, more concerned with being a thriller than a straight up action film. For all its goofiness, John Woo’s Mission: Impossible 2 still features some fun set pieces. J.J. Abrams outing, Mission: Impossible III was a generic adventure, with a fine performance from Philip Seymour Hoffman. Then we have Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, a film where the second half can never quite recapture the pure magic the first hour  [ Read More ]

Watch Political Commentators Become the Best of Enemies in Exclusive TV Spot

28 July 2015 3:30 AM, PDT

Having the ability to quickly indulge your every thought, opinions and desire to a national audience is a luxury many people take advantage of in modern society, particularly through the excessive use of social media and cable networks. Bbeing able to continuously revel in that luxury wasn’t a capability that most people were able to appreciate in the late 1960s, before the launch of the internet and cable television. But that limitation was quickly rebuffed with two distinct political commentators, Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley, who infamously debated that their opposing views on society were catastrophic for America. To showcase those notorious arguments between the political analysts of the  [ Read More ]

27 July 2015 3:30 PM, PDT

A big win for FilmOn’s Alki David came Thursday. Deadline is reporting that a U.S. District Court judge has ruled that major broadcast networks might have to license their programming to David’s online TV streaming service FilmOn after all. This is a major turnaround from what courts have ruled before, usually in favor of the networks when it comes to withholding licensing. According to Judge George Wu’s ruling, the networks’ proposed distinctions between traditional TV networks and online streaming services like FilmOn might not exist. Wu stated that regardless of how strong policy arguments might be concerning supposed differences between FilmOn and traditional cable services, the Copyright Act “simply does  [ Read More ]
