Review: Devoured is a Quiet Thriller That Creeps Up On You

Well, this one certainly is a surprise. Prior to last week, Devoured was unknown to your humble reviewer. Hopefully it manages to find an audience, because for (what appears to be) next to nothing, it overcomes a very deliberate pace and establishes an odd, hard-to-define tension along with some effective jolts.

It also boasts an excellent lead performance. Lourdes (Marta Milans) is a young woman from El Salvador struggling to make money in New York City.

27 August 2014 5:50 PM, PDT

Not too long ago I was tipped off that we would be hearing about the new Underworld film sooner than later. I tweeted this, but couldn't find much weight to it to justify writing a full-on news item about minuscule rumblings.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting tonight, however, that Lakeshore has tapped Cory Goodman to write the new film.

Editorial: On the Cannibalistic Nature of Horror Fandom

27 August 2014 1:23 PM, PDT

Here's how it was in high school. I wasn't exactly the most popular kid, but I wasn't the loner either. As far as clique-status went, I got around (not in that way, pervs) and I had select friends in every group.

But as far as my love for the horror genre was concerned, I was the misfit.

No one understood the appeal of it for me. Cheerleader Annie Thomas, during finals of my sophomore year, saw a copy of Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire" and a copy of Fangoria sitting on my desk and snickered with "That vampire stuff is weird - why do you read that?" (Can you tell I was a total chick magnet then?)
