Review: Asmodexia a Fresh Twist on the Exorcism Genre

Let’s face it. Exorcism movies have been a bit played out in the last few years. When Paranormal Activity made demons scary again almost half a decade ago, a slew of films came along that immediately plugged into the vein of that and mixed The Exorcist with found footage. What we got was a plethora of bargain bin scares like The Rite and some decent titles like The Last Exorcism and Atrocious.

With Asmodexia, writer-director Mark Carreté has crafted an original and unique entry into the exorcism genre without having to turn it into a traditional shaky cam affair.

Review: Inner Demons is an Intervention You Should Skip

When it comes to found footage, the biggest challenge is coming up for a reason to be shot that way. This leads to the “guy who films everything” scenario or the “camera crew” scenario”, both of which are less than convincing. The new film Inner Demons attempts to bring something new to the table by taking place during a Reality-style Intervention show. Is it successful? That is going to depend on you.

Catholic school good girl Carson (Lara Vosburgh) is not quite the girl she used to be. Having gone from an A student to failing heroin addict, as well as becoming the poster child for The Craft remake, her parents are understandably concerned. Not knowing who to turn to, parents Steve (Christopher Parker) and Beth (Colleen McGrann), do what any responsible family would, they turn to reality TV. Exclusive: Bryan Fuller Reflects on Hannibal Season 2 & Looks Ahead to Season 3

With Hannibal's second season making its way to DVD and Blu-ray this week, showrunner Bryan Fuller took some time to talk with Shock and reflect on the blood-drenched, insane story arc.

One of the highlights of season 2, he told us, was seeing how audiences embraced Katharine Isabelle's Margot Verger character. "I was so happy with that," he said. "It was one of those things - as we were integrating it into the mythology of our version of the world - that sort of came out of left field and we built them up. But I was always a little self-conscious when dealing with a character like this from the books - could we have integrated them smoother or done something different?

Review: The Pact 2 is Timid in Comparison to Its Predecessor

15 September 2014 6:19 AM, PDT

When The Pact dropped two years ago, it quietly snuck onto the scene and surprised everyone with how smartly written and genuinely creepy it was. It seems that with losing its connection with writer-director Nicholas McCarthy (who has gone on to direct this year's At the Devil's Door), The Pact 2 pulls some punches and just can’t get the scares that the first one delivered.

The sequel, written and directed by Dallas Richard Hallam and Patrick Horvath (the duo who directed Entrance), tells the story of June and her boyfriend Daniel. Both are involved with law enforcement, Daniel is a beat cop who works nights and June cleans up crime scenes.
