Guillermo del Toro: Bringing Lance Henriksen into The Strain & Creature Design

Did you Lance Henriksen is part of the cast of The Strain? Yes, when the show begins this Sunday night on FX you won't be seeing then veteran genre actor who has starred in films like Aliens, Pumpkinhead and the upcoming Harbinger Down, but you will certainly hear him. Similar to the work he contributed to in the When a Stranger Calls remake and various video games and cartoons, he's lending his recognizable vocal talents to Guillermo del Toro's horror series. The series doesn't even appear on the actor's IMDb page, strangely enough. But he is a participant and I had a chance to ask Del Toro about Henriksen's vocal contributions as "The Master" (the show's big bad).

DJ Caruso, Kate Beckinsale Team for ‘Disappointments Room’

10 July 2014 3:55 PM, PDT

Kate Beckinsale - star of the Underworld franchise - is entering The Disappointments Room, reports Deadline. The film will find her working with director DJ Caruso (Disturbia). According to the outlet, the project is in the vein of The Shining. But here's the thing that excites me: Wentworth Miller penned the script. He wrote Stoker, directed by Park Chan-wook, last year and I thought that was a terrific film. Caruso is no Chan-wook, but still...there's promise in the story.

Anyone out there a fan of this series? It had its ups and downs and I'm still curious as to how they'll continue based on the season one finale.

Recently, I attended a 35mm screening of Burnt Offerings here in Los Angeles. I hear this a lot: "I didn't know about [insert random horror event here]!" Well, hopefully this will remedy that. ‘The Ruins’ Director Returns With ‘Jamie Marks is Dead’ This August

10 July 2014 8:38 AM, PDT

Carter Smith is back on the genre scene with Jamie Marks is Dead, his first feature film since directing the under appreciated nature-run-amok film The Ruins. This effort is decidedly less graphic, and perhaps more personal, than The Ruins. But it's a haunting bit of work with a few well-timed scares. Gravitas Ventures is bringing Jamie Marks is Dead to select theaters and VOD on August 29th, we're learning today.
