Mary Elizabeth Winstead Reconsiders No-nudity Clause

11 June 2012 3:06 PM, PDT

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World star Mary Elizabeth Winstead has relaxed the no-nudity clause in her contract after watching Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine.

The modest actress admits she was fixed on never disrobing for a movie role until she saw Williams' cult movie - and now she states she would be prepared to strip on film if the part called for it.

She tells America's Complex magazine, "Once you get older, you realise those things aren't as important as you thought they were. I have so much respect for many actresses who've done nudity. Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine is one of my favourite performances of the last few years. When I see something like that, I say, 'Ok, I totally understand why she did it.'

"It's still something that I'd be hard-pressed to say yes to. A lot of things would have to fall in line. It would have to be important to the story... But I am more open to it now.

"If it's important for there to be nudity in that case, then I don't feel like it'd be right for me to say no." »

Catherine Zeta-Jones Toned Up With On-set Dancing

11 June 2012 12:01 PM, PDT

Catherine Zeta-Jones is delighted she landed her singing-and-dancing role in Rock Of Ages as the rigorous workouts helped her get back in shape.

The Welsh actress admits she's prone to laziness when it comes to hitting the gym, and she got so fit on the set of the movie musical she re-discovered muscles she'd forgotten about.

The Traffic star tells British magazine S, "I haven't danced for a while... I work out, and I have a ballet barre in my gym. But every time I do it I think, 'Why don't I do this all the time?' I get lazy so working on this film was a bit of a shock to the system. It was like, 'Ok, I remember those Achilles. I remember that thigh muscle.' All those elements come back and it worked out great." »

Guy Pearce's Life Lessons From Wife And Sister

11 June 2012 12:01 PM, PDT

Australian actor Guy Pearce has credited his wife and his sister with keeping him grounded throughout his Hollywood career.

The Memento star has learned invaluable lessons from his partner Kate Mestitz and older sister, Tracy, who suffers from Cornelia de Lange syndrome, a disorder which affects intellectual and physical development.

He tells British publication The Observer Magazine, "I like to think I have empathy. Growing up with a sibling with special needs opened my eyes to things. You think differently when you see how she struggles with the world and the care she needs."

Pearce admits his psychologist wife Mestitz, who he met at school when he was 12 years old, helped him remain humble despite his international success.

He adds, "Having a partner who has nothing to do with Hollywood helps keep things in perspective. Our life is not in any way centred around celebrity, partly because we live in Melbourne and partly because of my reluctance to be involved in it." »

Julianne Hough Almost Rejected Rock Of Ages Role

11 June 2012 12:01 PM, PDT

Actress Julianne Hough was ready to reject a starring role in new movie musical Rock Of Ages until she learned Tom Cruise would be her leading man.

The blonde beauty admits she was turned off by the idea of hitting the big screen in another music-themed movie after parts in Burlesque and 2011's Footloose remake, and instead wanted to test her talents with a straight-up drama.

She tells the New York Daily News, "At first I was like, 'Yeah, I don't think I want to do another musical... Of course, you have to get your foot in the door somehow, so Burlesque and Footloose made sense. But I wanted to expand and grow as an actress."

But she had a change of heart as soon as director Adam Shankman revealed the Mission: Impossible actor had signed up to lead the star-studded cast.

She recalls, "He said, 'You know, Tom Cruise is in it.' And I was like, 'Right - I'll do one more (musical)!'"

Hough will be able to test her drama skills in her next film - she plays a Christian evangelist with burns over two-thirds of her body in screenwriter Diablo Cody's untitled directorial debut. »

Happy Days Cast Members' Merchandise Case Heading To Trial

11 June 2012 12:01 PM, PDT

Cast members from hit sitcom Happy Days are preparing for a court battle in their ongoing fight with TV bosses for a cut of profits from merchandising sales.

Actors Marion Ross, Anson Williams, Don Most and Erin Moran and the widow of Tom Bosley launched a $10 million (£6.3 million) lawsuit against CBS network chiefs last year, accusing them of committing fraud by withholding money from sales of Happy Days-themed memorabilia which features their images.

They were handed cheques ranging from $6,000 (£3,750) to $6,500 (£4,063) as compensation, but the stars vowed to press ahead with their case.

They suffered a setback in October when a Los Angeles Superior Court judge threw out the fraud claim, but the fight continued as a breach of contract case.

Last week (ends08Jun12), a judge ruled the lawsuit could go to trial and set a start date of 17 July - and Most, who portrayed Ralph Malph on the show, is looking forward to his day in court.

During an interview on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Monday, he admitted he was surprised to learn that his former Happy Days co-star Henry Winkler had signed a different contract from the rest of the cast and secured his own financial future with profits from merchandise featuring his character The Fonz.

He said, "I never received anything for all of that merchandise. (Winkler) had separate deals from the five of us. Henry's been being paid for merchandise all this time. Isn't that funny Henry was paid but we weren't? So there's something not right about that."

Another Happy Days star, actor-turned-director Ron Howard, is not part of the legal action. »

He tells British publication The Observer Magazine, "I completely acknowledge that having kids has got to be one of the most incredible things in the world, but it's also really hard work.

"I'm not consistent enough to be a parent - I blow too hot and cold. Kate jokes that we'd end up on the news for throwing a child out of the window." »

Emma Stone Terrified Of Death

11 June 2012 9:06 AM, PDT

Actress Emma Stone has opened up about her fear of dying, insisting she thinks about her mortality on a daily basis.

The Help star admits she has been "hyper-aware" of death since she was a young girl, when she began suffering from terrifying panic attacks.

She tells The Sunday Times Style magazine, "I'm close to my mortality. I think about it every day. Not in a freaky way, but constantly. I feel hyper-aware that everything could end. That's always been in my mind, for whatever reason, since I was very small... I think I tend to worry more when things are good. I know those times will change."

However, Stone insists she has made progress tackling her issues with the help of a therapist.

She adds, "You know, it (anxiety) ebbs and flows. It's nowhere near as bad as when I was a kid... I feel very comfortable talking about it... I was in therapy for two years as a kid. As someone with anxiety, you're constantly waiting for the next (attack). It's how my mind works.

"The reason I went into my job is because it gives you an outlet for all these emotions. My first-grade teacher put me in my first play because I had the jazz hands in me. A year later, I had my first panic attack. I mean, I had really, really bad anxiety as a kid, and improv (improvisation) was kind of my saviour." »

George Lucas Warns Of Indiana Jones Delay

11 June 2012 9:06 AM, PDT

George Lucas fears his retirement plans may be on hold for the foreseeable future, because his final Indiana Jones plot needs approval from both Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford.

The director, who created the archaeologist adventurer franchise, has announced he's bowing out of mainstream Hollywood after he writes a fifth Indiana Jones movie.

However, Lucas may be working for years to come as his last script must meet the demands of the franchise's "superstars" - director Spielberg and Ford, who plays the title role.

Lucas tells British magazine Culture, "I'm working on a script for those guys, but they have to approve it. It took me 14 years to get 'em to do Indiana 4.

"Harrison wanted this and Steven wanted that. In the beginning, it was easy. I said, 'This is the script, we're shooting it, let's go to work.' Now they're all superstars."

Ford last swung into action in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which was released in 2008 - 19 years after its predecessor Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade hit theatres in 1989. »

James Franco Designs Brad Renfro Switchblade

11 June 2012 9:06 AM, PDT

James Franco has designed a limited edition switchblade in memory of Brad Renfro, the late actor who beat him to a lead role in 2002 movie Deuces Wild.

The 127 Hours star created the flick knife as "a metaphor for people that don't have control over their lives" following Renfro's death from an accidental heroin overdose in 2008.

Franco unveiled the $850 (£530) blade on Saturday at New York City's The New Museum, where he also screened his short film Brad Renfro Forever.

In the art-house movie, tattooist Mark Mahoney uses one of the special blades to etch 'Brad' into Franco's flesh, causing him to wince in agony and beg for a break in the middle of the session.

Franco tells the New York Daily News, "I didn't tell him (Mahoney) to hold back at all... I wish he'd gone deeper (because the carving is) pretty light."

Franco was particularly moved by the tragic star's death, telling Playboy magazine last year, "Heath Ledger died a week after Brad, and I feel Brad has been forgotten already. They didn't even mention his death at the Oscars that year." »

Gordon Ramsay Angry About Britain's Prison System

11 June 2012 9:06 AM, PDT

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has taken aim at Britain's jail system, insisting prisoners are given an "easy" life behind bars.

The cook's latest U.K. TV show, Gordon Ramsay Behind Bars, shows the chef setting up a kitchen in London's Brixton prison to teach inmates domestic skills - and the star admits he was stunned at the "comfort" the criminals live in.

He tells Britain's Guardian Weekend magazine, "What I wasn't prepared for was how easy it was for them in there. I was astounded at the comfort zone they carve out for themselves. Five meal choices a night - that was the one I really struggled with. I just thought it was a bit of a joke, to be honest.

"Coupled with 24-hour television, Xbox, DVDs, gym. We can't watch television until four o'clock in the morning. I'd like to have a gym (session) seven days a week, by the way. (I was) angry, yes, clearly - but quite embarrassed, really. I thought we were a nation of grafters (workers); I thought we had the spirit of working harder than anyone."

Speaking about his experience in the prison system, he rants: "From day one, just sat in that f**king waiting room, trying to get in, with no phone, and then being treated like a piece of s**t. Everything was going against me; the system was completely screwed, the governor was treating me like one of his b**ches. And I was banging my head against a brick wall."

The star was also less than impressed with the work ethic of some of the prisoners he encountered, adding, "Why would they want to come and bust their a**e for 10 hours a day when it was easy for them to do nothing? I find that hard to come to terms with." »
