Jolie Has Diamond Pendant Designed For Pitt

25 February 2011 3:21 PM, PST

Angelina Jolie has gifted her partner Brad Pitt with a symbol of her love after hiring a top London jeweller to design a unique diamond pendant for her beau.

The Hollywood actress commissioned Robert Procop to design the piece, which is based on Ancient Egyptian amulets that contained hidden messages and is believed to have cost Jolie a six-figure sum.

And she's had a special message engraved on the pendant for Pitt.

Procop tells DailyMail.co.uk, "The hidden message is lasered on. I can't tell you what it says, and you would need a microscope to read it!"

It's not the first time Jolie has worked with Procop - she teamed up with the designer last year to create her own line of jewellery, The Style of Jolie. »

Roberts Surprises Rudd To Present Honorary Irishman Award

25 February 2011 3:21 PM, PST

Julia Roberts poked fun at her pal Paul Rudd's lack of Irish ancestry on Thursday as she presented the actor with an award from the U.S.-Irish Alliance.

The I Love You, Man star was named as the recipient of the organisation's 2011 Honorary Irishman title and he was feted at the Oscar Wilde: Honoring the Irish in Film event in Los Angeles.

Roberts made a surprise appearance at the prizegiving to pay tribute to Rudd, her co-star in a 2006 Broadway production of Three Days of Rain, and she made the audience chuckle by joking about the actor's heritage.

Pointing out that Rudd was actually born to Jewish immigrants from England, she told the crowd, "This is so crazy, really, Paul Rudd - Paul McRudd - is Jewish, not Irish!

"Maybe I can become Irish. My middle name is Fiona, which is a step closer to being Irish than Paul Rudd was five minutes ago." »

Douglas Defends Zeta-Jones After Paparazzo 'Punch'

25 February 2011 3:21 PM, PST

Michael Douglas became embroiled in a scuffle with paparazzi in London on Thursday after his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones accused one photographer of punching her in the face.

The Hollywood couple had spent the day at royal residence Buckingham Palace, where Zeta-Jones was honoured as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (Cbe) by Charles, Prince of Wales.

The stars were chauffeured back to their hotel in the British capital, but they encountered trouble as they exited their car and had to fight their way through a horde of snappers waiting at the entrance to their residence.

In video footage of the brawl, obtained by U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight, Zeta-Jones can be heard shouting, "How dare you punch me!" at one overzealous paparazzo as they enter the hotel lobby.

She then demands, "I want a police officer right now. He punched me! The guy coming in here, he punched me!"

Douglas leaps to his wife's defence and stares menacingly at the alleged attacker, branding him an "a**hole" before appearing to grab the photographer and push him as hotel security rush to separate the two men.

It is not known whether an official police complaint was filed over the incident, which spoiled a "fabulous" day for the Douglases, according to the Wall Street star's publicist Allen Burry.

Referring to the video, he tells Entertainment Tonight, "You saw it for yourself. Otherwise, the trip and the ceremony were fabulous and such a joy for everyone." »

Idol Drama As Contestant Is Hospitalised

25 February 2011 11:11 AM, PST

The American Idol wannabe who turned show judge Jennifer Lopez into a sobbing wreck after she had to send him home could be returning to the TV talent contest if a sick singer can't make it to Friday's competition.

Hopeful Casey Abrams was hospitalised with severe stomach pains after making it to the last 24 of the contest - and it is not known if he'll be well enough to appear during the taping on Friday.

If not, he'll be replaced - and rejected Chris Medina could find himself back on the stage, because he's one of Lopez's favourites.

The actress/singer had a breakdown while taping a show that aired in the U.S. on Wednesday after she had to send Medina home.

He admits he'd be thrilled to return, but not if it means Abrams has to sit the rest of the contest out: "I would never wish that anybody would be in that position in order for me to get back on the show." »

Blunt Had To Fight For Ballerina Role

25 February 2011 11:11 AM, PST

British actress Emily Blunt had to fight to land her ballerina role in new thriller The Adjustment Bureau - because director George Nolfi wanted to cast a professional dancer.

The Devil Wears Prada star was determined to change Nolfi's mind after falling in love with the script, which is loosely based on author Philip K. Dick's short story, Adjustment Team.

She says, "I read the script and then about six weeks later, I finally got a meeting with George. I would call my agency and they would say, 'No, no, they're only meeting dancers.' He said he wanted a dancer and I said, 'I think you're wrong, I think you should have me!'"

But Blunt admits she struggled to stick to her strict diet and perfect her dance steps as she prepared for the shoot: "I had about eight weeks before the movie started... so I was in the dance studio and in the gym. It's the most demanding thing, physically, I've done." »

Hathaway: 'Oscars Will Be Respectful To Hollywood Stars'

25 February 2011 11:11 AM, PST

Oscars co-host Anne Hathaway has no intention of upsetting her peers at the Academy Awards on Sunday, insisting the big show won't be a repeat of the 2011 Golden Globe Awards.

Comedian Ricky Gervais sparked controversy with his mean-spirited humour at the Globes, and reports suggest he has submitted gags for Hathaway and sidekick James Franco at the Oscars.

But the actress has assured film fans and stars alike she won't be making anyone feel uncomfortable on Sunday night.

She tells The Hollywood Reporter, "If you're looking for someone to call people out, we're not your hosts. I think that humour is really difficult to pull off, and I'm not particularly adept at it.

"I am the youngest host in history, and I have no business being cynical or calling anyone out. I certainly haven't earned the right to do that." »

Sheen Hits Out At Anti-semitism Accusations

25 February 2011 11:11 AM, PST

Charlie Sheen has slammed allegations of anti-Semitism after blasting Two And A Half Men writer Chuck Lorre by his Hebrew name in an angry online missive.

The actor fired off a curt open letter to TMZ.com after TV producers announced they were shutting down production on the hit sitcom for the rest of the season.

In the message, Sheen unleashed his hatred for Lorre, calling him Chaim Levine, the Hebrew translation of the creator's birth name.

The reference prompted some critics to accuse Sheen of using Lorre's Jewish name in a derogatory manner - but the embattled star has hit out at the claims.

He tells TMZ.com, "I was referring to Chuck by his real name, because I wanted to address the man, not the bulls**t TV persona."

And Sheen, whose actor father Martin changed his family name from Estevez for film, is rattled by the anti-Semite allegations because of his own Latin roots.

He adds, "So you're telling me, anytime someone calls me Carlos Estevez, I can claim they are anti-Latino?"

Producers announced there would be no more Two and a Half Men this season after Sheen took to the airwaves on Thursday and launched a vicious radio rant about creator Lorre, attacking the writer for his lack of "gratitude" and branding him "a stupid, stupid little man and a p**sy punk" for suspending filming on Two and a Half Men.

The hiatus was initiated in January to allow Sheen to attend rehab for substance abuse issues. Filming was expected to resume next week (beg28Feb11).

The actor is refusing to take the season cancellation seriously - in a text message to the presenters of U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Friday, he claimed he is "100 per cent clean" and intends to show up for work on the Los Angeles set on Tuesday as previously planned. »

Bosworth's Anxiety Struggle

25 February 2011 8:11 AM, PST

Kate Bosworth used her own real-life experiences with anxiety to help her play a depressed college student in Another Happy Day.

The blonde beauty reveals she has suffered from intense panic attacks, and admits she used her struggles with anxiety to fuel her performance as Sam, a self-mutilating woman, in the dysfunctional family drama.

She tells Nylon magazine, "I'm not someone who is a stranger to panic attacks or anxiety... I've had my fair share of on-the-verge moments in my life, so it was really kind of tapping into my own life experience, and that gets a little weird.

"It's what we live for as actors, to soar to that moment when you sort of leave everything behind. But it's also the scariest because you're getting lost in yourself and touching a nerve that, on a day-to-day basis, you armour.

"Sam wasn't fearful of the dark places, and I think I have a healthy amount of dark places to go to." »

Galliano Suspended After Arrest

25 February 2011 8:11 AM, PST

Bosses at top fashion house Christian Dior have reportedly suspended their head designer John Galliano after he was arrested for allegedly hurling anti-Semitic insults at a couple during a night out in Paris.

The flamboyant designer was drinking at a bar in the Marais district of the French capital on Thursday when he began verbally assaulting two strangers sitting on a cafe terrace, according to reports.

Sheen's Major League Role In Jeopardy

25 February 2011 8:11 AM, PST

A movie boss has ordered Charlie Sheen to "straighten up" - or risk losing his role in the upcoming Major League sequel.

Sheen has frequently hit the headlines in recent weeks as his personal life unravels - he ended up in hospital last month after a wild night of partying with porn stars and pals, before beginning a rehab stint at his Los Angeles home.

The string of scandals continued this week (begs21Feb11) when Sheen publicly criticised Two and a Half Men writer Chuck Lorre, prompting producers to pull the plug on the sitcom for the rest of the season.

Now Sheen has been told he could be excluded from plans for a fourth installment of the Major League franchise if he doesn't clean up his act.

The CEO of Morgan Creek Productions, the studio behind the film, insists he doesn't want to hire Sheen for the project after experiencing a frequently absent Lindsay Lohan on Georgia Rule.

James G. Robinson tells TMZ.com, "I'm not going to risk putting Charlie in the movie if he continues messing up. Obviously with Major League 3 there's a huge part written for Charlie's character... but after dealing with Lindsay Lohan on Georgia Rule, I can speak for someone who has experienced the difficulties of working with an actor dealing with addiction.

"I won't go through that again. If Charlie doesn't straighten up... I unfortunately can't put him in the movie. When Lindsay was doing Georgia Rule, she would miss full days of work. When an actor doesn't show up for work, you can lose half-a-million dollars a day paying the 250 other people there for the shoot and the costs for the set."

In 2006, Lohan was famously chastised by Robinson for her "irresponsible and unprofessional" behaviour on the set of the drama, which he blamed on her "heavy partying" in a stern letter to the star. »
