Prendiamo la Frances McDormand di Fargo, facciamole spuntare due trecce da Pippi Calzelunghe e armiamola, oltre che di pistola, di un’abnorme sete di vendetta. Al pari della sorniona poliziotta immersa nell’inverno del Nord Dakota, Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) ama la propria famiglia e intende agguantare i fuorilegge con le buone o con le cattive. Nella fattispecie, il bruto che le ha ucciso il padre. Siamo nel selvaggio West dell’Arkansas, anni Settanta dell’Ottocento, e lo schermo dei fratelli Coen stavolta tracima “grit”, sia nella forma di sabbia e graniglia, sia in quella, metaforica, del “grande coraggio” e della “grinta” che caratterizza la protagonista del film.
