Sweden has picked “A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence” as its Oscar foreign-language contender for this year. Directed by Roy Andersson, “Pigeon” won a Golden Lion at last year’s Venice Film Festival.
Pernilla Sandström produced the film for Roy Andersson Filmproduktion, while Société Parisienne de Production of France, 4½ of Norway and German company Essential Film Production were the co-producers. The film received production funding from the Swedish Film Institute. International sales is by Coproduction Office.
“Pigeon” premiered Nov. 14 in Sweden, where it was distributed by TriArt.
The Swedish Film Institute will also support “Ingrid Bergman – in Her Own Words” in the Oscar documentary race.
