Ridley Scott's upcoming project The Martian has changed its theatrical release date.

The Martian was originally planned for a March 2016 release, but is now scheduled for November 25, 2015, reports Collider.

Starring Matt Damon, The Martian is a sci-fi adventure about an astronaut stranded on a Mars colony while Nasa attempts to to mount a rescue mission.

It is based on a 2012 self-published book by Andy Weir. It was subsequently purchased by book publisher Crown and re-released in February 2014.

Ridley Scott will direct and produce the movie, which has been adapted by Drew Goddard.

Scott's last feature film was 2013's The Counsellor starring Michael Fassbender, Penelop Cruz, Javier Bardem and Cameron Diaz.

His next movie is titled Exodus: Gods and Kings and stars Christian Bale. It will be released on December 12, 2014 in the Us and on December 26, 2014 in the UK.
