Not to bring any spoilers to the table in its second weekend of release, but Dawn of the Planet of the Apes does feature a proper ending. We know where this series is eventually headed, a spoiler revealed in the 1968 original. Many fans have been speculating that we'll get to the iconic character Colonel George Taylor, personified by the late Charlton Heston , sooner than later. But that may not be the case.

Director Matt Reeves, who is already confirmed to director the untitled Planet of the Apes 3 prequel, says he wants to continue Caesar's story. And the next installment will not feature a major leap ahead.
