“22 Jump Street” star Wyatt Russell has come on board indie buddy comedy “Folk Hero & Funny Guy” opposite Alex Karpovsky (“Girls”) and Liza Oppenheimer.

Melanie Lynskey has also joined the cast in a supporting role.

“Folk Hero” is written and directed by Jeff Grace, who produced and starred in Oscilloscope’s 2013 film “It’s a Disaster,” and follows a struggling stand-up comic (Karpovsky) who goes on tour to open for his successful singer-songwriter friend (Russell).

Grace is producing alongside Ryland Aldrich.

Written in the vein of “Sideways” and “Once,” pic is based on Grace’s own stand-up touring experience with that of real-life inspiration musician Adam Erza, who is also providing an original soundtrack.

Shooting on the indie begins this fall.

Russell, the son of actors Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, is riding strong buzz for his performance in “22 Jump Street,” in which he plays Channing Tatum’s best ‘bro’ Zook. »
