The stars have aligned for “The Fault in Our Stars,” with Friday estimates reaching as high as $50 million for the tear-jerking romance’s opening weekend in the U.S.

The film — starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort — looked likely to hit somewhere in the $20 million to $22 million range on Friday, including an impressive $8.2 million in Thursday night showings. Saturday showings would probably come in around $17 million, followed by around $11 million on Sunday.

The launch for “The Fault in Our Stars” probably won’t match the $54 million that Woodley’s “Divergent” scored in its March 21-23 opening weekend — but the opening still looks to be stellar given the $12 million budget for “Stars.”
