There are no shortage of “quintessential” summer movies, but one of our personal favorites has long been Rob Reiner’s Stand by Me. The tale, adapted from a Stephen King novella, is the sort of timeless coming-of-age adventure story that we can all relate to (even if we never set out to see a dead body). It’s arguably one of the best adaptations of King’s work, thanks in no small part to Reiner’s direction and the excellent performances from cast members Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Jerry O’Connell.
