Bryan Singer will direct Vince Gilligan's 'Battle Creek' at CBS

The last time Bryan Singer worked with David Shore was on the first couple episodes of "House." That worked out pretty well.

CBS is hoping history will repeat itself, as it's hired Singer to direct the first episode of "Battle Creek," a series created by "Breaking Bad's" Vince Gilligan on which Shore is serving as showrunner. Singer will also join Gilligan and Shore as an executive producer.

"Battle Creek" is based on a script Gilligan first wrote in the early 2000s, well before he hit on "Breaking Bad." CBS gave it a straight-to-series order last fall, bringing Shore on board as the day-to-day showrunner.

"Battle Creek" stars Dean Winters ("Law & Order: Svu," "30 Rock") as a detective who works with an FBI agent to fight crime in Battle Creek, Mich., while taking decidedly different approaches to cases. The FBI agent part hasn't been filled yet, but the show has cast "House" alum Kal Penn,
