Many critically acclaimed films and surprise hits over the years have received their start at the Sundance Film Festival, elevating the prominence of the 10-day event. This has led to the acquisition of films at the festival a prestige on its own, as many studios and filmmakers use the positive word of mouth garnered to get the films to distributors and in theatres.
