Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have hinted that their jokes will not be too harsh at the 2014 Golden Globes.

The former Saturday Night Live stars are returning for their second year as hosts of the gala, following on from a critically-acclaimed appearance last year.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Poehler and Fey rejected the assertion that they will be "too mean" during the gala.

"We're not mean. That's not really our thing," Poehler insisted. "When you host a show you have to hopefully be funny at the top and set the tone for a really fun evening.

"When we did do it, it felt like it was pretty organic and there wasn't a lot of stress from the HFPA about what we were going to do."
