After more than two years of development, construction finally got under way this week for Avatar Land at Disney's Animal Kingdom, which will be the largest expansion in the park's history. Avatar producer Jon Landau was on hand for the official groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week, where they used blue Na'vi inspired shovels. We have videos and photos from the event, including an actor in full Na'vi attire, which shows the scale of these Pandora creatures in comparison to humans. Check out the video and photos, then read on for more information.

The theme park is being constructed in cooperation with Jon Landau and James Cameron's company Lightstorm Entertainment, where visitors will be able to experience flying with banshees and exploring the interactive plants that glow at night in Pandora. We reported in October that the park is expected to be completed in the year 2017.
