Coronation Street topped the Sunday (December 22) ratings, according to overnight figures.

An average of 6.56 million viewers watched on ITV, taking over a quarter (27.3%) of the TV share at 7pm. A further 545k (2.3%) tuned in on +1.

The soap narrowly beat BBC One's Countryfile Christmas special, which topped the channel's Sunday schedule with a 25.9% average share between 7pm and 8pm. Some 6.19 million viewers watched as the show's team celebrated a woodland Christmas in Gloucestershire.

The Antiques Roadshow also helped BBC One pull in a sizeable share, as 5.29 million (21.5%) stayed with the channel from 8pm to 9pm.

ITV also fared well with its latest showing of Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince, attracting some 4.49 million viewers and 17.2% of the audience share, while an extra 652k caught the film an hour later on +1 (3%).
